G'day Alan, Being a former caravaner myself, I hear what you are saying. A lot of these old codgers out there have this idea "I gotta get me fuel economy, I gotta do 85 mate". I looked at it this way, if you're pulling a van, the tow vehicle will use what it uses to do it and that's that!! I had a LandCruiser 200 and I'd do a 100km or slightly better and check the camera to make sure there weren't many cars held up behind me (if any). If there was I'd find a place to pull off and let them pass as it used to annoy the shit out of me when I didn't have my van on and I'd get stuck behind these old codgers holding everyone up. The worst offenders were these blasted Victorians coming up to Queensland.

John, another humorous video, well received. I started my journey, relevant to this video, when sixteen years old. I worked, enjoyed my morning tea, often ate lunch and occasionally entertained in the same area . Located, very close by, were the toilets and showers. I was an apprentice Fitter, Turner, Toolmaker and it was called a factory. Similar logic, although somewhat larger than a caravan and without wheels. I own a caravan, primarily used for my hobby of gold prospecting. Unfortunately, even in Victoria, there is little accommodation close to where I dig holes. Therefore, towing my "mobile crapper", is still better than sleeping in a 4x4 or swag. Keep up the humorous barbs, I will treat them as intended, possibly with the contempt they deserve. I smiled at this video........

Dear John. Truly an epic description. One little thing missing in your description. The two types of effluent carriages. Some have black water tanks and are easily emptied, but others have the Euro style cassettes. I've watched many a tired caravaner remove the cassette full of effluent and wheel it surreptitiously to a dump point and then let the golden treacle and nuggets of gold drift off to some treatment facility. I'm like you, I do not see the attraction of this lifestyle. When one drops a poopie you don't want to come in contact with it again. My new neighbour on our adjoining acreages was telling me he'd gone back to work so he could build a new shed and install a hoist, plus buy a caravan. I have to admire the elegance you have worked so hard to incorporate into this vlog. Such descriptions of caravanning are a joy to my ears. Having spent the last 4 summers in our 'hovel on wheels' I can tell you that it's not all piss-ups and' crapping in your living room'. some of us are more delicate in our constitution than to subject our families to such gross pastimes. We actually engage in meandering through the countryside and breathing the fresh clean air that we savour, away from the smells of car exhausts and piles of discarded tyres along the high streets. Oh Damn! that brings back the 'Mogadishu' issue again. I do have a towcar that is capable of dragging my Garden Shed on wheels at a reasonable speed up hills as well as downhills, while travelling at the maximum I am allowed to regardless of the inclines in the road. We all have speed limits, but what gets my goat, is the excessively large haulage trucks that tootle along at their permitted maximum speed and block even our modest loads from overtaking them. And the size of them doesn't allow you see past them if the road ahead is clear or not. See we all have our limitations and our desire for others to get out of our way and let us do what we like (within the law)to do. It's all about Freedom, Brother, It's what makes us the people we are, diverse and unorthodox maybe, but above all human. Now I've stopped laughing at your vlog, and you can carry on. I enjoyed the rhetoric and humour regardless of your denigration of caravans. It's like Vegimite, you love em or hate em. the choice is yours my friend. 😛

But dude, effluent in vans is so noughties and aluminium and MDF is, like, so last century. You know the olden days - when Shitsvillians debated important things. Holden being better than Ford, whether daylight saving fades the curtains and what is unrepresentative swill? Your thumbnail allusion to an apology almost - almost - upset my mojo and threatened the world order. But after listening carefully… twice, or was it three times? I don’t know, I got sidetracked on boobies and football. Anyway, after listening carefully we realised the apology was more a parable. Satire about satire. Very deep for a mechanical engineer, but kudos to any engineer that listened in English. I am nonetheless reassured all is still ok in the world and can resume my mobile compost cartage in self-inflicted abject misery, confident in the knowledge of ongoing free therapy. My only complaint? I now can’t get two recurring thoughts out of my head. Boobies… football…. boobies… football. So cruel!

Having a caravan is a natural progression from Camping when all you could afford was a tarp and a sleeping bag. It was awesome free camping all through Tassie with the pups. Some amazing spots. Mainland also has hundreds of amazing beachfront camp sites where you can go swimming or surfing, walk back to your Van, have a nice shower, cold beer and a plate of fresh seafood your kids caught. Total comfort, and for a fraction of the cost of 5 Star Hotels. With a car and caravan still worth something if or when you want to sell. People that travel and hardly leave the resort are welcome to it. Some people just hate camping, in caravan or tent. Nothing makes them appreciate it.. I was brought up doing it and have some the best memories of my life. Nobody does half the stupid shit John mentions. He just exaggerates. So very entertaining, thank you John for a great 18 minutes. Every time you mention the beard-strokers (with tobacco stains today!) or the effluent cartage I can't help but fondly reminisce about the very happy days I had as a kid in the 22ft Viscount twin bogie caravan dad used to hire each Christmas and/or Easter. He'd take us up the coast from Sydney to as far as Queensland some years, stopping overnight along the way. It was the days of much more lightweight caravans and cars. We'd typically have a Falcon or Holden Kingswood wagon 3.3L with the aforementioned 'van behind. The sixes had no issues towing the 'vans back in those days. These were the days when most 'vans didn't have a toilet or shower and the mostly well maintained Caravan Parks provided those for you. I have nothing but happy and adventure filled memories of life on the road, through the 1960s & 70s, playing with new friends at each caravan park at which we'd stay at along the way. They were great family-building holidays. Some of those friendships endure to this very day.

Watched your latest rant whilst getting the van ready for our trip to Busselton next week. We go every year, and love it to bits. One of my mates calls his caravan a DIY project that you take with you on holidays. At least I will have the awful quality caravan park wifi with which to watch your next rant in SD quality.

Loved the apology, We are all season caravanners here in the UK, and completely agree about neighbourhoods looking like Mogadishu but theres me thinking it was down to the number of illegal immigrants we have in the UK.

So glad to be part of a community that cheeses off so many decent, law abiding, great car drivers. I toast you from on high. Haha.

Living in a sea side tourist village, I get to witness caravan sewerage cassettes emptied now and again, usually when I’m out for a jog. I reckon this piece of council infrastructure should be hidden away, and not on the main drag a couple of hundred metres north of the shops. Think of you John every time a see these people dumping their sewerage.

Caravanners came up with the term Snap- Chat..... the convenience of entertaining while dropping the kids off at the pool.

It’s nice to have a break away from the caravan dodging times I have while carting their spare parts. Like you stated a while back about pig trailers (and caravans), I find their road holding abilities a bit doubtful. A policeman at Yass, many years ago at a caravan roll over, summed up caravans in one sentence. What a marvellous and clever invention and then some crazy person put wheels on it.

OMG I am listening to this with a million cicadas outside.... I just turned on the Captions LOL I drive the M1 everyday and no joke I see accidents involving caravans at least twice a week. It's like the folks in those old people carts in the shopping centre who have now idea how to drive one going around at lightspeed .

Cicadas don't make noise if you have a flame thrower.

LOL! Well spoken! I owned a van conversion a few years back. I sold it in a time of personal economic shortage. Once in a while, in a moment of temporary forgetfulness I miss that fuel guzzling land yacht. But then the less than fond memories of emptying the gray and black tanks at the end of each excursion reminds me why it was a good idea to divorce meself from it. In the long run, a motel is much cheaper and less fuss.

❤❤ I think this may well be your masterpiece. Having worked in an outback visitor info centre several years ago I was having flashbacks. How many times did I hear "I couldn't find it in the TomTom" !! You did though forget to mention caravan dump points that effluent doesn't have to brew for the entire road trip😂😂🤮🤮

If you tow a caravan please remember, you are a huge inconvenience to all other motorists. Drive accordingly.

You should do a review of the boating community who have the added pleasure of rolling, pitching and yawing simultaneously while in their "vehicle"

spot on...enjoy your commentary ... even for a yank !! you sure make sense... Have a good mate who lives in Morgan, in a shack on the Murray... there is a caravan park not too far from the ferry, and whenever we crossed back into Morgan and drive by the caravan park, he had about the same thoughts you do, about caravans.... for those who are upset with the commentary... get over it... its satire, mostly true and very funny

Saw all the caravan antics when we drove around Straya. The sense of entitlement when they are on the road was only surpassed when they were herding in camping areas running gensets and caravan parks hogging the laundry facilities by (I kid you not) claiming that the empty machines are out of service and trying to physically block access when in reality "saving" the machines for their mates. We had a panel van, we could avoid them most of the time. Unfortunately some times unavoidable
