Sansa’s naïveté isn’t just down to her being a child (I’m sure Cersei was much more intelligent at that age lol), it’s also because she’s a noble girl from the North. She believes and does what Cersei tells her because everyone around her growing up was straightforward - whether they were good people or not. She believes everything Joffrey says to her because her only example of a relationship is her mother’s and father’s which is a healthy loving one. She can’t imagine any different because she’s never been exposed to any different.

In season 1, Sansa is a classical romantic. Romance being fantasy. She dreams of romance, not in the sexual sense, but in the medieval sense of romance, stories of honor, love, duty, etc. She's young enough to still be ignorant of the real world, but old and pretty enough to understand she is different than the spartan environment she lives in. King's Landing is a fantasy for her personified, with kings, princes and knights. She wants the fantasy to be real so badly that she's willing to live in denial in order to escape the harsh North.
@Talisguy8 ай бұрын
Frankly, I think Sansa is brighter than Cersei, at least she is by the time we're a couple of seasons in . Cersei is nowhere near as clever as she thinks she is - she's good at scheming and clawing her way to power, but that's kind of as far as her intellect goes. She consistently proves herself to be terrible at actually _using_ the power she steals. For instance, Cersei is queen regent during Joffrey's reign. Meaning that she rules in his stead. Meaning that she could have just ordered Ser Ilyn not to execute Ned and he'd have to obey. But she's either too unwilling to pull rank on Joffrey, too unprepared to actually wield power or too busy being resentful that she can't rule in her own right to use her power to stop Joffrey from stupidly screwing up all their plans. Cersei could have stopped the War of Five Kings with _one sentence,_ but she didn't, and unlike Joffrey, she actually knew that executing Ned was a terrible idea, so she doesn't even have the excuse of being too stupid to see the ramifications.

Robb is such a sweetheart honestly. Even before this episode you could see that he’d been thrust into an important position much sooner than he expected. You could see his uncertainty when Tyrion came to visit Winterfell, and when the wildlings threatened Bran, and now his fear as he decides to go to war to save his father and sisters. With all that's going on in this episode, the moment that stays with me is Varys saying he serves "the realm. Someone has to." After that, I knew there was at least one person who wasn't acting out of a desire for power. Varys has his own code of, ... well, ... not honor (at least not honor as Ned would define it), but it is a code that puts the good of the kingdom ahead of all the private battles. Varys knows that when the battles are finished, there still has to be a functioning country there for whoever wins.

You’ll hear Varys say he serves the realm, or does things for the realm throughout the series. He is one of few (if not the only one) who doesn’t have an allegiance to any name. He doesn’t care if you’re a Lannister, a stark, a Baratheon, or a bastard. He doesn’t care about the advancement of any house, he truly is just trying to better the realm. He is the master of whispers, and so has spies around the world so he can always know what’s going on. He has no wish to hold power, he really just cares about people. He will, however, say what he needs to to stay alive. Littlefinger is the complete opposite of Varys in desire. He’ll do and say whatever he needs to to get power. Sansa is naive, yes, but people always forget: she is a high born girl, eldest daughter, raised in the north, who has been raised to be the wife of a lord or a prince. That’s it. She is used to the honesty, honor, and love she grew up with in the north, not the schemes of Kings Landing. BUT, she also understands power dynamics. We saw this in the episode when Ned has to kill her wolf, which Ned explained later: Sansa was called in front of the king and queen and asked to call the prince a liar. Sansa knew this would be a terrible move, so she sided with them. This is something arya doesn’t understand- arya takes after the men in the family for this lol

Theon is not really a hostage in today's terms. Fostering used to be a common practice. Lords would send their sons or daughters to be raised with another family for a time. That's basically how they did networking. Ned and Robert grew up in the Eyrie, raised by Jon Arryn. Littlefinger grew up with the Tullys. Yes, Balon Greyjoy had no choice in this matter and was forced to give up his heir as an insurance, but still... Theon and Rob are basically foster brothers.
@harsh_19102 жыл бұрын
But he is a hostage though if balon rebels theon would likely die depending on if they need him alive or not
@ancatdal2 жыл бұрын
No, Theon is not fostered, he is a hostage. A hostage being treated kindly, yes, but still a hostage. Throughout his life with the Starks, Theon has always known that if his father rose up in rebellion again, that would mean his life at the hand of Ned Stark. It's a complex position for Theon, because naturally he would grow close to the children he was raised with at Winterfell, naturally he would look to Ned as some sort of father figure as he is raised by him. But always, always there is that threat hanging over Theon, and the knowledge that he is "only" a hostage, not truly a part of the family.
@dashabrunclikova69752 жыл бұрын
@@ancatdal you are right. I didn't mean it to come across that he is being literally, officially fostered. I was just commenting on his relationship with the Starks, mostly Rob. Sofie seemed surprised how loyal he was despite being a hostage. While that is still true, I can imagine young Theon seeing his and Rob's relationship to be similar to Ned and Robert's, for example. Since it's a common practice for high born children to grow up in different households, it's not that hard for Theon to keep forgetting he's a hostage. Especially with the way the Starks keep treating him.
@ancatdal2 жыл бұрын
@@dashabrunclikova6975 Sorry for misunderstanding! You are absolutely right, the fairly common practice of fostering among nobility very likely influenced both Theon and the Stark kids' experience with Theon being a hostage. And of course, the line between fostering and hostage taking isn't always a clear one either. I was probably a bit defensive before, because I've seen people dismiss Theon's feelings because "the Starks were his family", ignoring that they were his captors first and foremost, even if they were kind captors who befriended him. Sorry again for misunderstanding!
@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk2 жыл бұрын
@@ancatdal in the books when you read from Theon's pov (I will not spoil anything) that he didn't necessarily have as much a place among the family as it seems in the show. Rob is quite literally the only one he genuinely has. Jon doesn't like him, theon thinks it's because of his noble birth and that he is jealous. At times ned would treat him like a son and at other times be cold and distant. Theon was scared shitless of ned and feared the day he would lose his head to ice. The other kids were to young. Theon is 19 while rob is 14 together with Jon. The rest of the kids were to young to have any significant relationship with theon. Catelyn was distant. The servants treated him less then Jon. If Robert's Rebellion was 17 years ago in the show, and Robb was conceived at the beginning (when Ned married Cat and Lysa married Jon Arryn to bring the Tully's to the rebel cause), then Robb would be 16 at the start of the show. In the show, Robb is 16-17 in this episode, depending how much time has "passed" since Cat said to Ned, "Seventeen years ago you rode off with Robert Baratheon." She was pregnant with Robb when Ned left for War. In the show, that would make Jon also 16-17, Dany 15-16ish, Joffrey 15ish, Sansa 13-14ish, Arya 11-12ish, Bran 10-11, Rickon...7? 8?, and Theon 18-20? In the books, their ages at the beginning are roughly as follows: Robb 14 bordering on 15, Jon 14 , Dany 13, Joff 12, Sansa 11, Arya 9, Bran 7, Rickon 3-4ish? and Theon 18-19 in the books. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I read the books 10 years ago...) Interesting enough, the really aged up the adults for the show, too. In the books, Robert was around 35ish in Book 1, Ned and Cat were probably 34 and 33, respectively, Littlefinger 32, Cersei and Jaime (and Cat's sister Lysa) around 31, Tyrion 24, Renly Baratheon 21. I think it's important to know how old they were in the books, because it adds a different context to some of their mistakes...

Ser Alliser Thorn has a thorn up his ass and and a hard on for Jon because he and Ned fought on opposing sides in Robert's Rebellion. Thorne was always jealous and resented Ned strong reputation as an 'honorable' man. He sees Ned in Jon. I think everyone was Bran in the scene where the Great Jon Umber gave up two of his fingers to Greywind. Robb and Jon both are 16 at this point in the story. Sansa 13, Arya, 11, Bran 10, and Rickon 6ish. Daenerys is also 16. The older man advising House Stark is Maester Lewin. The old man who is giving you anxiety at King's Landing is Grand Maester Pycelle. They are Maesters of the Citadel. All noble houses have a Maester sworn to the service of the *CASTLE,* not necessarily the House and family. They serve as both advisors to the Lords of the Houses and teachers of their children. A Maester's loyalties can, however, be dubious with some. ALL Maesters are *supposed* to be loyal to the Citadel first and foremost, the castle/keep second, and the House and Lord of the House third. Maester Lewin is loyal to the Stark family, while Pycelle is loyal to House Lannister, specifically and particularly Lord Tywin. I like that you already see the desperate disparity with which Tywin treats Tyrion and Jaime. Tywin is one of the cruelest and most brutal characters in the game, but *so* *many* people love Tywin because he's such a "boss." He's a despicable pos. ✌️

While not being called zombies in the show, the definition of a zombie is just a dead body that has been reanimated. So the wights (that's the actual spelling) in game of thrones can definitely be classified as zombies. But seriously though. Did Sansa really think Arya was taking dancing lessons this whole time?

As you review music I think you should know that Jarome Flynn who plays Bronn had a successful music career as part of the duo Robson and Jerome. They had two UK multi platinum albums. He had the better voice of the two.

Lord Umber was drawing his weapon at Robb, which is a pretty huge deal. Robb could easily have him killed for that. Instead, Robb gives Umber an out by implying he was only drawing his blade to cut Robb's meat for him, not to hurt him. Umber takes the out by going along with it, and they all laugh it off like some joke, just a misunderstanding, even though it's clear that Umber just lost him temper with his lord's son. Umber telling Robb "your meat is bloody tough" can also be seen as him telling Robb that he now sees that Robb isn't some young pushover. This is where Robb begins to gain the respect of Lord Umber. Robb in this scene is leading with both firmness and mercy, and it's paying off. Robb is 16 or 17 here, since he was conceived at the beginning of Robert's Rebellion, which was 17 years ago in the show.

Lord Allisor fought with Raegar Taragayan during the war and when the Mad King was overthrown Allisor was sent to the Wall. He dislikes Jon Snow cause Allisor fought against Ned Stark and Rob Barrathon.

Ser Alliser wasn't sent to the wall. Robert notoriously pardoned the loyalists. Ser Alliser CHOSE to go to the wall rather than accept a pardon from Robert. He wasn't just a Targaryan loyalist - he was and still IS a staunch Targaryan loyalist.

“Pick up the sword” You mean your opponent is just gonna stand there doing nothing as you bend down to pick up a sword? That’s sounds very typical Hollywood war movie cliché. No, he’s gonna stab you soon as you break your stance to bend, thus exposing yourself.

Great reaction as always - surprised you only just noticed the handsome Robb Stark. 👀🙄 Bit late to this, i just realised. That last scene was all staged and rehearsed, it's a bit of a pantomime, everyone plays their parts so the scribes will write it down as evidence of the benevolence of Joffrey I. And you're the first person I've heard say it, but I've always thought scene where Arya needles the stable boy is weird too. Who is he to be wandering round the Stark belongings?? How does he know who she is? Why does Arya say, 'My father's a lord?' I always feel that it was originally longer but they cut it for time or maybe the boy wasn't up to a longer scene? (Sorry, mate, if you're out there.) Just something off about that scene. Anyway, on we go to a happy joyful Episode 9!* *It's been posted now, don't get your breeches in a bundle.

Did you say call a lawyer?lol they do not exist.
@helgar7912 жыл бұрын
It was funny when you said, "If I were her I call for a lawyer". As if there was a code of law beyond what royals wanted, said and did during those times. Also when you thought she was naive. Remember, in the books she is only 11 years old, and in this series she is all of 13. Of course she's naive, and her head is full of fantasies, untruths and other nonsensical stuff.

Ser Aliser was supporting the Targaryens and he was sent to the Wall by Ned Stark, which is why he resents the son, Jon Snow.

If they caught Aria. They would not kill her out right. It would come across as weak and cowardly. They would poison her or sell her to a tribe of men

Arya would be a hostage, so the Starks would be more inclined to negotiate and agree to Lannister terms
