Rest in Peace, Nicole Brown Simpson. It was a sign that the marriage wouldn't last when she was 18 to OJ's 30 when they married, and his signs of abuse. It's heartbreaking that she and her family never received justice for OJ getting committed, despite him later being incarcerated for a completely different crime.

In a somewhat related note, this is why I didn't care for Daxton on NHIE given that I feel Paxton got his growing up on the backs of his sister, Devi, and Lindsay. A poll asked who was the best GF for him and I argued that if it weren’t for Devi, he wouldn't be good enough for Lindsay. Because Paxton was such a King Baby and I feel Devi forgave him and extended lots of grace but he didn't with her. Plus like Roger and Don in Mad Men, he didn't bother understanding Devi. Devi you guys didn't look right because I see: Charles/Diana, Elvis/Priscilla, and OJ/Nicole and only one of those women survived. EDIT: I will also say the obvious age gap between Darren and Maitreyi added to this... literally the same as those real-life examples.

There's a quote from Andrea Dworkin's always relevant tribute to Nicole Brown ('In Memory of Nicole Brown Simpson') that has always stuck with me and I think is very applicable here: "You won’t ever know the worst that happened to Nicole Brown Simpson in her marriage, because she is dead and cannot tell you. And if she were alive, remember, you wouldn’t believe her." As well as, "Nicole Simpson, like every battered woman, knew she would not be believed. She may have been shrewd enough to anticipate the crowds along the Orange County freeways cheering on OJ... His friends won’t stop him. Neither will yours." I recommend everyone give it a read. I cannot put into words how powerful it is.

@@Daphneeoh Black women have a historical history of rage towards white women when their significant other kicks them to the curb for a white female. That would include you. Sadly the only justice she got is that when we found out that he died, no one cared or mourned. I've always felt he did it. Along with Diddy, R.Kelly, and Bill Cosby. Our communities has got to stop claiming "their just trying to take us down"when these people have had a history of dark shit surrounding them for decades

I've seen women painted as bad people in the relationship too much and it just makes me feel sick. Not like the cool "you make me sick" way, in the "I want to vomit and cry and scream" way. I wish people would just listen to women more often. Rest in peace, Nicole Brown Simpson.

This is spot on, Nicole Simpson was clearly in a terrible relationship with an abusive man but people didn't believe her story because they were too busy kissing up to OJ Simpson. I hope her soul finds peace. As for OJ, may he rot in Hell.

This video hits it on the mark. So often, when it comes to discussion of racism, we tend to take it seriously but when it comes to matters of sexism, that so frequently gets brushed under the rug. In some ways, misogyny feels more pernicious than racism because the idea that women are inferior to men has existed for millennia, while racism largely came about in the early modern period at the rise of colonialism. It's especially important to note that black men got the right to vote before women did and even after the suffragette movement won the vote, black women and other women of colors still lagged behind. It's absolutely wild how innocent black men can just get shot by the police while wealthy black men can get away with heinous shit.

People just don’t care about victims as much as they think they do, full stop, not unless it affects them somehow. You see it in every aspect of life, it’s easier to blame the person who got hurt than it is to call out the person causing harm
@rudetuesday6 ай бұрын
It was horrible to watch this in real time. The women in my life talked about Nicole, saw that she was hurting (she had reported her abuse, and it was openly known), made sure I recognized what they were showing me, and that what was happening to her happened to people I knew. Rest In Peace, Nicole.

I know this phrase gets thrown around a lot, but Nicole really did deserve better. Shes only known as OJ’s victim, one who didn’t get her justice no less. The facts the general public knows about her still come back to OJ somehow, she never got her own identity. I hope she’s resting in peace, especially now since oj is rotting in hell

The mammies and pick-mes are annoying. Jumping up and down over a man that wouldn't do the same for you is some nasty work. Nicole was a victim and for people to say she basically "cried wolf" on a Black King (with no kingdom) is also just as sinister. Seeing the DV rates that BW face at the hands of Black males I wouldn't be surprised if these so called Karens were telling the truth all along no shade👀

My mom has always been sympathetic to Nicole, especially because she used to be a similar relationship. It was hearing from her what it was like during this case that was the first time where I learned at a young age just how much society would bend backwards to protect an abusive man rather than protect an abused woman. It’s utterly horrific that all Nicole will be known for is being the victim of a horrific crime while her killer got away with her death. 😞

I was 5 then. My Mom was not invested in the car chase or the trial, she told me she found it disgusting how it was framed as entertainment.

Thank you so much for bringing up the Boondocks quote. The OJ case and the R.Kelly case always reminded me of each other. The way everyone knew what they did but were happy they got away with it. Beyond disgusting especially when you remember that Nicole was not only a victim of domestic abuse before her death, but a teenager when she married him. AND HE WAS 30! Yet the sympathy always lies with the violent man.
@mdragon126 ай бұрын
I’ve noticed it’s a lot easier to paint a woman as bad when she’s passed on and no longer able to defend herself. I see it a lot on these crime shows where everyone is terrible to the victim but shows sympathy to the killer! It’s awful.

Maybe it's cause I'm not american, nor was I born in the 90's but I truly don't know a lot about their relationship, besides how it was painted in the media, which was abysmal in itself. I didn't even know they married when she was 18 and he was a grown ass man of 30.

I don’t mean to be THAT PERSON BUT there was a lot going on concerning why people celebrated OJ’s win that is missing here-Prior to OJ’s trial, there was a LOT of racial tension going on in Los Angeles, and by the time OJ was on trial the most recent incident was the LA riots in 92/93, fueled by the beating of Rodney King by the LAPD. The cops were infamously racist, and people were fed up with how the LAPD had treated Black men in the past. Also, OJ prior to this was charming- charming enough that many of his friends wrote off how he treated the women in his life. He was a sports star, a movie star, and a Black man that EVERYBODY loved. He, however, never saw himself as Black until he was put on trial. So for a lot of people, OJ’s win was a win for them because of all this that went down in the past. But his win was a loss for a LOT of women. Nicole was not the only woman he abused, she was the only one he killed.

During the nine-month duration of the O.J. trial, Marcia Clark as another white woman who carried herself as a go getter and non-conforming to most feminine beauty standards was seen as a b*tch, a karen. While she did overestimate her relations with black women and not ever really grapple with the reality of why they were mostly defending O.J. at the time, the pain and loss she endured from the media every day for nearly a year, all the while being one of the only few people in the nation to uphold the truth of what happened to Nicole and Ron Goldman only goes on to highlight how this nation and the international behave towards woman as a whole and how often the black culture itself is willing to sweep things under the rug for the sake of conservative black excellence. Also putting apologies here to Christopher Darden too for being shunned and deemed an outcast to the black populace to the point he is clearly disillusioned with his own people and place in society.

Misogyny, classicism, ( and ageism early on) played a role into why Nicole never got the justice she truly deserved. She was an 18 year old girl with no experience in the entertainment industry nor didn't come from a wealthy background that was clearly taken advantage of and controlled so much. There is an age power imbalance between the two, and this is why I'm not really a fan of age gap in general, especially when it twice the gap (I go for 5 to 12 year age gap as long as it two legal consenting adults over 20+ tbh) but yet, many people blamed her for the reason why OJ is abusive and toxic??? Even though, he had all of the resources to get the help he needed from his own money. This makes NO SENSE if she was the controlling one, when she doesn't have that ability to do that.

O.J. SIMPSON WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY.
@aesanonymous89364 күн бұрын
He was acquitted and was found guilty in civil court. He was only acquitted because of the poor execution of investigation work done by the LAPD and the poor race relations between black people and the criminal justice system. They intentionally put multiple black women in the jury to lean in his favor. He had a well documented history of domestic violence against both of his wives. All the evidence pointed to him but he had more money, power, and fame to escape accountability.
