We use Backroad Mapbooks, found at Walmart, Canadian Tire, Real Canadian Superstore. I also have Gaia on my iPhone which is handy when in the backcountry.

Also have everything else fixed or get a list to work on. My dad was a mechanic he made me watch when he was fixing my cars so I would have knowledge of the workings of my vehicles and what has to be done and what can wait. He told me if it's not broke don't fix it. However you wipers needs some help. Just take one thing at a time. Bless your heart I envy you and scared for you all at the same time. Please don't think I'm being mean just advise from a old great grandma in Arkansas. Just have fun and be safe.......

Thanks for this video, especially with how you outlined all the resources and connections that you've made concerning your quest for back-roads. I also enjoyed the @tidelinetoalpine video on using the "BackRoad MapBook" and I finally purchased a paper copy for myself (Vancouver Island version). I'm not sure if you know this already, but one of the issues in using the various industrial roads (also known as Forest Service Roads, Logging Roads, Resource Roads, Back Roads, etc), is the problem of locked gates. Those big huge yellow-painted steel gates that the forestry companies use. These are primarily on the "Campbell River and south" part of the island, and I think they are less common on the areas north of Campbell River. Getting stuck behind a locked gate can be a big inconvenience. Here's hoping that your vehicle gets back-road ready soon, and you can enjoy that part of island life. Peace to you. :)

I don't know how anyone is out exploring, I'm in southern California, I just ran out of gas trying to make it to work. $200.00 a week is all I can afford it gets almost a full tank my van has a 31 gallon tank . Gas is almost 8 $ per gallon

If you haven't figured out how to use Google maps or Google earth yet then I'm pretty sure you do not want to follow crome because he'll go to places your not equipped or willing to go,, plain and simple . Not trying to bring you down,,, just being realistic.

Backroads dont start in residential areas. It's dirt roads off of local highways .
