I thought he was studying architecture? Seems like most degrees you eventually end up doing stuff you didn't study and weren't passionate about. I know a guy who is an Agricultural Architect. He helps people figure out what kind of plants they can put around their homes, that complies with the neighborhood's requirements. So he knows a bunch of plant species but also architecture and has to deal with regulations.

"What do I like doing?" I should have listened when I asked myself this at university. I invested a lot of time getting a software engineering degree. I could program and get some enjoyment with the problem solving. However, I always had this strange feeling that I did not belong there. I ignored those feelings and finished the degree because I was also scared for the future. After working as a software engineer for a few years, I made a lot of money but ended up burning out. My life went to shambles and I'm still trying to figure out where to go from here. Maybe I will go back to school and do something with mathematics and physics. Anyways, it's very good to hear that you decided to listen to yourself rather than that fear for the future. I wish you all the best!

I think I'm on a similar path as yours (web dev) what did you do on the burnout phase? Are you still working as a dev? Sending you lots of hugs bro
@paulkatarzis22313 жыл бұрын
@@suddha1 I am no longer a software developer. I was working on new technology demos for the automotive industry. There were a lot of factors contributing to the burnout: employees leaving and being pushed to take responsibility for projects not suitable for my background, a blurring of work life and home life, dealing with petty office politics, receiving little feedback from managers, having a general feeling of no professional growth, and of course having very little passion for software development. It is strange that I did not feel like I was being overworked, but there came a point where it felt like I could not function anymore. Listen to your feelings and do what you can to prevent burnout. Recovering from burnout can be difficult.

Go Peter! I got a bachelors in painting, but I was extremely mentally unwell when I did it. I wanted to drop out and only finished because of pressure from my parents. I wish I had taken the time in my 20s to get mental health treatment and start a degree later in life, when I was ready. Now I’m in my 30s, doing way better mentally and I wish I could have a do-over for art school. Of course, it’s never too late to just make art.😎You’re an inspiration in going your own way, Peter. Intermediate drawing is fun, youre past the fundamentals and can get into some different view points and learn some new skills. I had a lot of fun in that class. Lots of homework, don’t get overwhelmed. I recommend a planner and plan out your homework/projects. So you don’t get burnt out on art in general. Wishing you luck!!

I had to take a few years off and decided to change to graphic design which has actually been really fun and beneficial. My semester starts in less than a week and they haven't decided what they are doing in terms of face to face or online. I'm excited for all the cool things I get to learn this semester and to see what art you create from your art school journey. Peter! I am just a couple years older than you but everyone changes their minds about what they want to do. I am a two-time college drop out and honestly, I couldn't be happier. I am glad you are still pursuing a degree but it just wasn't my thing. I had the most fun taking as many different art classes at a CC just to learn as many mediums as possible. Then I got to the point where I was using class time as studio time. The head of the art program (who I am still great friends with) recommended that I drop out because he could see that being in class was slowing me down. I am still an artist and I still make art but I do it for me, not for money. I have a fine Monday - Friday that pays the bills but I am hoping my KZbin channel can grow. Keep up the awesome work and enjoy all of that sweet German candy!

I took years and years of art classes - drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, etc. a college drawing class will have you working from life and the second year of it will start to bring different media and introduce color to your drawings. By the third year they’ll expect you to have developed a style and mastered working from life. You’ll start to work on expression and work yourself away from just the formalism of what you were taught and use it to communicate who you are and what you see.

I went to college thinking I'd be learning how to build and create stuff so I could be like a Mythbuster one day (Mythbusters inspired me to learn about engineering and science) so far over the last few years all I've done is non stop math problems and I honestly hate knowing that I'm now so far in debt and nearly with a degree for a subject that I've almost grown to hate. I hope once I get a job outside college things will change. Best of luck with your endeavors Peter!

You learn the fundamentals in school but the application won’t come until a couple of years out of college. I hope you’re able to find something you like doing AND pays the bills! It sounds like you’d like something more along the lines of industrial design or a more focused degree, like getting a PhD to specialize and do more hands on work.

Love ur videos, your art and your funny quirky nature. And thanks to you my fountain pen addiction is real! You've gotten me into drawing again, something I never seem to find the time for but lately thanks to you I have, so maybe I can give something back... Maybe... Art school will help in certain aspects for well roundedness. Making you do figure drawing, studies of heads and hands, composition,3d and give you a great exploration of things every artists wants to be exposed too (and the people are freaking awesome!). You have to do other garbage to fulfill the amount of credits it takes to get a degree. I LOVED my time at art school but i feel honestly its no longer necessary unless you want to get a masters degree to give you the ability to be a teacher. Which you are! But this will cost you a shit load to be able to do in a credited school and there's no guarantee after the fact so its something to consider. So if you want to take the skills you already have which weve seen in your art I think you'd be a fantastic concept artist for games and or film. IMHO in your work I see futuristic and organic environment designs, I see mechs, and vehicles that the norm dont come close to which puts you in a very unique position. Being different is what everyone wants. Explore the idea of what you want to do if you already had the skills (which for the most part you do).

I wish we all could access to a space where there is a huge library with books and articles and magazines, meanwhile having some guidelines and assignments for the projects that we are doing, then there won’t be any need for a university.
