I know I know I know, I go back and forth all the time about which pens to use or which are good or bad or whatever. Really it doesn't matter, just pick up something and draw with it. It's just an idle muse of mine, and a way to create a little extra content, to keep switching pens and comparing them to the ones I was using them before. It's fun and it keeps me entertained, but I don't mean to make it seem like which pen you use matters more than it really does.

The best not-actually-being-born birthday i had was when I had no plans, no guests, just the people I happened to live with at the time. I realized that all the birthdays where i did make it a big deal were sooo uncomfortable and its kinda funny how many years it took for me to realize that on my birthday i prefer not to be the center of attention/celebrating myself with others. Yeah, ideally no one knows my birthday. The worst birthday experience I've had was once my Mom brought a cake into my work, and all my coworkers and all the customers sang me Happy Birthday in the middle of my work day. It was surreal, and extremely uncomfortable for me, an introvert. Love my Mom, she meant well, but that was awful.

The best thing about having a birthday is using that as a perfectly valid excuse to take time off and not do anything. I come at birthdays with the mindset of "it's my day, and I'm beholden to no one," and then spend much of the day napping and/or playing video games.

In my school days, before I really knew about pens, the Pilot G2, and the Pilot Precise V5 were my go-to pens, always. Pilot is still one of my favorite pen companies to this day.

I was looking for a comment like this wondering how many other Pilot lovers are in the comments lol Pilot makes AWESOME pens! The Pilot Metropolitan and Pilot Prera are both great fountain pens. Haven't tried a Pilot Vanishing Point yet because I'm saving up for one, but I hear great things! However, there's one pen I love more if we're talking about regular pens just for writing.. check out the Pentel Energel Alloy if you haven't already. It's got a good weight to it because it's metal, it's gel ink, and it has a textured grip section. Yes, I love pens lol. 😊💜

I picked up a Precise V7 the other day on a whim, and I have been surprised how enjoyable it has been to use it. The ink also seems to be darker black than what you'd expect from pens that aren't specifically for art. Certainly a terrific value. I also have some Pilot Acroball ballpoint (rollerball? I am not sure, they use a hybrid of gel and traditional ink) pens that are a lot of fun to use and especially write with.

I bought their Kakuno, my second fountain pen after a bad 10 dollar one, and it’s great. I also like the V5 for draftsmenship like drawing, such as cubes.

If you want to actually get good at drawing, pick up anything capable of drawing, and draw. Then repeat until you're good.

I have a story about these pens. I was about 15 and a group of my family members were playing Yahtzee. It got heated in a lighthearted way, and my sister’s boyfriend was wagging the pen at me. It slipped out of his hand and the tip harpooned my forehead as far as it could go. It stayed there and just bounced as I sat dumbfounded until I got over the shock and yanked it out. I had a tiny dot tattoo from it for many years. 😂 My grandpa always wished us a happy birthdate anniversary. As a kid I thought it was overly technical, but in my adult years it became endearing. Fabulous drawing as always!

Happy birthday Peter! Cheap things often work great. An example: My mom has had many different faucets in the past few years, because she always buys expensive 'special' waterfall faucets and they don't work well, rust are hard to clean or get damaged just by using them. Meanwhile the dirt cheap standard ones we have just work.

My favorite pens are ballpoint pens, they are extremely cheap, easy to get, and fun to shade or line with on almost any paper. The texture they leave is also satisfying.

Happy level up day! I felt a similar urgency when I was around your age. I don't mean that in a condescending way - just that I think tons of people go through that, especially creative people who do art of some kind for a living. We see how far we have yet to grow, and are hyper aware of the limits of a human lifespan. The older I get (I'm only 36) the more I just enjoy drinking coffee and painting to the best of my ability any chance I get.

hope you had a nice relaxing birthday! i feel you on the center-of-attention feelings there. the best part of my birthday used to be the fact that i shared it with my grandpa. so i got the big family party, everyone telling my happy birthday individually, lots of cake, but i wasn't the main focus and could disappear to read a book in the corner. now that he's passed away, i don't care to really do anything for my birthday. i do appreciate that my bank has an actual human call me to wish me a happy birthday, though. that's a nice little personal touch most banks wouldn't care about

I'm 31, Peter, and I'm turning 32 this September. I just ordered some fine tipped pens and a sketchbook today. I've never been a drawer but because I've recently discovered your videos I'm going to start and try it out. You purchase a metal shell that accepts infinite refills. Then you buy just the refill you want and shove into the metal housing. Voila! Any pen you want, you can have. peter love your videos thats one of my fovourite pens i love it except i use it in 0.5 or the v5 instead of the v7 i also recomend these 3 pens the sheaffer pop fountain pen and the uniball vision needle micro( its like a pilot precise hi techpoint but in the body and style of a uniball roller hope u like it) aswell as the pilot hi tech c i really hope u make a video about the 3 pens i love them and i think u will too plus there really cheap i really hope u try these pens and make a video about them plus happy birthday. u should make a video about your sketchbook tour and ur at supplies. love the videos

You can make some really cool illusions with grids. Make a grid where all paralell lines get closer toward the center, and fill in every other box to get a cool warping effect.
