All I wanted was to find fun vintage and cool antiques at bargain prices, and two thrift stores in Torrington, Wyoming made it too tempting to sneak off with Empoli glass, lunch boxes and swung vases in this fun video.
We start at "This, That and Then Some," an appropriately named combination of local thrift store and regional antique/vintage destination! This is a big find in a little town, and we comb many cabinets, kitchen queens and shelf units full of everything from MCM art glass to Victorian ivy balls. We lift flamingo mirrors, uranium glass and quilts at this place, even as they're giving us a great buy on a Muppet Show lunchbox that will make a perfect gift for a friend.
Down the road, "Land O' Goshen Thrift Store" is just putting out fresh vintage as we arrive! We nab a stack of stereocards that really belong in our Kentucky mall, while coveting the Empoli vases two women from Arizona score right out of the restocking cart. We steal a fun 1970s bag on our way out, and run down the road as fast as we can.
Fort Laramie is our final destination, where our prison awaits us! "The Trading Post" is short on antiques and vintage, but the original fort makes up for it with buildings full of pioneer era furnishings that show what it took to get soldiers to move to the frontier. We do our time in the jail, relieved that our sentence is suspended so we can keep on junking our way out west!

16:47 I LOVE that bag!!! Did you buy it? Do you still have it? If so, would love to buy it! Aw, I love the purpose of Land of Goshen; I love that you support them and identify with them. That’s how I feel about you too, and why you’re the gold standard to me of resellers. You NEVER come across as selfish, to quote yourself. It really sets you apart, and indubitably is part of why so many people support you. The proprietress’ pool of light-looking mustard seed pendant is neat. Some of those MAY have been made of crystal.

Good evening to you, George! Hopefully I can make it through to the end. We are having some rather nasty weather right now, and we could lose electricity. There was a glimpse of an enamelware pitcher next to the 1950s chef. Was it an old one? It was yellow with black trim. I really like old enamelware. Loved those celluloid boxes. I have several...handkerchiefs, gloves, collars and cuffs, neckties, etc.. I'd really like to have that barbed wire display. That snowy egret wall hanging actually interested me...that's unusual for me 🙃😂 You called them flamingoes, but...😂 That was a fun tour! Ft. Laramie was really interesting! Thanks for the take-along!
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
You are having a dose of the weather down there this summer! The yellow/black enamelware is vintage but usually 1950s-70s. I am such a big fan of both enamelware and celluloid boxes, if I'd had more space in the van I might have offered on a large bundle of them. So silly that I called the egrets flamingoes, I'm not fully aware in the morning and they opened at 8 so I really just blew that one! Ft. Laramie is a cool place I never imagined going, it's part of the adventure of all this travel, which I'm so glad to share with you.

@@TheAntiqueNomad I'm with you, on not being fully aware in the mornings! My aware time is between 10:00pm and 5:00am...always been a nighttime person. I've always really liked old enamelware. I think it's the simplicity of it that attracts me. I usually go more for the simple white with black trim the most, but other colours do interest me. The celluloid boxes, even the simplest ones, have a beauty that is all their own. I think the antique celluloid-covered photo albums have that same appeal.

Well, no more baleen baskets or carved ivory pieces. No more walrus tusk carvings either. No more qiviut scarves. Definitely no fur anything! Most likely back to vintage costume jewelry as my primary focus, but since I started watching you and Laura Caldwell, and Kat the Nurse Flipper, my interests (and knowledge) have certainly expanded. It will be interesting to see what is in my new locale. Maybe I'll be able to take some road trips myself!

I wondered about those Empoli bottles when the lady passed by you....I collected Blenko bottles 25 or so years ago andcwas a real snob about the quality of what I would buy. Back then, the Empoli pieces, while impressive in size, just weren't the same hand-made, blown glass like Blenko. I passed so many of them by....except at one estate sale in Buffalo, NY. It was the last day and there were a good number of the colorful and varied Empolis still unsold.....the dealer said if i took all of them i could have them for a dollar each! I ended up spending thirty-one dollars!!!! I still have them stored away. Im too lazy to resell them as finding them would take more than a little effort.
@TheAntiqueNomad

Most Empoli is thin and light compared to Blenko, they never could have afforded to send it halfway around the world otherwise. I prefer Blenko generally, but a good Empoli piece (especially cased) always gets my attention!
