When Matt recognized his engine, that triggered a memory for me. My great grandpa's merc had some serious problems, so my uncle and i went and bought a donor car. As we were pulling the car apart, he kept double taking at it. At first i said nothing, but when he pulled apart seats, he realized it used to be his merc in his youth, because he'd taken the rails and cut them up, so they'd fit him and his taller frame. It's funny when you realize something came back to you. At least, watching someone have the experience, i I haven't had such an experience yet, but i fully expect it to happen at some point. :)) Must be a trip.

The majority of people who appear on these KZbin channels try to take advantage of their time by learning as much as possible / as quickly as possible for a good reason: in the short / medium term to have the tools and skills to "fly alone", which is the law of life . Although I DO agree that apart from the desire to learn, Katelyn also seems to have innate abilities for everything related to off-roading (remember that she has been competing in Rock Crawler for a long time...)

Matt will help you build some character, whomever you are! It's especially cool because he offers the time and gives the opportunity. A lot of faith goes into standing back and hoping they succeed (and not break themselves or his stuff!). I think it's great to see young people develop; like Lizzy or Kaitlyn and Matt's boys 👍

Matt has such great dad energy with Rhett and Kaulin, but it's extra special when watching him with both Lizzy and Katelynn. Not sure if he has any daughters of his own, but the girl-dad energy is next level, in the best way. He's handing out knowledge to the whole lot, letting them struggle, and pushing them forward in areas they show interest and aptitude in.

For some reason I feel like saying this: in my opinion this is the best car related channel on youtube, and in fact one of the best channels overall. Everything just works, the vibe, the style, how natural and normal everyone and everything is, no unnecessary acting and so on. I often just smile through the whole video and replay some parts several times just because I like them so much, and I'm always looking forward to new videos.

I think it’s kind of sad how Matt always points out how he always takes a break. He gives him props and tells him what a great job he’s doing, but he also likes to definitely in multiple videos how he takes breaks. I just don’t think that’s very good to keep saying, as you get older as a child, you remember that part two just as much as the good stuff you also remember the bad stuff that was said. right now Colin like the golden child that doesn’t seem to do anything wrong in Matt’s eyes.

@@SuperAWaC My dad was a "car guy". He taught me and my siblings as much about working on them as we wanted to know. Our friends started hanging out at our house as well to work on their cars, and my brother rebuilt a 1939 Ford from the ground up. Then the parents of those kids starting coming over, probably to see what was going on. We would have picnics in the front yard every month, someone would play a guitar, we'd sing old songs. It was great. We would also have card parties on the weekend...people would just show up and my parents never turned anyone away because it was "a bad time". Sadly, when my father's health went downhill and we could no longer host everyone none of the neighbors offered to pick up the "slack". Everything stopped. I don't know that cars actually had anything to do with the closeness of our neighborhood so much as my parents being very welcoming to everyone they knew.

Matt, have you ever heard of the Groaning Chair? It’s a woodworking tool, perhaps the most important one. You might need one in your own shop. It’s the place you go when the project you’re working on stumbles, when a critical part breaks, when a lot of effort suddenly goes *poof* up in smoke. The Groaning Chair is one of the most important tools in the shop.

Regarding the comment about other people helping those who are stuck. Matt summed it up well. Most people out 4 wheeling or UTVing now seem to not have the skillset to recover a vehicle. I've been off roading for approximately 50 years now, and initially you had to do all of the mods and maintenance on you vehicle yourself, and do any self recovery or field repairs yourself, and whatever buddies where traveling with you. Now, most of the folks I see on the trail, or during club rides have no idea how to do maintenance or repairs on their own machine, and don't have the mechanical knowledge to safely recover a stuck or broken vehicle.

As a southern Utah local with two built jeeps we pull 1-2 people out minimum every time we go out to sand hollow. We run trails 2-3 times a week. Rarely do we go out and not pull at least 1 person out. Especially when it’s been as dry as it’s been. The sand at sand hollow is not like any where else I’ve been. It’s like talcum powder when it’s dried out and most people don’t know how to drive in it. I would bet there’s at least 30-40 stuck vehicles every busy day. I’ve driven the Baja, Dumont, Glamis, beaches in Cali Texas and Florida and everywhere in between. You won’t find sand like ours anywhere.

The Morrvair, Banana, the Wrecker, the Bombi, those are special. They're really 1 of 1, hand built. I can appreciate those far more than a Lamborghini. It's arrogant to think that Lamborghini is special, I mean to say it's 1 of 1500 others or that it's #2 in a particular state is really stretching it to call something special. The fact that it's twin turbo is nothing that every other youtuber with a Lambo hasn't done repetitively.

7:32 Just a couple years ago I was renovating to put an apartment in my house.... I was disassembling some very old hardwear, a regular home 120VAC outlet, but the box was originally made in the t920's, they are a distinctive shape and made of VERY heavy duty gauge steel, or iron. I mentioned to one of the kids, some old electrician installed the new duplex plug with a ground wire in this old box. All four original #6 X 1" wood screws had their slot head aligned horizontally even though they were not visible once the cover plate was on, same with the cover plate screw, and the two 6/32 X 3/4" outlet mounting screws. The 14 gauge copper wires, were perfectly looped in a 360 circle under the terminal screws, precisely bent 2" of free wire under the outlet too! The I saw it, the 14 gauge Romex cable was held by a wire retainer, placed on the INSIDE and tightening nut on the OUTSIDE of the box, to save space, Nobody does that, it's very rare. *I* am the only one I know who mounts wire retainers like that in residential applications. Then it dawned on me why the outlet was so perfectly installed!! *I* had done it for the computer station that used to be there when we first moved in into the house some 25 years earlier!! :)

I get it Kaitlynn. As a woman who through my working years was in the “man’s working world” I understand wanting to” do it myself”. Too many times I had well meaning guys almost push me aside trying to “ show me” how to do something. You have to be assertive and you seem to do that well on this engine tear down. And I can see how much Matt just wanted to tear these engines down himself. Heck, as he is talking about letting Kaitlynn do it herself he can’t help but keep his hand on the engine. 13:55 .. Back in the 1990's I worked at a new Nuke plant we were building .. I worked for the turbine contractor. It was a BIG job in the thousands of employees, so someone would organize contracting a school bus, so you didn't have to wear out your car driving to work and back!! The pick up spot was about a mile from where we lived in the brig city at that time. I didn't want to park my car or even chain up a bicycle in that area as either might get stolen! :) I also didn't want to walk... so I Roller Skated! :) For YEARS after I'd meet guys on other jobs who called my "Roller skating guy" :) and ask if I had the skates with me :) More than one of the guys said it was a "Claim to Fame" .. It was even motioned briefly at a union meeting once. :)
