This was a studio-created band by two popular producers and remixers, Clivvilles and Cole. The vocals are by the amazing Martha Wash, who has been the voice on so many dance records (she was one of The Weather Girls). The woman in this video is NOT Martha. They left her out of the video because she was a large heavy woman (with a huge voice). She sued another group, Black Box because they put pretty little girls in the vido and album cover and gave her NO credit on the album. She won that one. Pretty sure she sued and won against this group and rightly so.
@jacquelinejacobs2353 жыл бұрын
I recall that happening and it made me angry when I found out about that! It disgusted me. How low can you go? Obviously pretty damn low here! It's still a great song mostly due to Martha singing her soul out!! They should be or if they haven't done so yet, be thanking her for making that a hit record for them. I posted something similar as did a lot of other people about this topic that surrounds this song. It's all good now it was a long time ago! Peace,Love,Music ;o)
@lamusiclover22643 жыл бұрын
@@jacquelinejacobs235 unfortunately, record companies care about image and record sales. They don't feel that heavy people sell records. There are some artists where they would put some art on the album cover with no photo of the singer. Think of how many overweight singing stars there are, especially women. It would be hard to come up with five. Lizzo is an exception, and I hope that she is breaking the glass ceiling. Martha Wash had an amazing voice and nobody sounded like her. She started as a backup singer for Sylvester, and he called her and the other backup singer Two Tons of Fun

Martha Wash was brought in to do demos of the songs but they used her vocals without her knowledge and without credit. She sued and won and also made it law for vocalists to be properly credited. Their biggest hit (uk at least) ‘Ride on time’ didn’t feature Martha. It was sampled from Loleatta Holloway’s Love Sensation who also sued later and got credits added where it was used on an album.

Probably one of the most influential pieces of video of the last 3 decades. You can see its visual style, graphics design and camera movement in advertising campaigns, magazines, movies (guy ritchie was among the first to "borrow" some stylistic elements from this, tv shows (nickelodeon shows took heavily from the graphic design elements here). C&C Music Factory may not have stayed a hit long in the US but its video influenced so many new styles - especially in advertising - forever more.
