Not having brand/product loyalty is so important, especially for someone like you who has influence with your audience. I respect it and wish everyone was like that. Looking forward to some tutorials. I'm going to give Resolve a try, myself. I like Premiere but I'm interested to see how Resolve can improve on it. I was always hesitant to switch because there's just always been way more resources for learning and troubleshooting with Premiere due to it's popularity and widespread adoption. Now that I see more creators (especially ones who are serious about their production quality) making the switch, it's given me confidence to try it out myself.

As for resolve, that has changed a great deal in recent months to a year or more. I found several YT videos that show how to work in it as I made the switch to Resolve recently and I came not from Premiere, but did do PP CS4 as one, I didn't want to do the subscription thing, and two, could not afford to, and all that. I then went to Hitfilm, but it got bought out by Artlist last year and now its future is uncertain, thus, resolve. Mind you, at the moment, it's 12.5.1 as I run (currently) a decade old PC running a Core i5 processor so this will work on that aging PC and I'm hoping to upgrade soon. I refuse to "rent" stuff like this as your work hangs in the balance of if you fail to pay, you loose your work. Plus, it does not help that Premiere is now getting worse, not better with reliability etc why so many are jumping ship.

Honestly, DR gives you value for your time. I began using it when I started my channel as I could not pay the monthly Adobe subscription. I have grown by leaps and bounds. You changing shows that change is permanent and a great editor is always learning. Excited to be using the same editing platform as my mentor!

They also added something game changing that as an editor of podcasts you'll likely find as valuable as I do - the ability to transcribe your raw footage, search the transcription and find exactly the words you're looking for. I can't get over how sick this is.

That was a backwards move. FCPX roundtrip is still so far superior to doing all in Resolve. Resolve is a clunky editor, just like Premiere.

Tell me how that project management and archaic resolution and frame rate support is treating you? 😂 Don’t get me wrong man, I’ve been using Resolve for since 2009… it’s great. Amazing software…. But since your still coming to grips with the change… please trust me. Just go back to FCPX. Do the xml round trip. That’s if you value your time. A switch from Premiere makes sense. Premiere is an absolute dog to edit with, always has been… it’s what I started on 20 years ago. Amazing that the UI hasn’t even really changed since then! 😂 But FCPX is light years ahead of Resolve in its UI, it’s underlying code base and it’s speed of actually editing. Resolve will always be my go to for colour, no doubt…. But bro, until they rewrite the base code to support real projects, with lots of timelines, each with their own unique frame rates and resolutions, fox how they deal with compound clips and unify things at its core, instead patching things together, it’s a dogs breakfast. They’ve done well in a short time since editing was Brough in…. But…. It’s a long way to go yet. Don’t take my word for it though, blaze ahead. By all means. 👍 You’ll butt your head up against the issues soon enough.

@@SaltEarthandSun Yes, I'm ediitng professionally and doing VFX for big budget client and also delivering for multiple resolutions and aspect ratios for clients. We mostly work with 4k, 6k footage and the project management is rock solid, the editorial department uses Kyno for all management which is a specialized software and for framerate support, Resolve covers all of our needs. I don't think anyone who uses Davinic Resolve and then tries FCP would actually wanna use it, so anyone someone on the internet says how fast final is blah blah, I instantly get an impression of the type of edit they are doing and if that's good for them, it's great but it's way too much of a toy to get complex project done, I mean you can have your opinion but you can't just change the reality. Haha, yeah I agree with the premiere statement but saying FCP's code and UI is light years ahead it just pure ignorace and emotional response rather than a rational response that supports the stats. FCP is cool but it hasn't gotten any major updates in years, it's fast because it can only run on Macos but Resolve is way way faster when it comes to editing, rendering, being able to do much more than anything FCP has to offer, and speaking of code base, BM has rewritten REsolve multiple times and when M1 came out, Resolve was not only one of the programs that so support M1 out of the back but it also outperformed FCP in many cases when it comes to rendering. I don't think you actually know what you're talking about, yeah they wanna for sure rewrite the codebase for the tool for the 10+th time as if its not already used in pretty much all movies unlike FCP, I'm sure all the movies that are graded with resolve weren't real projects 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I don't think you actually know this so lemme clear it for you, you can have multiple timelines with different framerates and resolutions and also have sandwich style timelines in Resolve. Yeah man, we are working on million dollar movies and commercials and recently swicted to Resolve for editing all but I'm gonna make sure to tell the editorial to switch to a software pretty much no one uses in the industry. I mean sure if it works for you but like there's a reason why it's mocked as a toy, why people left it after FC7 and avid is still being used in agencies who edit movis and Tv shows, yeah I'm sure final cut is definitely better and not a toy. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@rano12321 I think you used the point here a bit. FCP is an editor. I never spoke of resolves other facets. We are talking about switching from FCP to Resolve for editing. Not colour, not anything else that it can do that FCP can’t as a result of acquisition, fair light, fusion etc. As an editor - it is faster. Period. If you haven’t used it, you would know. Period. I use both. Extensively. Every day. If you’ve found a way for a project to simultaneously support multiplie frame rates and resolutions, including 19:6, without changing the core project frame rate, without all your grades and tracks breaking when you have to break the nested sequences to scale them up with our pixelation, I’m all ears. If you are indeed using the software in the way you say, I bow down to you Sir, if u you can explain this one thing. Since the best in the industry still can’t find a real solution to this problem and it’s accepted that the code base needs to be rewritten to support it, maybe you have the solution and everybody else just missed it? Fcpx only drawback is it’s lack of a solid project sharinb foundation… Sam based support was clunky.

@@jeffschaap I think it might depend on where you start from. When I went back to editing (when I learnt it was on tape) I started with Resolve and so I am used to what might seem an odd way of doing things, but I look at some of the steps people take on PP or FCP for example and I think. bloody hell that's a long way of doing stuff, but then I look at some of the drag and drop things and ask why Resolve can't do those aspects that way. I think it may be the same as whichever OS you use, centuries ago I started on a mac, then went to Windows for work, 2022 back to Mac and there are things that drive me mad in both, but some things are easier on one than the other.

I got davinci at my work about 6 months ago and it's been a great switch for me coming from adobe. There are a few things, like the fusion page, that are a bit of a learning curve, but basic editing and coloring are so much nicer!

Since you're getting the Studio version, you'll be glad to know that 18.5 includes editing from the autogenerated transcripts of your videos. Just like Descript, which speeds a first cut TREMENDOUSLY.

I switched pretty recently and have been happy with my choice. I was able to adapt to it right away after editing one video. Still don't have everything figured out, but I'm getting there. Best part is color grading on Davinci. My videos look better than ever. I'm sure I could've achieved the same look on Premiere, but having a fresh look using the new node system has been eye opening. Also, it's just way more stable than Premiere. Less crashes, less lag.

I recently switched a couple weeks ago and it was the best decision! I originally planned to use it only for color grading, then I ended up cutting footage in it as well. And on a recent project got to use it for some motion graphics with a good amount of moving elements! It’s crazy how little time I’ve been using it, but am already editing faster in it than I did in premiere. And it’s free 😁

Went from Adobe Premier to DaVinci Resolve. The Nodes were intimidating at first but realized how easy it was to understand and use. Also the HDR wheels and Log wheels are what really sold me on switching. The HDR wheels are what make this video editing software truly professional. The constant crashing of Premier was an absolute nightmare.

I got the Davinci Resolve Speed Editor back when it was $300 in v17, and it included Resolve pro license so I essentially got the Speed editor for free for buying the license. I'm still learning but it runs great on my older PC with GPU.

I made the switch like 5 years go or more. I liked Premiere and I actually have it for free from work. But it was so buggy and rendering was a nightmare. It's actually a bit funny that a lot people are switching now. This has been a problem for so long, can't understand how long people stuck with Premiere. You already switch to another program earlier, but a lot of people are switching from Premiere to DR now. And as I learned Fusion it makes so much more sense with a node based compositor. All the After Effects tutorial seems so wrong now when I'm used with nodes. No destructive coming layers needed , reusing stuff much easier etc. More After Effects user should be a look at a node based workflow. Welcome to the Davinvi Resolve community.

I use both Resolve and Premiere on a weekly basis. Premiere gets used for the videos I get paid for only because that what the company I work for uses. EVERYTHING ELSE I do in Resolve. I don’t believe Resolve has ever crashed or even had any noticeable hiccup with anything I’ve thrown at it. You’re definitely making a good choice for real!!

I also dropped Adobe a couple of years ago and started to use Davinci Resolve and Canva for my KZbin channel, but I bought Affinity Photo and it quickly became my favorite software for thumbnail. Sad part is that I'm studying graphic design and seem like every tutorial and class is on Adobe illustrator and almost none on Affinity Design.

I switched to Devinci Resolve about 2 years ago. The first few months with the free version and eventually upgraded to the studio. I’ve been happy with it. Overall is great video editing software. There’s one thing that I wish they would improved. I get this Jello effect when I stabilize jumpy footage (warping). Drone hyperlapse videos mainly. 😕

I made the switch around 6 months ago and i'll never look back! Love Adobe and their products, but with Premiere Pro crashing all the time and DaVinci Resolve having small features that make editing easier, it took around 2 weeks to learn/ customise and was the best decision! All that, and i only pay once for the studio version and that's it! They also seem to update with more features more often!

I've been a FCPX user for over a decade now and have so much invested into the platform. I bought a BMPCC 6K Pro not that long ago and DaVinci came with it. I will say that it feels much more professional to use and has so many features that its unreal. There is a learning curve to it but I will say once you have your process down for not only how you edit but how you organize your projects footage and settings you'll be off and running and won't look back. There are a few things FCPX does that I like and some things are much easier but all in all like you DaVinci just makes me feel like a professional when I sit down in front of it and I'm also not a brand loyalist either 👍🏾

Three years back I made the change to Resolve from Premiere (after 22 years!) Within 2 days I was doing a lot of things faster and have never looked back. The whole philosophy of BMD is to meaningfully solve problems for filmmakers. Adobe lost their way years ago with their subscription model and are now all about profits (at least it felt that way). I decided to go AdobeFree 7 years back - it took 4 years (I needed to replay Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and too a lesser extent In Design and AE). I'm so happy (I use Affinity for design/publishing). Better software and no monthly costs. Resolve is just a joy to use °¬)

Resolve is amazing and my main editing tool too, mostly because of the color grading, which is what sets you apart as a pro. But it does have some serious cons, for me the stabilization on Resolve is useless, especially when compared to what AE and Premier can do, even FCPX has better stabilization than Resolve, I’ve tried every way to make the stabilization in Resolve do the same as Warp stabilizer but it just can’t. Also, Motion graphics and are not well optimized, if Resolve crashes, it’s often because of motion graphics or some compositing done by Fusion, don’t get me wrong, Fusion is very powerful for compositing but it’s not well optimized and AE and FCPX do a much better job at integrating motion graphics and VFX. Fusion is just complicated.. and right now there are very few plugins for Resolve that help you do exactly what you want. Still even with all that, Resolve is worth it, I’ve used FCPX most of my time and switched last year. The color grading is how good your image looks and the most important part of the video (after story of course 🤪) awesome video Matti!

Never had any issues with stablization with Resolve, pretty much rock solid for me. I wouldn't say it's not well optimized, it's basically having another program inside one program so it takes more ram so if you have 16GB or less than it can crash simply because of that. If you're solely doing motion graphics then sure AE has a big edge but for everything else Fusion excels in every way, it was used in movies and tv shows for like a decade, never had any issues with Fusion's optimization, you just need a lot of RAM if you wanna do complex stuff and not render them to disk. For plugins, you don't necessarily need plugins for a lot because the stock tools in Fusion are enough and after BM released DRFX, anything you make in the Fusion page can be turned into a drag and drop effect in the edit page and there are youtuvers like Mralextech, Jayartv, Patrick sterling have made 100s of presets and plugins and there are also companies like motionvfx, motion array are now seeing DR plhuins and presets.

Think the biggest factor why so many people love DaVinci, is the one time payment for the full version. None of this subscription junk that you feel like it's just another bill you have to pay each month. Second would be the ease of use of the program itself with how all the integrated graphics, sound design, color grading is all rolled into one program. You're not jumping back and forth between apps to edit and correct things that eats up time.

Welcome to the Resolve fam! My best decision ever was switching to resolve, used to HATE editing but now i love it. Ended up just being frustration from premiere crashing and being SLOOOOOW 😂 Ps. I STRONGLY recommend trying the speed editor! It speeds up the cutting process a ton, specially for multicam stuff! Honestly a must have in my opinion, specially when upgrading to studio its like 70€ more than just a license 👊🏻

Switched Premiere->FCPX->Resolve in 2019, and have seen Resolve develop massively in the last few years. There are still bugs and crashes in Resolve, but almost 100% of them happen in the Fusion page - Cut/Edit/Color/Deliver are *incredibly* stable -- but there do be gremlins in Fusion

I started on Avid in 2003, mostly switched to Premiere in 2005 with some FC7 at times, my job in 2016 forced me to do some work in FCX (which I loved aspects of and also hated aspects) but I preferred working in Premiere when given a choice, but I fully made the switch to Resolve in 2019ish and never looked back. It’s one of the fastest, best looking, most convenient, and I agree had the best long term plan. Their upgrades have been solid and is loving fast.

I’m sticking with Premiere for seveal reasons, but mostly because I use several Creative Cloud apps and will being paying for it anyway. I rarely have issues and can edit 4K in realtime without proxies unless I’ve got some really heavy effects going that I don’t render. I do pretty simple stuff, so that’s not often. BUT, I hope all the big KZbinrs switch so Adobe will make Premiere even better. I can use DaVinci down the road if I ever need serious color grading.

Same. I’ve never had issues with Premiere. It crashes every now and again, but the program doesn’t even close or stop running. I just send an error report and keep on working! I edit in 4k real time and never worry about sluggishness. I also have so much time and effort invested into Premiere and for where I’m at in life right now, making the switch makes no sense. My employer funds my Adobe subscription too, so there’s that 😂

BTW in the latest premiere's update they made that even if your computer crashed the project saved anyway and other stuff...

Ha! Just saw this notification pop up on the phone! After spending the last 6 hours struggling with Premiere Pro after its most recent update, including complete fresh reinstalls and everything else, I'm pretty close to jumping on the Resolve train

I like how the software license (whether that be a digital key or the USB dongle) works for both Davinci Resolve AND Fusion. Which is in a lot of ways way better than AE. I am still mostly on AVID but still got the Resolve studio for coloring.

I think I need a break from watching "filmmakers" on youtube. I feel like all they do is buying and reviewing new gear. And I rarely saw them produce any film to be honest. It pushes me into spending all days comparing and dreaming about best gear, and not really producing films, and making money

I love FCPX for quick vlog-style videos, that is where I do think the Magnetic timeline shines, but I agree once you start working on bigger projects with scenes shot on multiple days and multiple cameras, Final cut does fall short in my opinion. Premiere was my favorite for organizing media, but as you said, it is so buggy it's too frustrating to use. I am now also using Davinci, and though the media organization is not as good as Premiere, it's way better than FCPX. Plus, the more I learn about the color grading tools in Resolve, the more I love it. Jason

Welcome to the club! I switched last year from Premiere, and I don't regret it at all. I was still holding onto Pr for small things like automatic captions, but with the last few updates Resolve is really catching up! Finally deleted Pr last week, and am super excited to now use Resolve full time!

Another great video Matti! Could you maybe describe in some video the process of switching to Davinci? How long it takes you to learn the new program to be able to edit on PRO level, etc.. I am trying to switch since December, but it is very hard for me. :) Cheers from Prague!

I'm making the switch to. Over the last few months, premiere has been more low then ever. I have not been this excited about a editing software since I started almost 5 years. I have been with Adobe since the beginning of my editing journey. But it's now time to say goodbye to it. Can't wait to see what davinci has for the future.

Nice! I’ve been using FCP for my edits and on some occasions, I’ll bake and blade my fcp project into Davinci Resolve. I love the editing feel of FCP but totally agree on the coloring of FCP. DR allows for more control. I’m not not fully ready to switch for editing to Davinci resolve.

Every filmmaker should be on DR, it’s seriously that good. Hardest part coming from PP will be the effects vocab. DR has slightly different vernacular so that can be a learning curve.
