Just got back from a month in Kenya and Africa. Truer words were never spoken. Airports and the process absolutely are anxiety inducing! We tried to leave from Los Angeles airport but my EVisa was declined though we had all the paper/digital pass cleared in hand….didn’t frickin’ matter…DECLINED! Missed flight…out money…booked safari waiting 10 thousand miles away. Had to book new flight and safari guide had to bribe someone in Nairobi to fix it. New expensive COVID tests, etc…, etc….transfers, delayed flights, running from terminal to terminal, hurry up and wait. Drew I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND your anxiousness. Takes a certain kind of unique bullheadedness to accomplish what you do. Do you ever find joy in the puzzle solving part of the journey? Keep the videos coming!

I absolutely hate airports as well especially during short transfers from one flight to another. The bigger the airport, the worse if you ask me (Heathrow I am looking at you). Hence whenever it is possible for economy class I always buy lounge access. It is worth the 30 to 50 USD entry fee (you will make it back in less stress, the food, drinks and comfortable seats).

I am a traveler as well. I keep log on how many flights I get to go on (30 in the last 3 years). As a solo traveler, there is so many things to worry about: gate changes, security, customs, navigating a new city, and now COVID restrictions. I love traveling but my anxiety and heart rate just jump up. I've had flight delays, cancellations, and got bumped from flights. When you are in an unfamiliar country, that can be scary. I had an incident in Shanghai where I got escorted to the hospital because 1)I was a foreigner during the height of COVID 2) my temperature was too high 3)heart rate was too high. It was just a reaction to traveling and the summer heat.

Hi Drew, as an Aviation Enthusiast, the best part when I travel is Airports and flying because I can just go stand by the airside and photograph planes. But the terrible parts are the delays, immigrations, questioning, and the most terrible of all, is the airport security checks. They’re so stringent and will confront you if you have multiple camera gears( as it is not allowed everywhere) and when you carry packaged food and drinks, as well. But other than that, I do love most airports, especially the huge International hubs and I don’t fear them

Drew! Never be afraid to share yourself……on every level! This clip gives me a better understanding of all you go through on EVERY level to produce your content. I was in the travel industry for about 40 years and traveled extensively for business. It takes its toll. For me, the challenge is how severely claustrophobic I am. Even though I was fortunate to mostly fly first class, I had to pretty much talk to myself so I could chill out. Not afraid of flying at all….love flying…..not being able to get out at will was/is, my bag. At 66 years old now, iv3 surrendered my wings and will no longer fly. Thanks for sharing!! I ADORE airports, being on planes, etc, but I can definitely relate on some level to the downsides of airports. Idk, I have been to 26 countries and all 50 US states and even so, there is something so incredibly magical about the airport, a basically real-life time travel portal, where we can climb aboard giant mechanical birds and go to sleep, and wake up on the other side of the planet. It still baffles me, even as I’ve suffered flying 4 connections with a whopping ear infection, delays, annoying passengers constantly elbowing me, etc. A good neck pillow, sweatshirt, eye mask, and headphones, and enough water, and I can fly for days.

I am the same exact way about airports, and I’ve never even flown overseas or to a different country. TSA gives me so much anxiety. I even make sure I wear slip on shoes because the thought of me holding up the line and getting yelled at by TSA is so nerve wracking. And then finding the correct terminal in time, especially if you have a layover. Oh my gosh I can’t even imagine being in an airport that doesn’t have an English option with the signs. You’re a brave man, simply for that. Especially during COVID

I traveled to Poland last August 2021. I took the plane in Malpensa airport (Milan). At the checkpoint, the guards called the police for arresting me just because I had a fake-rifle bullet as a key holder that I have bought many years ago in Estonia. Long story short: they released me after 20 minutes of "worrying" and kind conversation with my fake-bullet confiscated. I luckily succeeded to take the plane for Warsaw. I also suffer from a great deal of anxiety at airports. It peaks around the time where i have to go through security, and after that i'm calm cool and collected. I can somewhat relate to this.

I love the whole airport progress because in my mind it is all leads to my destination. I think the reason i haven’t developed any anxieties is because i’ve mostly only travelled as a student and in the pacific and Europe. I don’t carry bulky camera gear or anything fancy. The only things i’ve gotten confiscated has been my metallic rulers or scissors in my pencil bag. Anyways, good job pushing through the anxieties and safe travels!

Thank you Drew!!!! Your honesty, vulnerability, and courage to share this and to trek on is very appreciated!!!! I, and many others, share your dread of airports. The pandemic stopped me in my tracks. I was headed to 6 months in Eastern Europe in 2020-did not happen. My gypsy spirit feels like it is on death row. I am trying to get motivated in spite of how horrendous airport protocals were and now, during this relentless pandemic I have totally avoided airports, but my spirit is paying a high price for this entrapment. Again, thank you! I hope you make more videos of things such as this...

Drew, I love your films and thank you for the efforts you've made to produce them, educate and entertain. You spoke of your severe anxiety at the beginning of this film. Please, please, please do something to raise awareness of another way in which severe anxiety can affect us. I attempted suicide almost a year ago, Drew. That was in September 2020, when I took a massive overdose of opioid painkillers. I was unconscious for 18 hours before spending 3 nights in hospital being treated for kidney damage and pneumonia. Suicidal thoughts have persisted in my mind since that time in a cruel, circular fashion. I am plagued by severe anxiety and the physical pains which go with it and yet I am afforded little in the way of help and support to provide respite. I know that many others face the same as I do. Life is so cruel for me in that I spend so much time sat or laying down with little energy or will to even write and email to an old friend to ask them to spare me a thought. Thank you for the opportunity to write a few words here. Best wishes to you on your adventures, Drew. Please consider sparing me a thought as I continue to battle away. Michael

So true, airports are so exciting the first few times but later every aspect of it can be stressful, about not losing flights, getting connections, losing bags and checkpoints, specially if one travel alone, can't imagine while on pandemic. I miss going there now anyway 😆 safe travels and enjoy!

Can't agree more 🤯 I get anxiety hours before stepping to the airport, thinking about all the process also makes me anxious. I hate the process of checking in and going through the passport control, but on the other hand I love traveling

I’m not a big traveler to say the least(only been on 7 flights) and I’ve been held off 4 flights for questioning and security checks. So I can’t imagine what you go through. Twice In Orlando Florida, once in Paris, France, and once in Florence Italy. It’s such a stressful situation

As an On Board Courier, I know what you mean. Ive been flying almost non stop the last year. Traveling with time sensitive commercial cargo as checked baggage when different airlines and countries have varying regulations, arriving in third world countries who's customs agents often extort me for bribes even though I have all the legal paperwork. But after everything it's still a very satisfying job that provides a lot of unique life experience that most people aren't able to acquire and I enjoy all the twists, turns, and challenges along the way.

I can seriously relate to you but in recent years especially during covid, the whole airport experience has gone haywire. I have missed my flights, been stranded at the airports missing my connections but in the end, when I reach home, I simply feel good. So embrace yourself and I will you good luck for all your future endeavors. I look forward to your videos.

Travelling does get stressful & terrifying at one point espicially at an airport, now I get the dark side of things & the bright side of it, just like travelling all 197 countries sounds cool on the outside, but we do not know how travelling to all 197 countries on the inside would even be like. You may have severe anxiety of airports but I'm very happy of you that your still putting the effort to travel around the world, god bless you Drew Binsky!

I feel the same, Airports are so stressful. Recently I had to take a flight and my boarding pass said it was once of the B gates which had their own security checkpoint, after going through security I didn’t see my flight on any of the screens so I decided to check online and they had changed it to a C gate which had another checkpoint, so I had to leave the airport completely to get back in again and go through security. Another stressful thing is that they were only accepting those cheap surgical masks at the airport despite the airline’s website saying fabric masks are fine, and those surgical ones are so uncomfortable and always give me the worst headaches. My fabric mask has 5 different layers and a bunch of different features that make it a lot better than a cheap surgical mask, this makes no sense to me.

In October 2019, I designed my own 2-1/2 layover in São Paulo, traveling from Belo Horizonte to my home in Toronto. The desk agent in Belo Horizonte told me I would not have to seek out the luggage carousel. They would move my bag for me -- across two different flight paths? This sounded fishy to me. Even with a high beginner/low immediate proficiency in Portuguese, I could understand her, but I made her repeat it. I remember insisting, "eles são dois bilhetes diferentes", but I let her persuade me that for some reason, this Brazilian domestic carrier would move by bags to Air Canada. So I'm on the ground in São Paulo, asking Air Canada employees, with just over 90 minutes to go (now in English, because we've changed airlines), "I can go to the baggage claim. I'll run to clear security, and I'll meet you back here". But I'm in a megacity. They said "you'll never make it . . . they shouldn't have told you that". Disappointed, I board the 10-hour flight with only my carry-on. Four whole days after, my bag appears on my doorstep just outside Toronto (no doorbell, mind you, and there really should have been), unharmed by would-be porch pirates. Kudos to Air Canada for absorbing the cost of a mistake that wasn't even theirs. 💚 I made them work. The moral of the story is: not all "scams" are intentional. Some are procedural, made by well-meaning desk clerks who overstep their capabilities. If a statement seems too good to be true, it probably is. =) And you CAN design your own layover, I will be doing so again. But leave twice as much time as I did. You may also wish to speak with a travel agent to understand how this may also affect your insurance.

I can totally relate to the stress and anxiety with travel...timely video considering we're about to embark on a 23 hour bus and 13 hour flight. It definitely makes you feel very vulnerable when at airports and if youre travelling on a budget its even harder to predict the random things that come up...that's why I highly recommend people have a buffer fund when travelling. Great video as always
