Overthinking will kill you. It's a habit I had for 28 years and for the past few years I just occupy myself with things to do. No questioning. Whatever I write in the morning on my to do list, I have to do it. For the day and for the rest of the week.

Very relatable dude. I had some struggles myself recently and want to share with my viewers but like you said, the in laws, wifes friends, etc. Anyway, good for you for getting clean. It’s hard when you can be functional and use. It seems like it isn’t a big deal. It’s legal etc. but it can still ruin your life. Good job and good luck

In a world full of fake people that mimic happiness, being genuine is a superpower. Realizing you haven't got it all figured out is the first step, to make the necessary adjustments. Because I think that's what we do all of our lives, making adjustments, that translate into decisions, whether being small adjustments or slightly big ones. I think that you will succeed and make the necessary adjustments that will put your life back together the way you want it to be. Keep going! You will make it! Thank you again for being genuine, it's a breath of fresh air. Take care, be well!

That's great! Keep it up 🎉 it's definitely not easy, but it's so worth it. I used to smoke 1.5 packs of cigarettes a day for 7 years and drink way to often and too much. It's been 7 years since I quit (alcohol, cigarettes and coffee) and I started working out and improving my diet. I can't even remember what it was that I liked about it. I feel clear headed, stable and proud of myself (i used to feel really ashamed of my habits). Facing my fears without needing any substances and going through life knowing that I can be happy and content without the help on any drug has really helped me and my relationships. I don't have a perfect life or anything, but I feel like I've conquered a lot and it helps.

Dorian, I don't commend often comment, in fact almost never. But I feel as though I need to write to you on this topic. You need to stop being so hard on yourself. Labeling yourself with all these shameful names is hurting you more than its helping. The passive shaming your putting your ego through is ruthless brother. You are capable of accomplishing anything and you've proved that. Allow yourself some freedom to express to your own ego that you are capable and you have your own back even if the world is against it. When we shame ourselves into action we become our own worst enemy instead of a trusted friend or ally and the parts we are fixing are patched together with distrust in our own intentions. It really hurts our own inner being to trust in itself to accomplish what we set our logically focused minds to. It also rehashes the circuitry of our original shaming IE childhood traumas. I like where your head is but balance is the most mindful activity we can engage in. I don't know the depths of your addictive behavioral patterns but smoking weed every Friday with a few beers that already sounds like your using way less and already on the path to stopping entirely.

It is a good thing to get rid of bad habits like drinking and smoking. Thing is that you cannot compensate with for ex drinking something else twice as much. Everything is about balance. The 1st step is to identify the problem and accepting that it is an issue. After that, if there is a will there is a way. Also people have bad habits for decades and expect immediate results after 2 weeks, It does not work like that. The first days will be hard depending on your mental will / power but once you are over the 1st days / weeks you will feel so much better that you will avoid these bad habits without any hesitation. Good luck on your new journey to being better, stronger, healthier and wiser. The best version of you is under construction. It is never too late. The past is gone, stop looking back you are not going that way.

I love and really respect how open you are to us viewers. It takes a lot of courage to accept one's own shortcomings in person let alone in front of a community you gained from hard work. I just want you to know we really support you and your journey! And you are not alone! I think we as a community can help you by losing our bad habits too. Due to depression and anxiety I had slowly became an overeater(maybe not as big as weed and alcohol but still a legit addiction) and after i overcame that I still had and I still have a sugar addiction. This sugar addiction has actually started affecting my physical health too and from today i pledge to control my addiction. Ig it will be easier knowing someone else is fighting a fight like mine too.

Just remember the relapse is not the end of the world if you can get back out of it, live and learn. At one point, like you i hated the feeling of losing control. While before it was my goal in life. Sometimes something just have to click, like a switch gets flicked in your brain. Having a healthy set of goals aided me, something that keeps you busy and interested in discovering things in life while also not over working and over stressing yourself so that the nagging feeling comes back for you to feel a desire to use.

Shut your unexperienced mind. Advices like this will kill many people. Hopefully those who read your comment will understand that your a child who knows nothing about what are you talking and will dismiss. I am in addict community and I see people come and die who cant go full sober. And your right about one thing, we do have to live with it everyday and that is a good day, but as soon as a addict forgets he is addict - he goes deep in the rabbit hole again, and i've heard so many stories in my community, ive seen so many people who came to us crying for help, tell us about how life is destroyed and then they try to be sober, then they fail and just die. People are fucking dieng everyday because of alcahol and drugs. U just dont know how crazy everything underground because nobody is talking about this stuff in media and news. but if your in the addict community u know. So please, do not never give advice to any person to "jsut do drugs, alcahol" even to a person whos not addict yet, because you can never know how quickly you can become from normal alcahol/drug abuser to an addict and ruin YOUR life and damage lifes of many people around you. This comes from 1st experience. half year a go I wanted to kill myself because I was about to become homeless because I was spending all my money on alcahol. I was lucky to hear on the suicide phone number about the community of addicts and that people are getting sober there. Right now my life is getting better, I Found decent job, new friends who are not drinking and doing drugs (which is hard today), relationship with my family is better, I study for profession, I go to gym. And if someone like me would took your comment seriously and I would go take a beer today - I would lost it all in a moment. Maybe even die. Pls, dont.

3:10 as someone who finds peace in Buddhism, I don't think you should treat yourself that way. If you determined the bad behavior, just try to fix it, just the same way a kid would do when learning to ride a bike. On the herb topic, I recently was diagnosed with a precancerous condition due to smoking, drinking shitloads of coffee and stress all combined, and I was forced to stop smoking. 3 months after I stopped, I went to a dispensary, got an edible and realized how much I was able to do being mildly high. I certainly don't endorse people smoking, or trying drugs in general, but if you can handle the effects and can operate without failing on your responsibilities, I don't think that will make you a bad person, specially in a world where the herb is widely approved. My inner Buddhist would say "Balance is key" brother.

I've been smoking weed daily for pretty much 15 years. I know it's probably not very healthy but it honestly keeps me going and it doesnt get in the way of the things I need to do in life. So I've just come to accept that that's what I do. After I finish working and the things I need to do I kick back with a joint and enjoy my free time / hobbies. It's my medication. I dont use any prescription drugs and dont have any issues with alcohol or other drugs. Still, massive respect for anyone that wants to kick their habbits.

I smoked weed from the moment I woke up until I went to sleep pretty much every single day for almost 20 years. There was some time off here and there. I wish I could just enjoy things in moderation like a joint or a couple of beers after work but I can't. Abstinence is my only option because I have no self control when it comes to drinking and smoking.

Good timing for a video. I’m trying to be sober from weed. You stopped me from immediately lighting up this morning. If you have an ADHD diagnosis, it can be difficult to trust. But the way an ADHD brain works with dopamine production is different which can drive addictive behaviour. Your brain could be attempting to be self-medicating.

For me personally, it was 6 months for me to forgot about weed being an option. For the first 1-4 month any minor annoyance, failure, etc I would immediately think about weed. (this was after 6 years of smoking daily). Similarly, I was always grumpy and bored for the first 3 months, think my dopamine was just fried. Now I barely think about it, and starting to feel normal but I honestly can't remember what it was like prior to the 6 years.

I quit alcohol a few years ago. Quit edibles 2 months ago. Only quit weed because it made it hard for me to wake up at 5am in the morning. Nothing wrong with edibles imo, try major thc drink, it hits in 40 mins start out with 5mg i guess. They sell it here in Seattle. I used to do 24ish mg up to 4 times a day. When I quit i had been doing 5mg a day, sometimes twice a day on weekends. I would sometimes go 1 - 3 days without it randomly. I smoked illegal weed for many years. Drinking weed at least takes away the guilt about damaging lungs, so slipping up and getting high is only a discipline problem and not a health problem.

*Dorian, brother, read this in it’s entirety please. I really understand where you’re at, and I know I was all over the place with how I typed, but if you read what I’m telling you and listen to what I’m saying you can really take control of your life. It will massively improve your personal relationship with yourself, and everybody around you. I’M PRACTICALLY BEGGING you to read every words of what I’m typing so you can live a happier life. I know you want change, and if you understand what I’m saying and implement it in your life you will be successful.* Firstly, I want you to understand something that may seem unrelated to your situation at first but keep reading and it will help you so much, brother. I’m sure you’ve worked with lazy people in you’re life, and I’m sure you’ve worked with hard working people. Stupid question, but how did you know they were lazy or hard working? It’s obvious! You watched their behavior and said “they’re lazy” or “they’re hardworking” by watching their behavior. Guess what, brother? Think about it, the same way we label other people by observing their behavior, we actually do that for ourselves. I noticed you called yourself a “piece of s” I believe twice in this video. I know you did once, and if you didn’t the second time, it was something similar. You’re calling yourself that because you’re observing your behavior, and you don’t like it, and you call yourself a piece of s. If you don’t workout, you know you’re lazy. If you’re doing drugs, you know you’re not living up to your standards. You’re observing your behavior, and assigning a label to yourself. Understand this a very dangerous place to be when you’re feeling low. If you feel like a piece of s because you’ve watched yourself not live up to your expectation, that actually encourage more bad behavior. Why? Well it’s simple, you watched yourself do something you don’t like and told yourself you’re a piece of s and now that mindset creates this effect of “whatever, I’ll smoke this blunt. I’m a piece of s anyways”. The way out of this is bizarrely simple, yet people can’t see it. I smiled at 10:10-11:00 because you intuitively understood it, but you don’t understand in language what is happening. Like I said earlier, you assign words like “hard working” or “lazy” by watching people work. You do that same by watching yourself. You want to change, yet you see yourself as a “piece of s” look at 10:10-11:00! Despite feeling like a piece of s, you did something that a winner would do. Again, you describe yourself by watching your actions and assigning words to yourself by observing those actions. It’s funny how you say you were proud of yourself, right? Well why were you proud? A self described “piece of s” who felt trapped watched himself not be a piece of s. You watched yourself take control. So what happens when a “piece of s”, goes out and starts doing great things? You observe yourself doing great things, you start to consider yourself a great person, and you start to do greater and greater things because it becomes a loop. I watch myself do great things, I tell myself I’m great, I feel great, I do more great things, I become greater. I know I’m all over the place, and rambling, but compare this mindset and how it’s the the opposite of the loop I said earlier. In the earlier example when somebody feel bad the loop looks like this: “I’m a piece of s because I’ve watched myself be a piece of s, so I do piece of s things, and that makes me feel like a piece of s and that’s how I know I’m a piece of s so I do piece of s things.” The way for you to get past feeling like a piece of s is perfectly encapsulated in 10:10-11:00 Any time you feel low, and like you’re not the type of person who is capable of something just remember to go do that thing. Work towards it. With time, you’ll lose the “I can’t” mindset because you’re watching yourself do it! Another thing I’d like to add is that at one point you said “this time change feels different”. I hope so, and I’ll give you a test for you to know for sure so you can make the change. Here is the formula for somebody changing. Stage 1-3 are people lying to themselves and those around them. Stage 4 is true change. Stage 1: Compelled by authority to change. In other words, you get arrested and are court mandated to not so drugs. That only lasts until the court stops testing you. Stage 2: Comply to escape criticism. (“It’s when everybody expects you to do it, so you fulfill their expectations.”) Maybe your wife gives you a hard time so you say “yeah, yeah, I’ll quit”. Stage 3: Intellectually aware of the need for change. Stage 4: Mentally and emotionally self-motivated by change. In other words, “fuck this! I can’t live like this anymore. I’m not happy with myself and I’m not doing this anymore”! Notice this difference between step 3 and 4. Anyways, sorry my message was so long. I hope you understand what I’m trying to tell you. I’ve enjoyed your videos and gotten a lot from them and I hope you got something in return from me. PS everything I told you is me paraphrasing things I learned from Dr. Phil. The biggest tragedy is that that man got marketed to middle aged housewives instead of men. If you watch the show, as female oriented as it is, you’ll get way out of it than huberman, Jordan Peterson etc. Those guys are good, Dr. Phil really is on another level. At a minimum I’d recommend listening to him on Joe Rogan, and some of his podcast episodes! You’ll get a direct insight into bettering your life. Best of luck Dorian!

hey man, did you try reading "allen carr - stop drinking"? While I did not read it myslef, I read the quit smoking one from the same author, and it worked wonders. I was in the same place as you regarding cigarrettes, tried to quit several ties, but never could. I swear, once I read that book, I knew at that moment that I would never smoke again, and have not touched a cigarrette for 3 years, but most importantly, I lost the craving instantly. His method envolves NOT using willpower. I say give it a try. Hope you are still reading this, as I posted it kind of late (relative to the upload date).

Day 30, Awesome! I'm addicted to energy drinks and I'm going to take this as inspiration. Good luck! Also, google ketosis for treating AUD. Apparently people who really enjoy alcohol may be positively reacting to the switch from burning glucose to burning acetate, a metabolic byproduct of alcohol. So, switching to a low carb, high fat diet in which you burn ketones may have a similar cognitive boosting, mood enhancing / stabilizing effect. The literature is very limited on this issue; mostly just case studies at this point. But it is promising. Ketosis might be a good treatment for a range of mood related disorders from Schizophrenia to Autism Spectrum Disorder. I can say that is has benefited me. And you don't have to do it forever to benefit from it as the metabolic dysfunction associated with glucose metabolism might fix itself long term during the period in which you are in ketosis. For example, ketosis has been used to treat epilepsy for drug resistant cases yet the seizures stop after a long enough period in ketosis even if carbs are reintroduced. Anyway, I just wanted to shill this. It is at least worth looking into! Maybe go down an internet rabbit hole about it. Here is a link to a paper about the acetate / ketone connection: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abf6780#:~:text=With%20chronic%20alcohol%20drinking%20as,beyond%20the%20acute%20intoxication%20state.

Funny because I wasn't aware of that at all but I did start a Carnivore/Keto diet almost at the same exact time as I gave up the weed and booze. I will definitely look more into it now. Thanks!

Please bro read the freedom model it cured my addiction and saved people who have been in substance practically out of the womb. The book is based on 2 main aspects Free will And how to change prefernaces I really really really tjink you need it with how you talk about yourself about how you have a addictive personality and how you get hooked on things and your self image is tainted by being an addict.

Dorian i love your content But in your previous videos you said you dont get your desired sleep and you dont sleep very well I think you have a deviated septum in your nose which is vsible from the structure of your nose. Get yourself a surgery or do some pranayama to fix it or you will suffer from sleep apnea

If you want the gods honest truth, your mentally weak, if your pushing 40 and still can't kick the booze or drugs, plus you have two small children, how do you even have the spare time to get inebriated and or high? Plus all these 30 days of sobriety are just a drop in the bucket, until you can really take control of yourself and deal with past trauma and insecurity that created the substance abuse in the first place.
