I started following you as a self taught programmer, I honestly feel these videos are so important and alot of us are suffering in silence. I'm struggling with addiction as well, in top of being bipolar. Thank you Dorian you are shedding light on darkness.

One thing that smoking weed regularly does that I never hear anyone call out is that it kinda trains you to breath incorrectly through your mouth. Unless you're really mindful, I noticed I started mouth breathing subconsciously. Past few months I've been mindfully nose breathing and doing some pretty intense breathwork exercises (some of these exercises have 2+ min breath holds), and I feel like i've somewhat corrected my lungs lol. Learned a lot of this from Huberman. Appreciate the motivating content dude

Not sure if I ever noticed that when I was smoking. I have been sleeping with my mouth taped shut for a few months now. Honestly not sure if I've noticed much of a difference since I started doing that but I keep doing it because it's super easy and now part of my bedtime routine. The one thing that I love about it is never waking up with a dry mouth!

Love how you put first things first and keep very down to earth mindset! So many self help materials are so detached from daily reality and focus on abstract goals, failing to acknowledge that taking care of one's mental health and higher needs is also a privilege. Thanks for a great video!

For me, Addictions, Gaming, and Exercise can all be forms of avoiding dealing with emotional issues. Exercise is the best version of this, as it'll burn off some of negative emotional energy, but none of these will fix emotional problems. Sometimes avoiding is important b/c you can't deal with some issues in the moment, or sometimes you can't deal with all of it all at once. But at the end of the day, gotta address the problems & stop avoiding them.

Thanks for posting this! It's very helpful and there's a relatable story behind it. How are you able to hold down a job with all these struggles? I've lost 2 jobs from health issues, I've been off work for 5 years, but I saved enough knowing my health wasn't stable. Can you make a video about holding down a job while struggling with mental health?

i have been subbed for a long time since i started my self-taught programming journey but I really love that you use your platform for more than helping people chase a career. Like you pointed out, earning money doesn't make the other issues magically vanish, as I have been learning this myself it is really helpful to know that I am not alone and put effort into improving my life just as you do.

I think it's not about making more money, but enough to have a decent life. Interaction with your family, spouse & kids is what make the sun shine every day.

In our Bible study, the gospel tells us to kill our old self and move forward. Always progress forward. Knock the dust off your sandals and move on. That has helped me tremendously since I’m always recalling stuff from my past.

I struggle with motivation and purpose. I fake it and I do a lot of the things you mention in the video.. but at some point I "crash". it's like I slip back into reality and go, what's the point. I am good at doing better... but I don't feel better. and the long I go without feeling better, the less motivated I am to continue doing better....this cycle is tiresome.

Super relatable and I agree with the finance and health stuff. It makes such a difference. My external environment is a huge factor in everything which sucks because it isn’t really in my control. I’ve been dragged through some pretty crappy legal stuff and it has been going on for over two years. That kind of thing smashes your mental wellbeing.

For me, the last point is the most powerful. The future is uncertain for us all, so don't worry too much about preparing for it, and don't compare yourself to others. You could have untold riches, the perfect relationship, amazing friends opportunities... and then get cancer and die within a few months. Even those that appear to have the most successful and secure life possible can have it all taken away from them in an instant. So we must strive to practice gratitude for the good things in our lives as they stand, and find some peace in the present moment. This is the only life we get. We shouldn't waste it in a constant state of anxiety over a future that may never happen. Obviously there are people in constant pain and other truly horrific circumstances where this advice might seem trite or futile. For them, this approach might not be enough. But I think aspiring to this mindset can help a great many people who may only need this shift in perspective, as difficult as it might be to fully attain.

I've been real broke like you said, and that shit mentally scars you pretty badly, even to the point now where I have money I feel a huge amount of resistance even spending a little. It's super unhealthy. The living in the moment is bang on too, but it's hard, I find my past haunts me a lot (as it is for for a lot of people). Anyone know the song at 2:35 ?

You don't have to spend time editing videos - your message alone is what counts! All this editing is very time-consuming. Just speak from the heart and that's a great video already :)

hey man giving this advice from good intentions. music is way too distracting and like 25%-30% too loud, same about some not needed closeups. just wanted you to know this because I like your videos, especially ones about addiction but this one was hard to watch because of distracting editing and loud copyright free music. some editing was great like at 3:44 when pyramid is visualized though sound effects were distracting even on that. good luck.
