It really sucks 😩 Especially, when you know you're qualified and a smart person. Sucks, when your anxiety takes over and everything you practice goes out of the window.

Exactly the same thing happened to me three days ago with Facebook. Even the construction thing, not sleeping well, everything. At the time of the interview my mind was blank. I couldn't write the code even though I've solved hundreds of problems from Codeforces, UVa, and Leetcode. I've worked very hard and this happens to me. It feels unreal. The hardest lesson I learned three days ago is that hard work doesn't always pay off.

I felt so much anxiety too before my first legit technical interview. I reached out to my professor to setup a mock interview and it really helped me. I think it helped tremendously since with him I could tell I didn't sound as energetic and passionate as I want to be and as clear when talking about myself and my coding thought process. He gave me his tips, review, and how I can improve and I think it helped get the jitters out of the way. Honestly I think mock interviews are the best way to go even if the questions you get are completely different as it'll help you get in the tempo and groove of an interview.

So you looked at the Recursion section, ignored it, and got the exact question in an interview. Sounds like you should stop cutting corners and take it seriously. I’ve also used Algo Expert and have 110 or so problems done. Fibonacci is a popular question all over youtube, and various other sites. Anagrams is also a popular question. It seriously looks like you don’t do many mock interviews at all, and maybe try memorizing answers. Both are a real problem for the long term of your future interviews. If you can’t control anxiety attacks, focus on what you can control which is preparation. You also really have to ask yourself, why did the anxiety attack come up in that exact moment? Is it purely due to being nervous? Is it really outside of your control? If it’s that bad you might as well mark yourself as having a disability and needing some accommodation from the interviewers.
