Funny. Most people who own tech companies are....drum roll..... DEMOCRATS...Almost like the truth and the narrative dont add up huh?

Studies have shown that in recruitments where the candidate's race was hidden to the recruiter, blacks performed worse than in cases where the candidate's race was visible? So it seems that some form of system racism is occurring, but paradoxically it is a racism aginst non-black cadidates and it is favorable to blacks! If so, in what magical way does prejudice against blacks actually block their access to the IT industry?

@zerostozeros13 күн бұрын
Keep it 100; we all know why many black people aren't in tech. And it's not racism. It's a sad fact, and it's difficult to pinpoint the origin of this behavior, but it is real. Approx. 4% of computer scientists are black. It's not a good sign for the future of the black community.

I used to have a couple friends, super smart and brilliant coders (I think, lol), but they were definitely the toxic “RTFM NOOB LOL” types. Which is what mainly dissuaded me from pursuing coding professionally. Now that im older and disconnected from them, I’m really interested in it again! Never let others prevent you from exploring your interests!

These interviews are totally unrealistic and a lottery. They have nothing to do with real work. The best we can do to protect our profession is to deny us as a collective to do these interviews. Have you ever seen a medical doctor obligated to pass a practical exam to be hired? Have you ever seen a civil engineer to be obligated to design a bridge in an online interview with terrible tools and under high pressure and very limited time to be hired? That´s the problem with this profession. We are not a serious and strong collective like civil engineers or medical doctors. We dont have dignity or respect for ourselves probably because there are a lot of impostors.

I am a black woman who started in tech in 1980 in the Navy. Continued as civilian in 1990, retired as a govt public service a analyst few years ago. In a 40 yr career in tech my experienced went from being the only black person to the only black female in technical cert courses. I retired from public service as the 1st and only black woman in a Networking dept implementing MANs n Campus LANs. If your experience is being hired as the "token" person of color I'm dismayed this continues. I ❤ tech but eventually adjusted my way of thinking about my field. We're hired to tick boxes, have more formal education and experience than most our peers but are expected to continue to provide solutions others get credit for achieving way too often. Young man, I'd hoped this would've changed by your generation. I hope you help to continue to put further cracks in that ceiling! BSCS CCNP

Drawing on my background in Computer Science and my experiences as a software engineer at two different companies, I have observed firsthand the pervasive biases that continue to exist against Black professionals in the tech industry, specifically within the realms of software engineering and development. Despite my qualifications and readiness to handle my responsibilities, I encountered significant challenges that extended beyond the technical aspects of my role. The workplace culture I experienced was marked by undermining behaviors from colleagues who frequently critiqued my methods and outcomes without justification. Such actions often transcended professional feedback, evolving into personal attacks and sabotage that seemed rooted in my isolated position as the only Black engineer in the department. This repeated reminder of my status not only as a minority but as a perceived outsider made it profoundly difficult to maintain professional equanimity and focus on my contributions. The real struggle lies in the resilience required to navigate such an environment where your efforts are consistently discredited not for lack of skill, but for the color of your skin.

Convincing a racist heart not to be a racist heart is somewhat futile. Racist culture is a thing, but I admire your bravery for speaking on this topic nonetheless. It's just sad that society doesn't always receive that racism exists in the tech-world.

Racism, bruv you have a skill issue not a race issue, tech literally has no borders, if you're good you'll get there no one gives a shit if you're orange, black, Hispanic, blue or white. If there is discrimination it's to people outside of the US salary wise, otherwise there is literally none in that sector, it's the biggest mish mash of nationalities that you can think of.
@ericwoods62864 ай бұрын
Not really. Black people just aren't smart enough to code. For every 73 bazillion blacks, only -.74 can actually code. So in a sense, it will take another 57,000,000,000,000,000,000 years before we find a Black guy who is smart enough to code.

Its very much a gatekeeping culture. Masters degree in Computer Engineering and getting jobs worth my education and experience is tougher than finding Tupac. Dont get me wrong I get interviews for 6 figure jobs but the final boss (aka white, Asian, or Indian manager) opinion usually says no for lack of experience that you can ONLY get by previously working for that said job. Keep pushing tho ✊🏾

I would not totally rule out racism. It is still a factor. All too often I have heard many whites in tech say they got hired on without a lot of experience and the person who hired them asked if they were willing to learn and got hired on immediately. I have even heard white people in tech tell me that they were hired in tech based on their appearance; "they said I look like the type of person who would be a good fit." But every time I speak to a black person that got hired in technology, the first thing they mention is the certifications and experience they had to have before getting hired. And also it is culture. Growing up as a black teen I was called corny or a dork or nerd if I wanted to excel in school and take up something more technical. All I'm saying is both are a potential factor, but don't rule out racism.

The subject and reality is on point. This racist system and gate-keepers are creative on keeping us out. When people in power have always had a mental illness(hatred) toward our group and some toward "any lower class".

i think excellence will always be the key. look at Asians. Their excellence is 100% the reason they succeed. They out save whites, do better in school, take harder STEM majors, work harder, are less likely to be arrested, incarcerated, or suspected (in victim ID) as violent suspects. They have higher credit scores. They have significantly higher (and moving even higher still) standardized test scores. They pile in to the hardest, most time consuming, most rigorous careers. Excellence excels. Whites could learn from Asians. Blacks could learn from Asians. Everyone should be asking themselves: how do I do better in life? One answer: adopt the Asian way.
