It's 2021 and Nothing Is Unique Anymore Except My Luscious Mutton Chops. In this Schlatt commentary video, Schlatt talks about stuff for a few minutes. Namely, Discord's new Logo. Yes, the Discord Redesign is bad and I don't like Discord's new logo. Discord is a bad company and I Will Never Buy Nitro Stop Asking Me. Even Jambo aka JCat aka Soup doesn't like corporate minimalism. He told me that the other night. Schlatt is upset by how brands ruin their perfectly good logos in favor of boring, lifeless, soulless Sans-Serif Wordmarks and flat design icons.

In college they are being taught to design for stupid people, word for word btw people want to be as generic as possible so they appeal to the widest audience, some brands simplicity really works like mastercard and Nike, sometimes it's less of a rebrand and more of a statement about a brand that are such an icon they don't need their name or as much detail, we are recognisable, we don't need shades or anything Also makes printing on shirts cheaper, and anyone with any sight issues can read helvetica style fonts easier then again discord redesign looks like something I'd hand draw when I was in grade 6 and that's not a joke, it's awful even by generic standards

Honestly now that you bring this up, what if, and this is totally crazy now, they did it so they'd have rights to a dope design that aren't used anymore, and now the companies get to sue over intellectual property against the people who took stuff from their old designs.

@@winsonzhu4427 Mmmm guess its possible., but that could have done that before. And its been going for a while and they're not doing in now. One thing that DID occur to me is that mobile phone companies prefer designs like this because they fit more uniformly into the tight space of a phone screen. So I wonder if this type of branding is pushed on them by companies like Samsung and Apple because their app stores are more important than other phone app stores because they do exclusivity deals for certain content in the the same way streaming services block out competitors by signing exclusivity deals and ensuring they are the only ones with the most high demand content.
