However the season goes, it is now clear to all that Ange's style works. Interestingly, it has worked at Spurs pretty much from the first game - it sometimes takes his teams half a season or so to really find their stride - so maybe he's actually getting better at managing! In any event, once his players "click" and get what it's all about, they become unstoppable. It is utterly fascinating watching him do this in the biggest, most popular league on the planet.

In April Spurs play Newcastle A (on the 13th), City H (20th), Arsenal H (27th), and then Liverpool A (on 4th May). Putting aside that this means they will have had an easier run to this point (so more momentum), these games will probably be Spurs' 37th-41st(ish) of the season. For those 4 CL teams it could be the 50th-57th. That's a lot of extra games to be carrying in your legs going into those games. Even better for Spurs is that this lands right in CL QF/SF schedules. The QF games are played on 9/10 and 16/17 April - so the Newcastle game will be between them, and City will have played midweek before the Spurs game too. Then the SF games are 30/1May and 7/8 May, meaning that Arsenal could be focused on an upcoming SF, and Liverpool will be between the 2 legs. Spurs could be hitting these games, including three 6-pointers against their current nearest challengers, just when those teams are most fatigued and distracted.

I hear a lot of people write of Spurs by saying they don't have a great squad and what happens if they have injuries. They've already had a lot of injuries, the question should really be what happens when those players are back to full fitness? Bentancur is the main one but also Johnson, Gil, Lo Celso as well as Perisic and Sessingnon. People also forget that this is a team that's work in progress. It'd be impressive if Postecoglu had been in charge for a year, to be top with only one window and a few months for players to train with the new manager is something else. There was a lot of impressive stuff tonight but there's a lot of room for improvement too. If they can fix some of the issues it's going to be a very bright future

I shouldn't say it, But I've been a Spurs supporter for over 30 years (I'm 42, and originally a North London boy) and despite knowing I'd never hear the end of it were it to happen, Arsenal are the only club at the moment who I wouldn't mind losing the league to. Both our clubs have rebuilt in an honourable way (little to no oil money. No state ownership) and while Artetas links to Man City/Pep, and the relatively cheap purchases of some City players, shall we say, it raises some eye brows? I still admire the club, if not always the supporters... but no Arsenal supporter has ever spoken to me the way Chelsea supporters have in the past (I was at a minimum of 5 games in the late 80s and early 90s where they had some less than pleasant things to say about our Jewish supporters; gas chamber noises etcetera. I have been to all NLDs apart from 2 in the last 30 years, not once heard anything like that from the Gooners) so if I had to choose one of the big six to lose to, it would be Arsenal. It would have been Newcastle before their shady state ownership deal. But, I no longer respect them; the game is about glory... but what is glory worth when you sell your soul to get it?

As a LFC fan I’m shocked at how much a change they have made losing Kane. Maddison is just putting teams to the sword and has Bissouma behind him letting him play as far forward as he can. The defense has become fast and Bissouma has a new lease on life. A couple seasons ago he was one of the best 6’s in the league. Ange just has them having a go at everyone and Maddison can unlock anyone. Fun to watch.

I was surprised more teams didn't go in for Bissouma and Maddison, Liverpool's midfield was so poor last season and there was talk of Newcastle getting Maddison but nothing happened, I think he comes across as a big head which maybe put teams off but they probably have the best midfield after MC now. My only doubt with them is if they lose him or Son to injury. The battle for top 4 is intriguing though as MC, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle and Liverpool all look strong.

I love the way Spurs are playing. Their schedule has been Charmin soft and Spurs will lose Bissouma, Sarr and Sonny for their respective continental cup tournaments. Yes, Spurs have to beat the opponents who are in front of them. But Spurs do not have the depth to compete for a title. 70-80 points for CL looks to be nailed on, barring a catastrophic injury crisis.

Already suffered some injuries to key squad players. Bentancur has been out since February. Perisic and Solomon are out long term. Sessegnon too. And Johnson was injured. Maddidon and Son have had knocks and so are being regularly protected by taking them off early. I think Ange Postecoglou is a cautious man when it comes to injuries and subs players off early instead of risking them by leaving them on. That will help to mitigate risk of serious injury to others. But yes, if Romero was to get a long term injury, or Son, Maddison or Vicario, then there will be serious problems but in a way there aren’t many teams that can be ok with injuries to their key players.

Hello Rory, nice analysis, after watching your preseason, and reading up Big Ange, i started telling people that we will take the league or come 2nd, and even my fellow spurs fans did not agree with me. I am saying it again, We will win the league, but if we don't add additional 2 or 3 players in jan, then we just might drop to 2nd at the end of the season, because our bench requires a few players added on that fits our new play style.

Squad depth is our greatest challenge at the moment - January has to be an opportunity to strengthen in some key areas. We will inevitably drop off, but what makes me optimistic is how we can win, even when we aren't at our best. As Rory says, this was a perfect game for us to lose. We need 3 top singings in January, Tony, a CB and another decent winger. That, coupled with Bentanucur's return should see us competitive.

For me, he was better than Kane last season. He single handedly held Conte’s ridiculous 2 man midfield together. Being in a midfield trio, with Porro and Udogie providing extra support, will give him so much more freedom.

It's basically one of those things that's too good to be true. That's why it can make you a little bit worried for what's to come. But as a tottenham supporter, I'm just happy we're playing good football!!

I don't thinkwe are as thin as people say. If one of our wingers is injured, we have Richy and Gil off the bench, if son is injured we have richy or Veliz who can go up top, if madders in injured we can slot Lo Celso or Gil there and we've got Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur, Hojberg, and Skipp for CM who are all insane (except skipp who is mid). Only issue is Defence, Right-back is fine with Emerson and Porro, but centre back and Left back are bad we just need a versitile centre back like Tosin Aderabioyo or Guehi who can play LCB or RCB and we can put Van De Ven at Left-back or rely on Sessegnon when he comes back in jan. To put it simply, we just need a centre back every other position is fine.

As a Spurs fan, I think many people are getting too carried away by the team's success. Aston Villa and Newcastle are very good too the moment, especially the work Unai Emery has achieved so far at Villa. Spurs are in a good space but it's a long way to go still. I for sure do not consider Spurs as title contenders for this year, but definitely will be in the top 5 if they can keep the standards consistently over the season. For now let's be grounded and enjoy a game at a time. :)
