I should mention: this is only the case for non-advantage play. Varying bet sizes when counting cards, for example, does affect your expected return. Gonna be makin a vid about card counting after the Buckshot multiplayer analysis 👌 Also: been seeing some ppl comment about simulating particular strategies in certain conditions. May do a quick followup vid covering some of these cases, so drop a comment if there's a particular system/strategy you want to see with particular bet amounts (the more specific the better)
@ssjsqueakАй бұрын
Can you simulate Reverse Labouchère? The initial layout of numbers is your kitty divided up instead of the "win goal". You cross off units when you lose instead of win. You Add the win amount to the end and then generate your next bet by adding the end numbers again. With the 100k kitty you'd probably start with 1k at each end and pyramid them in but keep half your kitty (50k) as the centre digit and never bet it as a kind of "stop loss".
@vking7Ай бұрын
The discussion of total amount bet reminded me of something I saw when I watched a gambling streamer out of boredom and morbid curiosity. I'm not talking about a strategy, however: I'm talking about a situation. The streamer had deals with the casinos he gambled at where he could deposit a large sum and they would match by some multiple, with the caveat that he could not withdraw any funds until he had overall bet a certain amount of money. Let's say the bots get a similar deal (numbers pulled out of thin air, may be too fair or too harsh) - they put 25k in to get matched 75k, and gamble that 100k total until they lose it all or have overall bet 500k.
@PatashuАй бұрын
Besides advantage play, it's also interesting if you're doing gambles with positive expected value (like playing the stock market). Now there's genuine need to balance 'if I bet bigger I earn money faster' with 'if I lose too much money I can't bet big any more'. Default strategy here is called the 'Kelly criterion'.
@nicanornunez9787Ай бұрын
Yes I was thinking in 2. #1 minimum bet, Labouchere, in roulette with plopy 3/2. In the ploppy You bet 3 units to de black and 2 to the third column, the third column only have 4 black numbers, the probability of wining one unity or dollars is 59.4% (black in the first 2 columns or reds in the third column) the probability of wining 2 units is 10.81%, the intersection of black and third column. The probability of losing is 29.73% if I did the calculation correctly 10 reds 1 green OC European roulette. Now I was thinking the unit should be in some proportion to the maximum bet, so the Labouchere don't get to the spot of the maximum bet before a streak of 7L. The earnings are probably close to nothing, don't even worth the time it takes me to go to the casino, something tells me, a little voice, that big numbers will correct that, however I don't think 100k bots would be in the long run a strategy to beat the casino, cause they would be getting banned, and the technology would just evolved eventually. Maybe outsourcing 5k teenage female workers from some apple factory to supervise 100 bots all day all night gambling, with the money flowing to some kind of anonymous society corporation in Panama or Switzerland. That it is probably the only way to make money with that, so why don't you make that simulation.

Amazing stats breakdown. The whole time, I was thinking "how do these betting strategies do anything to change the base odds of the game?" The answer is: they don't! Glad to see my gut was vindicated. Awesome video!
@Matthew-px4vuАй бұрын
The thing is that it isn't actually trivial that these strategies are bad. Look at a fictional game where you have a 50% chance to triple your money. The highest EV play would be to go all in ad nauseum right? But eventually you just bankrupt yourself as you get one unlucky coin toss. This is why looking at EV isn't actually the whole story and you also have to look at the risk of ruin and other factors. Martingale is especially atrocious because if you do the math, for any sufficiently large finite bankroll, you end up only having a 1/e chance of doubling the bankroll (assuming 0% house edge) which is just atrocious because you could just take the whole bankroll at once at put it on red at the start. In reality any game with a negative EV can't be fixed with any betting strategy, so your best bet is to just flat bet a number you're comfortable with unless the EV changes to like even or positive which is can if you count in bj or smth

I was thinking about why Martingale always seems better than it actually is. And it reminded me of a different famous stats experiment: Fake vs Real coin flips. The basic idea goes like this: A stats professor tells two people record 500 coin flips. BUT only one of them is actually flipping a coin. The other is told to just make them up. The stats professor will look at them afterwards and see if he can tell who did the real coin flips and who was making it up. 90+% of the time, the professor can tell who made it up based on the length of streaks. People making it up almost never make up a streak of 7+ heads or tails in a row, because it seems so intuitively unlikely to them. But in reality, if you flip a coin 500 times, it becomes a near certainty you're going to have at least one streak of 7+, and usually multiple. Same with Martingale. People think it's foolproof because losing 7 in a row seems so unlikely. But if you're playing 1000 runs, it becomes a near certainty.
@delightfulkissboy8926Ай бұрын
That's actually really clever, I like that experiment. Similar thing when you ask someone to think of a "random" number in a range

I remember as a kid playing a game called "Four Corners". We would all get in the middle of a large room (e.g. gym), and one guy would close his eyes, start counting down from 20, and we all run to a corner. After the guy finished counting, he calls a corner, and everyone there's out. Last one standing goes to the middle (round is repeated if there is a tie that gets everyone out) One trick I figured is that most people NEVER call the same corner twice, so I would just go to the last corner called, and I would never get picked out.

42:35 good summary. If you can't help yourself and feel the need to gamble, no matter what you do you will not be able to avoid the house edge, so your expectation value will always be negative. But at least keep the variance as high as possible so that you give yourself as much chance as possible to gain money in the short term. For example when you play Roulette, don't bet on different possibilities that exclude each other, like reds and evens for example. In case you got lucky and won in the short run, grab the money and never come back.

Card counting, if done properly (and that’s the key part) actually does mathematically give you an edge over the casino…which is why casinos will ban you from playing blackjack if they suspect you to be card counting.
@walugusgrudenburg3068Ай бұрын
It does, when done perfectly, on a standard payout (some are lower) blackjack table, give you a mathematical edge. But all casinos have the ability to kick you out at any time, and will make use of that right if they suspect you're doing it. (otherwise they'd all be bankrupt)

The person after you can call you a liar, and if any of the cards you put down aren't the card of the round you have to do one shot of russian roulette. After someone does a round, the cards are reshuffled, redistributed, the card of the round is rerolled, and it starts again.
