On my last trip to our property in Oklahoma I bought a second circular saw to use up there. I did not know they came with the blade mounted on both the left and right side. I'll quickly go over why that affected me on the bench build and some of the reasons to consider either orientation.

I am a right handed builder and only use blade right saws for EVERYTHING. You either watch your line through the sight window on left or the front marks or down right side of blade .99% of saws sold are blade right for many reasons ,the dust is blown away from you , you can make bevel mitre cuts on long point whiost holding timber with left hand ,most of the footplate is supported on desired timber, they are safer etc.I have been accurately cutting everything for over 30 years with bkade right saws.

Thank you. Since posting the video I had a bit more of a chance to use both and have found there are just different scenarios where each is easier to use so I ended happy with having both.

Also since the blade is on the right there's less chance you will cut yourself from kick backs from what I researched.

You can do the same with the blade left; just start from the other end of the board

As a right handed individual I think it's actually the opposite for me, right bladed saw is better when cutting things like 2x material with a speed square, and a left is better when ripping plywood, operating the tool with my right hand moving right to left. You can use either for pretty much anything I just don't like riding the waste edge while cutting for stability reasons.

Haha to be honest, when I started using the saw (and again, it's one of those things I didn't even know to pay attention to), I thought I bought a left handed saw. Not till I did some digging into later did I even realize they just make two different ones. I can imagine for a left handed person things are a bit different than what I described.

I have and use both. Generaly the technical aspects of the saw a d job determine what saw I use. Overhead i use a light saw 6.5 inch left blade. All of my corded saws are right blade, tons of power 7 1/4 and 8 1/2 i dont use them on boat docks though. New worm drive left blade rear handle feels weird but tons of power for deep cuts in wet pressure treated wood. Each have their place, right or left.

Motor should be on the larger, anchored piece of wood. The material you are cutting can change orientation. Make a vid about crown moulding and you'll see.

I used both but when I started using worm drive and rear handle saw I will never go back to having a blade right aaw trying to look over my right shoulder.

You don’t have to look over the damn saw! My pops does this, all you have to do is line your cut mark with the zero line on the saw and cut! Also pull the blade guard up when you going in on crazy angles. If I’m cutting rafters I just wedge the blade guard up for the day.

@@kickyourfaceandlaugh607 I get you bro but I fell for blade left, it feels natural with my hand to the right blade to the left. The base plate on my saw is never locked for plunge cutting. Blade left & just never looked back.

Your trigger lockout button seems to be accessible from both sides of the handle on both saws. This indicates to me that they were meant to be used ambidextrously. Buy what meets your needs and preferences safely and do not concern yourself with the experts. That is the Y in DIY.

Why don't they call these saws "Left-handed or Right -handed" so people have a friggin clue. Rather than saying " Left blade vs Right blade". I just found this out today, December 2023, and I've been using a right blade for 20 years and wondered why I suck! People are buying these without knowing and for some reason, the shelves in stores are packed with right side blades and a couple left side blades. I know a lot of guys that have worked on things most of their lives and they never heard about this until I told them. I'm right handed and I just looked at a Makita left blade, heavy -assed saw and it's nickname is Southpaw in the description. A southpaw is a left-handed person. They've got to straighten this out for consumers. Were carpenters mostly left-handed back in the day? I have a powerful Porter Cable right side blade saw that I will gladly trade for a left blade. I'm glad you posted this. Great video! 😊

Actually, its just what you got used to with the left blade. There is no right or wrong, just personal preference. Im right handed and use only rHB
