This cleaver is as old as I am, maybe a little older. She dragged herself everywhere, from the kitchen, then she was outside with some waste material, then has been in the workshop for the last half year, waiting for my good will. I decided to make a kitchen knife, similar in appearance to the "Serbian chef's knife".
I first cleaned the knife of rust, then cut with a grinder and sanded to the desired geometry of the knife. Since I used a sander and then sanded more intensively, I stained the knife because I overheated it by sanding and thus fired it.
I used a piece of oak for the handle and secured it with brass pins. I didn't want to polish the knife too much, I polished the cutting edge nicely, while I left that rustic look to the rest of the knife.
