I respect the fact that you show no fear in taking on a very difficult, challenging job. Jump in and do the best you can.

This was such a useful video to come across. I purchased a salvage car at auction, and 1 side is a real mess but not structural, worse than this, the other has a few dents that I felt like I could pull myself. My plan was to get 'proper professionals' to do the big stuff while I do the lesser stuff, but none of the 'proper professionals' near me will touch even part of it. I have had the car inspected, I know that it's fixable, I know that I am going to have to pay for some new parts but seeing this, I think maybe I should have a see at what can be salvaged. The car is a wedding present for my wife to be, and the best that I can afford. It doesn't have to be perfect, it has to be good enough, because other than the body work, it's a brand new car! If I make a video about it I will have to let you know, and tag you in. Thanks to you and all the other PDR channels for all the advice and showing what can be achieved.

@Petersondent - Do you have a part 2 to this video? Very curious to see how you tackled the rest of this job.
@Petersondent Жыл бұрын
no, unfortunately, the car went away, and I never saw it again. I was told that he sold it. I offered to work on it more to see how far we can get it but it kind of disappeared. Thanks for watching and commenting. This one was just, kind of a testing the limits video for PDR

Bravo! I am encouraged to see you tackle that awful dent job. What things we do for friends. I have a driver door I'm pulling at the moment. Tapping down crowns first then start w glue tabs. I wonder at one point do you just conclude to go via inside panel? 27yrs in industry .great work.

lesson should also be for manufacturers of those expensive pull hammers: there's no need to let overexposed sharp metal edges which are not functional to the tool purpose, they could be rounded and the very tip of the hammer could also be rubberized

not really on this one. This was more about moving as much metal as we could with the glue initially. It was all just a crazy limit test. I would never take a job this bad on. Thanks so much for watching. Please check out some other of my videos.👍

How does the alcohol work in removing the glue? Does it actually dissolve or soften it or just get in behind the glue to the interface with the paint to allow it to be separated?
@Petersondent Жыл бұрын
thanks for watching and commenting the alcohol just breaks the bond with the paint it doesn't actually dissolve the glue. I think it's all formulated so that it works like that. Also, the alcohol we use is 99% is 70% stuff just doesn't work that well.
@sadfur8728 Жыл бұрын
@@Petersondent I have the pure stuff available at work, so I'll try some of that. I was just curious how it was supposed to work; I guess it just needs to seep into the edges to break the bond.
@grandsea2 Жыл бұрын
@@Petersondent(disclaimer I'm not a chemist or even a pdr tech so this is what makes sense to me based on my life/work experience and knowledge so take this with that in mind, as I may be filling myself and you full of b.s. and I am equally curious on what others will comment to my comment) it doesn't break it down per sé it reactivates the glue's bonding agents on glues surface and fills in the holes between the particles of the glue and paint surface on a molecular level...acting as a lubricant, then as the alcohol evaporates away the reactivated bonding agent deactivates causing it to no longer be sticky...all this happens very quickly, especially if the impact hammer or pulling pressure caused microfractures in the bonding agents hence glued tabs that were not pulled or really large pads or tabs (like the ones used to provide side tension on a panel) may need to be pulled a little and re-sprayed to allow the alcohol into the deeper areas it couldn't access before evaporating...one of the few downsides to heating the panel...

I just did a repair on a 2016 chrysler 200 just like that, only I finished the dents. Lateral tension was my friend on this one.

Seems like taping the head to the slide hammer would be a good precaution if doing so many repetitive pulls in that rapid fire fashion.

You Will never pop out dents Like those, because there is no room for the metal to go to, since it is stretched. You need lateral tension.
