As a big bob person I'd say this will make your chest appear smaller but definitely not flat. If you had some sort of cushioning that would push the breasts outwards, this would also make the garment flush rather than betraying the curves of the breasts. If you wanted to get really advanced maybe a kind of wire frame? That would hold everything in place and create space between the chest and garment

I'm a larger busted woman and I found that the way a rebozo wraps around the upper body to carry a baby or small child on your back is perfect for supporting and possibly somewhat flattening the bosom - without having to wear a small person on your back. The wrap pattern is very comfortable, supports the bosom and -Amazingly- keeps the girls from flopping around when you run or jump. It's made using cotton fabric cut slightly on the bias, and wraps around the body numerous times (at least 2 to 4) over your clothes, but can tied in front or back. I am trying it out as an undergarment using a lot less fabric than what is needed to carry littles on your back. I am trying to figure out an easy to wear bra based on the rebozo wrap. Available regular and specialty bras have way too much elastic, padding, underwires and provide no comfortable support and sports bras offer absolutely no support unless you want to fight more elastic. And even then, the girls flop like dying fish out of water. While a regular rebozo will make the thorax (upper body) appear thicker, It is so comfortable that I, for one, don't care. COMFORT OVER FASHION!

Thank you, this is super useful info! Is there a specific tying technique that you prefer?
@pamwaldron3504
@pamwaldron3504 7 ай бұрын
As far as technique, I just Google rebozo and tried different ways. I prefer to start in the front, pass in back, then do the "cross your heart" in front a couple of times, one more pass around the ribs then tie and tuck loose ends under the rib band. You'll probably want a narrower and shorter wrap since you're not carrying anyone or anything in the wrap. So far, I have decided I'll need to hand-sew one on place after wrapping and cut either the front or back, but making the closure after and getting it to fit comfortably without using elastic is a challenge. Plus, I'll need help sewing the back in place while it's on. What I like best about the wrap is my girls are comfortably supported and separated, and I don't get a uniboob like I do with commercially made bras. And there's no need to mutilate your body.

This reminds me of a pattern that has 'sling supports' which some people who make it adjust or leave off because it can flatten especially with compression stretch fabric. It's Muna and Broad's Banksia Bralette pattern.

Wait… this is so clever! The way undergarments worked in the 1800s or whatever was to combine both padding and tightening to get the right silhouette. Therefore, it makes sense that a binder should pad out areas that give a more “masculine” silhouette as well as reducing the visual appearance of the chest

One thing that's kinda underrated is just wearing some sort of undershirt with your binders (and corsets). Historically people would always wear an extra layer underneath corsetry and other undergarments that had boning in them to make them more comfortable and wearable for long amounts of time with less chafing ^^ might help with any comfort issues you're having with this project, but i haven't tested it myself so take that with a grain of salt

Honestly as someone from Florida I just recently started doing this and it is a game changer. I only did this because I remember my ancestors did for work clothing and of course historical fashion. I put terry cloth between any folds because as a nurse I’ve seen a lot of unfortunate skin infections but seriously, under layers are a game changer.

For anyone with access to an H&M store - they occasionally sell proper binders. If they currently don't, they have a sports bra that is the best binder I have ever seen. For anyone curious, DryMove collection, one colour, simple cut, has three small seams down the front, following that same boning structure idea. The problem with compression binders is that breathing is kinda nice, and if you're bigger chested, it pushes them down and can be painful. Any sort of bra or sportsbra that lifts them up usually makes them bigger, not smaller. That one specific bra from H&M does exactly what you described. Up, and to the side/spread out in general. Hella comfortable to wear all day long for any kind of activity. They do have removable padding, but it's incredibly thin and you can just take it out. No visible nip slip, which I appreciate. Suitable for bigger chested fellas, for maximum effect, I suggest going down one size and getting some of those bra extension hook thingies to give you more width for your ribs. They're affordable (10-20 bucks) and frequently on sale for half the price when they drop new colours. Considerably improved my mental health, finding proper de-tittyfiers was fairly life changing. 🥲🏳️‍⚧️

im just interested in sewing in general, so here are some tips for larger chested binder-curious sewists: You will need to lengthen the boning in the front. since there is a larged mass prodtruding forward, you will need a longer line to connect visually from apex to bottom of rib. in addition, youll need a thicker band or even a tankini top to help smooth the side and back lines. i would also suggest making it slightly tighter towards the top so the mass is smooshed down. last tip, add a few more boning channels and keep them more vertical to compress, ray pattern will compress but also push UP for larger mass.

Fyi you can use zip ties with the ends cut off for boning! it's what my mom uses, she's a sewingtist that works in mostly renaissance styles. Also, I would KILL to have a window placed like that. Also suggestion for boning poking through- victorians would wear slips over their corsets to hide any boning or unsightly edges from poking through clothing.

This is very much what I decided to switch to a while ago. I was inspired watching some of Bernadette Banner’s videos on older fashions and how they actually achieved a lot of body shapes not by squishing things in, but rather padding things out. The Edwardian style in particular helped me figure out how to remove the shape of having two lumps on your chest, instead making across the chest and from the shoulders to the belly one more continuous smooth shape. Also, “Oh these? These are just my vertical ribs. What direction do your go in?”

A cis woman here. (don't ask me why I'm here, it's like watching pet advise videos despite never wanting to own the pet. It's just interesting. But also I kinda like cosplaying male characters, so it might come in handy) I just had a huge realization and flashback to when I was younger and still went to school, when you spoke about the fatique thing. I remembered wearing too tight bras because I had it hammered into my head, that I need them to shape my boobs and my parents didn't have enough money to always buy new ones when I grew. After a long school day I often felt so dizzy and fatiqued, because I struggled to breath. Sometimes I secretly opened my bra, when it got too much. I often jumped in joy when the disgusting metal piece underneath the polsters finally pierced the fabric and I could just pull it out. They hurt so much. Finally some years ago my parents found a really cheap pack of sports bras and I WAS SO RELIEVED. They didn't bother me after a long day. But I still like to not wear a bra at all when at home. To sum it up, I have huge respect for you to try to solve your problem with your skill and even help others with the same problem. I'm sure you can improve the small flaws in the design soon. Good luck!

Honestly as someone with bigger chest the compression binders have been difficult due to their small arm holes and almost a pancaking of a rather large fatty mass 😅 it’s looks very unnatural and clear you are a trans man or other person who is binding large tissue so I feel like boning would solve many of those issues! Plus they even have corset covers to help smooth out the boning bumps or internal boning. I love your idea of using boning and stays as an inspiration! I love historical fashions and honestly it reminds me of the silloutte padding and menswear corsets of Dandies or even some of the tight Jerkins of the Tudor period that who were often made fun of for their vanity but clearly were common practice in garments that remain. It’s lovely! ❤quite creative and a good solution!

I love the idea of a binder that relies more on built in structure than compression to provide the desired silhouette! Another historically based idea: padding out areas? Padding has historically been used along side boning and compression to change perceived body shape. I'm sure a clever and creative person that is more textile inclined than I might be able to incorporate that into a binder! I am quite lucky to have already had top surgery, but I absolutely love this video. Cheers!

Honestly that’s what I do. I actually have done it for my Dad for a long time and he helped and suggested stuff for me because while as a trans guy I’m actually a bigger weight class and almost taller than him I transitioned more recently (I’m almost 30 😅) so obviously quite past my puberty and ended up becoming quite curvy like my Vietnamese grandmother (idk WHAT she got going on but she built like a BADDIE lmao 😂) which is cool but obviously as a trans man a little ackward clothing wise 😅 so my Dad is very helpful. I mean he is too. My moms ass look like she got hit real hard with the door on the way out it 🤣 I definitely got stacked in the back from my Dads side. Anyways, so he has had to use and have me assist in adding padding and etc to help him disguise some of his really bad scars and injuries from a bad accident he had from poking out and just general better fitting/silhouette.

As an enby myself, I personally don't need top surgery as I don't particularly *hate* my body, I just don't like for other people to see it. I like to present as androgynous or genderless, but there are big issues with both my body and my face. I also can't cut my hair short because I look really feminine with very short hair when my face is fully exposed. Anyway, none of this is exactly relevant to you, but I want to wish you luck on self discovery and fulfillment, and I do hope you can find what works best for you ❤.

I have seen some quite big breasts tamed to near-invisibility by 18th century stays, so this is DEFINITELY viable for different chest sizes! Compression is less of an issue than location and elasticity- corsets can compress a LOT, but it’s distributed over the entire ribcage, and because they’re not elastic there’s significantly less compression when you exhale. I can tightlace and still be fairly active and comfortable for many hours, but just layering sports bras for a flatter chest feels like I’m being strangled

Any recommendations for people who make such shifts. I'm cis with a larger chest than I would like to have most days. Because of proportions it has just become about impossible to find bras that are comfortable and give a nice shape.

This is so cool to see. I do historical costuming and most of the Victorian/Edwardian eras were about building up the body to the shape YOU want. And it makes me so happy to see that being used in a modern capacity here! To hide the boning in a lot of corsetry they would use 'corset covers' which often had frills to puff out the chest and conceal, howeverrr I imagine one could use a slim-fitting tank top (like a sportswear one, that fits real snug and smooth but doesn't compress) to help hide the boning in outer layers! Great, funny, and informative video! It warms my heart to see how you used historical dress to fit a modern need
@mirabellegoldapfel6256
@mirabellegoldapfel6256 7 ай бұрын
Yes, a corset cover-like undergarment is my idea as well. But I'd rather use an undershirt made out of a woven material (a tube with straps is enough) instead of a modern sports undershirt. Jersey as used in most modern shirts is just so elastic due to it being knitted and form fitting. Woven undergarments act more like a slip dress and cling to your outer layers instead of your body. Ikeas humble and cheap unbleached bomull cotton works for that or even better linen for added sweat and smell protection (linen is kinda magic). Great pillowcase project, too.

Dorian, with your next chest support garment you might try to put pieces of wool felt between the boning, so you erase the depression between the channels. then you could even use another piece of wool felt over the top, and then cover with your cotton-- think about how bulletproof vests are made. You achieved the silhouette you wanted, now you just have to hide the tools. You did a great job!
@asterismos5451
@asterismos5451 6 ай бұрын
I'd wear something similar to a corset cover instead, it's way lighter and allows you to wear this in more seasons comfortably. Plus this doesn't do anything to help hide the edges of the garment. I use an old button-up I've cut to the shape of an undershirt; it's light and adds a bit of extra volume under my t-shirts to obscure the lines of my stays. It's a fairly tight-fitting one to start with but not as much as a knit undershirt would be.

I'm not trans, and i watched the video bc KZbin reccomended me, and I'm a oversharer that has a lot to relate to people wanting to get rid of chest, so I'm here to just overshare. 😂 First of all i loved the video and I'm glad that i didn't ignored this recomendation. About the boning sticking out. Have you tried turning just this top part a little bit inwards with heat? I don't know if this would work, but it's what i would try. So... These "stays-like" things fuckin saved my life, my boobs are GIANORMUS, my ribs to chest measurements are over 20cm apart and i have back problems, so finding something that supports my chest don't make my arms purple nor let my chest touch my ribs during hot days was impossible. I tryed even self drafted bras that definitely helped a lot, but still were painful as hell. Then one day i made a "corset/stays" (whatever you want to call it, it's historically inaccurate anyways) just for style and accidentally found peace, once it doesn't stretch out at all in any way i can just compress the hell out of my chest, it looks a lot smaller (wich i love, bc i hate people looks at my cleavage on the streets) i can regulate how much it will compress at anytime bc of the lacing, the weight is distributed more evenly and i barely feel it on my shoulders bc of the amount of compression and support the garment has...It's just fuckin perfect and with the right adjustments on the pattern it could very much completely disappear with a chest from a person with a regular to small sized breast. My whole mission in life now is to spread the word of these renfaire stays/corset/whatever you want to call it. Seriously it's so easy to sew, there's bunch of sites that sells the pattern (i bought mine and adjusted to my needs) and even if you don't trust yourself to sew one entirely, you can buy one at a renfaire and adjust it really easily.

It sounds silly but I think if you crochet/knit a stretchy tube top (think like the 90's sort of style) then wear that over top of your bone binder, I think it might hide those markings P: I've crocheted a few bra/binders out of normal acrylic yarn and it's surprisingly comfy and good for flattening your chest out :) Just keep in mind it'll make you rather hot, since it is yarn X'D *edit:* KZbin glitched and won't let me reply, so I'm gonna write this here: I would crochet a rectangular piece (like you're making a scarf) that just barely goes around your chest. I'd make it so it *just* meets in the front with the ends barely touching. You want it wide enough to cover your belotheds and to reach halfway between them and your belly button. That should help give the flat illusion I think. Then, crochet a chain/string and go over it so it's a little thick. You can then thread this through the 'scarf' ends and you have a crochet corset :) You can reinforce the ends of the corset/chest piece by crocheting over the ends of the corset tightly but *ONLY* on the ends where they meet at the front of your chest, as you still want the rest to have a little stretch (we're making this to be comfortable after all) This is just off the top of my head. I'm actually crocheting my idea out now to double check it'll work but I think this should make a comfortable binder :)

If you aren’t in a situation where you think that will happen, you only have to go until you’re ~18 before you can really be yourself. Try to get as many LGBT+ friends as you can & find spaces where you can start being yourself. Have a good day/night, & stay strong, because you aren’t alone 🩷🤍💜🖤💙

This is such a good idea! I actually bought one of those bodices to wear as a sports bra/low key binder. It works pretty well. For a bigger chest, using more study fabrics might help give it more compression/structure. One of the bodices I wear is single layer cotton. It's lightweight, but doesn't flatten much without lacing tighter. The other one I wear a lot is upholstery fabric and a canvas or duck type fabric. This one gets much flatter even with looser lacing. It takes DDDs down to nice pecs. Maybe the big chest dream combo is softer cotton with a layer of duck between? Going to have to experiment.

You're a genius, it looks great! If you (or anyone else) want to make the boning less visible, I think another layer may help. In Victorian times they had 'corset covers'. I think that a tank top of a thick, woven fabric like linen or cotton canvas could help smoothe out the boning lines and make it look like you're just a very fancy dude who cares about layering :)
