For the light to pass through to the cross, I would recommend maybe use right sized transparent tubing from the base upwards (INSIDE) of the cat to the roof of the inside. This will allow the light to pass through all the way.

Thanks for the idea. That was actually my initial thought process, which is why I filled everything with transparent resin. But the air bubbles and stuff in there made it not work at all. I'd probably have to use acrylic rods.
