There´s this 80/20 therory that says: When working on any kind of project, you complete about 80% of the work in about 20% of the time. The longer you work on a project, the more details are goonna be included but the effort increases drastically. I am currently building 10 book-themed dioramas for our local school libraries, and am limiting myself to about 20 hrs per diorama to finish on time. I constantly feel the urge to put just a "little" more time to add all of the little details that I love, but have to stay disciplined and content with the 20 hr level of detail that time allows. Honestly, they all look apart of the same village. As we've seen replicated throughout films, the ideal village would have included all 3 for 3 different classes. The 1hr is where the "poor" people would live on the outskirts of town away from society; those who work their butts off with next to no pay and seen as blight on society- possibly even the town drunk. The 10 hr would be in the actual village or extremely close to it along a well travelled path. It's where people would live in the back or upstairs while the majority of the structure was a shop of some kind: all the towns people enjoy their company and they help everyone - even the town drunk. The 100 hr is the mayors home, he can only afford such opulence because he steals from everyone "below" him but he boosts about his home as if he's earned it. Watching you sparks my desire to get crafting! I love it, be proud of all 3. You've built yourself a village!!

For a super fast basecoat, you could use spray paint + fat cap (or chisel/calligraphy cap). The '94' spray cans by MTN (Montana Colors) are low pressure - VERY controllable - and with a fat cap on it, it's basically an airbrush... that requires 1min shaking to prep, and that dries in 2 mins. Within 10 mins, you can cover everything in 3 super thin layers and have it dry so you can move on to hand painting :) The 94 range has like 216 (I believe more now, actually) super nice matt colors, including some fluorescents, AND... (More importantly).. Some half transparant colors: "shadow black", "shadow grey" and "air white". With those you can very easily 'mist' some highlights on your piece, or add some depth. The 94 range is something like nitro-acrylic paint. They also have a range of matt water based spray paints (that you can use indoors - very much aimed at artists) Oh, and they have some cool 'texture paints'... Definitely worth checking out, I think. Takes some practise, but you can do very fine work with those spray cans (and all the colors are amazing.. There's like 24 different grey colors - light, dark, warm, cold, etc)

When Bjorn first reached the meadow, he was struck by the beauty of the surrounding lands as well as the obvious richness of the soil. He packed up his family, and they moved there the next year. Living at first in a large tent, Bjorn and his three strong sons quickly felled some trees and soon had a small but cozy wooden structure that helped the family live through the next winter. At first pale in color, the small house soon turned black from the pitch that was used to weatherproof the still-porous fresh wood used in its construction. After a few years, the family continued to grow in both numbers and wealth, and Bjorn was proud to sit at the head of the table in the wood-framed house his grandchildren had helped construct, where he himself had placed the last stones in the chimney. The small black house was just a few meters away, and the family kept it in good repair and used it as a storehouse and barn. As time passed, the rich earth (tilled by plows kept in the small black shed) produced bumper crop after bumper crop, providing nourishment for the many dozens of family members as well as the rest of the small village that had begun to form around their land. Just two generations after Bjorn's body had been buried beneath the earth he had so loved, the family was powerful and wealthy enough to have a much larger home built, this time mostly from stone. The edifice towered over the nearby structures and further added to the family wealth with the highly successful ale-house on its ground floor....while the smaller wood-frame house continued to be used by one branch of Bjorn's descendants (by this time many had moved away in search of new fortunes or to help grow the family's trading empire) as a traditional gift from the family to the eldest son of each generation upon his marriage. All through the years, the family remembered their roots, and the small black shed that had been their first toehold on the land was kept in good repair, serving both as a reminder of their humble roots and as a safe place to store sacks of grain and jugs of wine for the winter.

Could you do a diarama with cheap tools and expensive tools? I want to see if the expensive tools are better :)
@ThatRobHuman2 жыл бұрын
Advanced tooling really only optimizes time. In the great majority of cases, you can get the same result without the expensive tools if you spend more time on it. Some of that saved time does manifest as higher quality, but the tools rarely make the project *possible*, just make a project take less time.

Even the 1 hour-house is amazing, I would never have been able to do it like this!

ive had this really bad case of art block for the lonGEST time now, like literally years, and i literally found your channel by accident last night, but your videos and art style (mine is v similar) have helped me start again and im already feeling so much better

The one hour looks like it would be a really great outhouse for the other two houses. I mean that in the best way possible of course. Great job .

It's always amazing how much of a difference drybrushing can make. Have you ever played a Sims legacy? Where the family stays on the same lot but keeps on building as they earn more money? That's what those three houses look like. Would love to know, how much the three houses differ in weight as well.

I've been binging your videos for 3 hours straight completely entranced and only just now noticed your missing finger. I feel like that's somehow a testament to your skill and craft? xD You're an incredible artist and I'm so inspired right now, thank you for sharing all these beautiful things with us.

I had never noticed that before. I've binge watched all of their videos in the last couple of weeks, and just noticed it after this comment.

Looking at that 100 hour house reminds me of the ink drawing I'm currently making. You should make your diorama version of the Burrow (the Weasley family house) my version has base of an english cottage with a new extension for every child i would love to see what you could make.

Awesome result! With such dioramas, what I often regret about is that display light. Great for appreciating every single detail, yet I'd love to see this house in a more natural environment. It would add more magic and let us admire this peace even more! Dreaming of seeing the Tardis, with your skills and approach, it would be mindblowing!

she’s definitely not a procrastinator, she seems to do hours of work in one day. i could never, any 100 hours project would take six months for me to do it. if i didn’t decide to give up halfway through 😬

This is one of the best videos yet!!!! It's what every maker should show their potential clients so that they know what IS the difference between "rushed" and "we've got time" jobs are like. And how much forethought, time, and just assembly time is needed to make a most excellent creation!! Thank you for this!!

I’m very impressed by ear book building videos, I don’t know why I just find it intriguing. Have you ever done end painting on them?
@recoveringsoul7552 жыл бұрын
Ummmm, what is "ear book" and "end painting"?
@K1rmcc2 жыл бұрын
@@recoveringsoul755 ear = your, And painting is one of the paint things on the end of the end of the pages, it was done in medieval time and it’s having a come back recently. I don’t know why spellcheck changes my words at the last minute. Sorry.
@recoveringsoul7552 жыл бұрын
@@K1rmcc I hate spell check. It keeps changing words on me too. Changes Glue to Your very commonly. If it just left the letters I typed it would be easier to proofread, but it makes up words and sometimes i can't remember what I meant to type. I try to proof everything before posting and still mess up. I like the old fashioned books with the really ornate and colorful first letter of a page or chapter. I think they're called ornaments. Not sure I'm familiar with the painting at the end of a book

I've been saving this until I had a chunk of time to enjoy it. An hour goes buy so very quickly; I never quite manage as much as I expect or want to in an hour, but that 10 hour house was, as you said, great value for the time. The 100 hour project was spectacular; especially all the added miniatures and extra details. That's a keepsake, the other is for play, I would think, and the 1-hour version is the one you blow up in a mock fantasy battle!

This is a great idea. My kids are always so disappointed that their projects don't turn out well when they tush through them. This is a great way to show them the value of taking time to complete things!

The 1 hour one isn't all that bad. It would make a fine set-piece for a program with scary stories. It could be called "Spooky Tales ... from the Haunted Outhouse!!!" (cue evil cackle here)

the 1 and 10 hour pieces i'd be comfortable using them as wargaming or ttrpg pieces, but the the 100 hour one is very much a 'look, don't touch!' piece all in all, a really great challenge video. thanks nerdforge!
