This may be able to get rolled back. That is a major oversight by the dev team. They have already made it clear that snapshots of characters/stashes do exist due to the hc death deleting softcore stash bug.

Controller support in this game is tragically bad, especially in the UI but also with targeted abilities and other common interactions. Needs a LOT of work, like *REWORK* not just little bug fixes. Should not have a cursor at all for controller imo

The problem is not exactly that. For example, its easy to do such thing as "type character name", you type it, and then it deletes the character you selected via mouse. Shitty UI is a problem. Not the thing you need to do the deletion, but actually how deletion happens. You supposed to choose character to be deleted _first_ and confirm deletion _after_ If you can change your choice _before_ confirming or rejecting it, UI doing it wrong.

Diablo 4 content is hugely lacking and progression is kindergarten level, but their UI and controls are pretty good imo. Just small tweaks were needed like WASD and horse speed stuff.

That's a UI design flaw, the devs should see this. Your choice should be locked in when that confirm window is up. The window should also display the characters name that's being deleted, not just say "This character".

Yeah they need to block the screen, have you input a captcha, type your characters name, ask you 3 times if you want to delete the character, and then maybe people will pay attention to destructive actions. It's the reason why coffee cups say "Warning: Hot"

The UI doesn't handle layers well in its current state. So many times it allows you to click through the active window to the underlying layer. You can see it all the time when you are in the crafting menu or allocating skill points and you notice it's also making your character move around in the background.

mosstttt games dont store deleted characters, they 100% should in these cases for the case of disbuting an action. maybe for like a week or so but they are so eager to free up space.

That's not a "mistake" on your behalf. This can't be intended. They even purposely grey out the background when that "Are you sure you want to delete" message pops up. There's absolutely no way this was designed like this on purpose, it's an oversight, and I hope they're able to help you get your character back but I'd imagine that would be hard if not impossible. Thanks for bringing awareness to it so it doesn't happen to others, but, yeah-- not a "mistake". You got screwed over by a fairly bad glitch.

That is likely a side effect of the mouse tracking that I found rather annoying and suspicious for some time now: It tracks the mouse even when tabbed out and behind other windows and also in-game when there are menus open that normally would be considered modal. I find little things like that pretty annoying and would work on them out of principle, even before my 30 years of software development. But I didn't even think of a worse case like this. This really hurt watching. Aside from fixing the mouse tracking they NEED a safety mechanism like typing in the character name for deletion.

If you love storm totem, grab some druid levels for spriggan form, pick up the talents in spriggan form that drop 3 healing totems at once, and add your thorns totem abilities to your healing totems. Now you just run around in your tree-man state, dropping triplets of thorn/healing totems everywhere. Get the thorns totem talents that turn them into single-shot, add pierce, and raise damage. This build has been called the "walking simulator" because you just walk through levels dropping totems without a care. I hope you try it out, I used that build from 1-85 and it's still clearing empowered monoliths without much effort.

LE has a number of interrelated UI and input handling issues. Most of my experience making this stuff is in Game Maker and Godot engine, but I worked in Unity years ago, too. This kind of thing can be one hell of a development headache until you really get a solid set of conventions for handling it nailed down. Most likely for LE is that one or two people max are responsible for these parts and they are chasing issues rather than being willing to refactor the main problems. Which is perfectly understandable when you have a project of this size and the necessary refactor could cause lots of other stuff to just stop working or have other side-effects. It's a crappy situation to be in and I don't envy them, but they should bite the bullet and fix it as soon as opportunity presents itself. This kind of thing always has a lot of undiscovered mayhem it can cause, and it's not worth letting it exist any longer than you absolutely have to. You don't leave input/UI bugs to chance if you can help it. Superficially, they are often the first negative experience someone will have with your game; setting the tone for the rest of their time spent. More deeply, they are a source of unpredictability such that detecting them usually requires a live testing environment. This is because the permutations can rapidly bloom to a number that can't easily be unit-tested. I've learned to set priority for fixing such bugs very high, as a result. Not just that, but my fixes for these kinds of issues are among the most likely to become large refactors that ensure a reduction in uncertainty. Lots of developers leave these things for later or only make the quick fix that solves the one use-case, because they are making a judgment based only on the observed impact at the time of reporting. They don't ignore that future problems can arise. Far from it. It's just that those future problems don't seem as important as they may turn out to be. It's human nature to treat consequences as less severe the further into the future they appear to be.

You can click through menus. In game I'll be sorting inventory, and it'll make me start running. Because sometimes it'll click through to the floor. Or while I'm changing bars... It can click through and select a person and open their character options. It's annoying

So, I've done this, they needs a "lock Character" option per Character or a "type name to delete" option. The locking Character is preferred just so you don't have to type out anything if you're trying to delete quickly.

Oh that's BS. They need to fix the UI. First off it shouldn't switch while the confirmation window is up, and secondly the confirmation shouldn't say "This character", it should say the name. A lot of games even make you type the character's name to be extra sure you know what you're doing.
