Outta gas!! Great story!! Doesn't everyone have an 'outta gas' story? My personal best/worst outta gas story was when I forgot to fuel up my company car and drove it for miles on deserted roads in the boonies without realizing the tank was near empty. Then, at the first little town I came through, the car quit only two blocks from a gas station!

Matt, you ought to have bumper or side brackets mounted to the Morrvair, Banana and Blue Steel to carry along a couple of steel Blitz gas cans along when needed. Many off road jeeps riding around in my area have them on them. Also a satellite phone would be a good thing to own in your line of business since you are so often working out of cell phone range.

In Matt's defense, I use to fill up when my gas gauge read about a quarter tank left. After watching Matt run out of gas REPEATEDLY, I now never let the gas gauge dip below half a tank! Thank you Matt for being the bad example of what we should avoid being like! As often as Matt runs out of gas, you would think he would carry extra gas just to keep from needing to be rescued! We can all arm chair quarterback on what should have been done. Part of Matt’s problem is so many different people driving these vehicles and not one person probably responsible to make sure all the rigs have full tanks, all the rigs have proper rescue ropes shackles, etc. Matt and his crew have, for the most part, amazing skills at getting vehicles out of very bad, dangerous situations that others have gotten into. So not being totally, anally organized just isn’t a strong suit. But what is more important is how many folks helped out other folks in this video. I count at least 5 groups that went above and beyond to help another human being out of a jam. Including the Union Pacific rail road. That is wonderful. If you won't or forget to fill the tank in the vehicle then what makes you think he'll keep the containers filled, this begs the question as to what if these were electric vehicles and say both ran out of charge, that's another reason they're not for everybody, ev trucks especially would not be able to do these jobs, you would need to carry a sizable generator just in case then wait a day until it's charged up again.

Boss mode Idea, if all the staff are pumping fuel from the yard too, it could work out a viable option to get the tank installed and setting up a bulk delivery account and everyone will be getting fuel slightly cheaper then they do at the petrol station and the storage tank wont have all the water mixing with the fuel like the ones at most petrol stations. When I worked in manufacturing, I developed a checklist for supplies for my area AND for the stockroom where I got my supplies. Saved our butts many times telling the stock purchasing folks when we were low. Handed off the area to another guy & he was constantly complaining that the supply purchasing folks didn't do their jobs.... It was simply a paper inside a plastic sleeve, marked sharpie on the sleeve for need, wiped clean when supplies were brought or notice sent.

Matt - Since you reveled your weakness, How do we guard against it. Idea 1: During some pulls the vehicles are not heavy enough, Add a 30 gallon gas tank on each vehicle. This is a reserve tank not to be used except in emergency. Vehicle is not to be used unless reserve is full. Each member of the recovery gets $20 bonus if the reserve is needed. (The weight of the gas will increase pulling capacity and the $20 will incentivise you not to run out.) Idea 2: Vehicle are not allowed to go on a recovery until filled with fuel in main tank.

Years ago I was pulling my small fishing boat in the early fall morning hours going to a lake. My buddy and I got into an argument about whether there was frost on the trees or whether it was dew. I stopped right there in the middle of my lane because we hadn't seen anybody on morning either direction. It would only take a half second to hop out run over, yank off a little branch, and run back to settle the bet. I jumped out and ran across the opposing lane to the side of the 2-lane road. Just about the time I reached up to grab the tree I hear him start screaming and freaking out because a flatbed semi had just rounded the curve behind us and really speeding. I freaked out and ran over to the truck, jumped in and tried to get it in drive to at least start to going forward. We were both fully prepared for impact for the semi slam into my boat launching it up into the back of my cab while also hitting the boat trailer which would also launch me off the road at some weird angle. As I looked back I noticed that the truck was crossing the double yellow and moving into the opposing traffic lane. It was then that I realized that my door was still open because closing it wasn't a priority when I thought we were going to get hit anyway. But when he moved over to try to pass, now my open door WAS a big problem as it was a very narrow two-lane road. I didn't think I had enough time to grab and pull my door closed but I tried anyway. The whole time I was reached out I was thinking that my arm was going to get sheared off. I can now hear the scream of the tires and the roar of the big diesel engine I had no time to look. The door slammed shut within milliseconds of that big semi truck screaming by my window in the opposing lane of traffic. At that moment we both saw God... And as soon as it was upon us it was gone behind another above the road and everything was silent again. I was so thankful and was laughing about the ordeal - but he was SO PISSED! We talk about it occasionally but he still won't laugh about it! Whatever doesn't kill you makes you soil your pants! 😂😂😂
