Some of those look like honest mistakes on the sellers part, maybe found in an old barn or a late relatives estate, combined with some poor guesswork. But that last one could only have been a scam, clean galvanized steel and a bright yellow tag don't scream antique to me.

Hi! I know what the mystery item is, because I have one! They're called geared loom shuttles, and they are antique. @@vidard9863 possibly if there was a hive in a hollow tree nearby (and you wanted to catch the queen and a few workers)? The issue I see is sealing the gap well enough so they can't just chew around it, as well as the gap size - different breeds of bees need different spacing (because they're larger or smaller), so even if that's what this is meant for it would likely only work with certain types of bees.

I would say that your mystery device is for something in the textile industry. It looks like it would have a bobbin of thread on the central wire and then feed the end out through the springy wire pieces. But I would need more closeup shots and different angles to figure out how it might have worked. If you look up "geared shuttle" you will find results that look a lot like that on Ebay. Thanks so much for the fun video.

Beekeeper here. That is not a bee trap. There is no way to attack the queen, the holes are too large to keep her in, and there is no way to set it in an area that she would even be in.
@jbbolts
@jbbolts 3 жыл бұрын
its set at the entrance so the bees have no choice but to go through it... worker bees fit through the holes but the queen is forced to go to the ball section and shes bigger so she cant get out

Queen Keeper queen bee trap. COOL! This sort of thing was a cottage industry at one time, and even became popular during the Great Depression. I've seen "Tramp Art" that was actually homemade versions of stuff like this. Eel traps, minnow traps, snake traps, pigeon traps, various sorters and such things made by common folk who needed them but couldn't purchase them.

But,with just a few simple adjustments to the dimensions,the design could be applied to an actual mouse trap.

Could even be a yellow jacket or bumblebee trap. They are both underground nesting species. You place the wire net trap below the ground, allowing the hole to be the entrance. They crawl in, they don't come out. Then toss into the fire cremating the critters, and reset the trap into the ground. Especially good in orchards with bees and fruit trees. Hang with fruit into the trap and put up into fruit trees. Bees and yellow jackets et al crawl into get the red fruit - trapped.

This looks like something used to catch monkeys. The bait goes inside the globe. The monkey will try to grab the bait by inserting its arm on the tube. When the monekey grabs the bait, it will not be able to get its arm out of the tube.
@mattmexor2882
@mattmexor2882 2 жыл бұрын
Why would you put the big globe on the end? Plus it would need to be secured to something or the monkey would carry the trap away. There doesn't seem to be a great way to secure it.
