You are right that there are a ton of garden based vids out there.... however I think u are wrong on one point. you aren't replaceable or at all like the others. Your content is put together in a realllllly higher art and tou have a flare for actual realllll cinematography. To be blunt you tube rewards a lower level.... I say don't stoop to it. keep up w your personal style which is far and above artistically and content wise the rest but if I could offer one nugget.... I notice w a lot of the more 'popular' garden or homestead channels they have a lot of face time w the camera. making ppl personally connected to the channel via a faux sort of familiarity. as if in some way by a person talking directly to the camera vs a person artfully creating a story to go w the same content, they have created some sort of relationship as opposed to it being more like a show. I adore what u do as is...... and will keep coming back and watching no matter what, even rwpeating videos just because they are a visual delight as well as a learning moment and an auditory pleasure. I don't know an easy answer to you tubes stupidity, but I do hope you continue. .... you are excellent at what you do. A'ho

The rabbit was sent by the KZbin staff - it's bugged! All kidding aside stay true to your craft. There's something "magical" about your videos and yes they'll live forever. I hope I'm not the only person saying this is that you should never give up. I do communications as a "real" living and noticed that as technology quickly grows personal and creative ideas tend to suffer due to immediate demand. I'm predicting that this trend will soon burn its self out and return to what really works - thought out, well produced and inspirational videos.

I have to say that I was elated when I found your channel and have kept coming back, watching many of the gardening videos several times, the knowledge is nice but more so to watch how you tackle these projects and challenges. You have such a creative approach and share a lot of great context as to why things need to be done. Your garden videos really are like watching a TV show an I thank you for the effort and time. I would certainly be sad to see them go and am always excited when a new one is posted.

Hi Brian, thanks for your feedback. I’m glad you have found the channel and am honored you enjoy the style. Thanks for the words of encouragement.I started in 2013 and by 2017 I had about 15k subs. As you can see the channel has grown very slowly. There was a growth spike in the spring of 2018 and then it flatlined. There is a consistent core of subs that really appreciate the videos, but I get mixed messages from KZbin since my videos don’t get suggested much, when they are suggested I get a good amount of new subs. I suppose my problem is discoverability. For a while I also wasn’t able to post every week so that may have been a factor, but this year I experimented posting regularly and so far the results have been very underwhelming despite the explosive interest this year in gardening. To be honest I’m nearing another breaking point as I question if all the countless hours I invest in here. I continue because of the core subscribers. May I ask what was the video that you found first? was it suggested to you? (was it this one?)

I have watched my subs & views drop by 50% over the past few months starting around the time your's tanked Siloe' but think we've talked since about that in the FB group. I think it has a lot to do with our clips being removed from the suggested list that sits next to the clips. I had to stop doing a lot of work in the patch due to a bad back & that made me question why I was really posting the clips. In the end I had to remind myself that I started the channel to share what I do with family & friends interstate & I needed to get back to that. I really do enjoy your clips & would love to be able to be as eloquent as you are when you're sharing your experiences. I do hope you continue mate. Cheers.

My favorite videos are definitely the garden ones with the bonus recipe videos at the end. Also, I enjoy the garden videos that shows your creative approach to challenges in the garden like how you trellis vegetables and tame the gophers. 😉Your videos are beautiful arts of work...this is what makes you stand out. I love watching them. But in the same, the video doesn't have to have beautiful cinematography every time, I just love watching you in your garden showing us how you grow your vegetables...and honestly, your thought process. Your approach to the garden is artistic and creative in itself. I understand your frustration. If click baits give you more views then I am not opposed to it. I'm still going to watch every video you produce regardless. We love and appreciate you, Siloe'. I hope you continue to produce more videos in the future. 🤗

This is the first time I've left a comment on a video. I first discovered your vids at the beginning of spring and have since watched almost all of your back log. I've done this because of the quality of the vids, the art in the animations, music, & thumbnails, and because you tend to go through the entire growing life of the plants. I enjoy cooking, Q&A and your garden philosophy episodes, but i admit that have not watched sketchbook. i do not know what your ultimate goal is in youtube, weather this is a career path or just a hobby, but i do hope that you continue to create. if this is not for financial reasons i would love to continue to join you in gardening journey even if you produce significantly less but still enjoy doing it.

I just wanted to say that for so long, I have been watching your videos the minute I see them and always end up feeling very inspired and somehow a little less alone in the way that I think, feel, and interact with others, as well as the land (I see a lot of my personality in your content). I'll admit, I have not been very interactive, as I wasn't really sure in my place, as an apartment dweller with no available yard space and no gardening experience, to create dialogue on your videos. With that being said, however, I felt what you had to say on this video warranted a response. While you may have some inner debate regarding what you present to us as watchers, I believe that what you have an irreplaceable authenticity on KZbin, especially when it comes to other gardening/sustainability videos that makes your content stand alone (in a good way!) Across the board, there has yet to be a video that I haven't enjoyed and thought about hours after watching. It is your passion for the gardening, as well as the detail you put into creating the aesthetic of the videos that draws us in as viewers. Stay true to that, regardless of the views or the crowd that it pulls, if you do continue to make videos. It is true that gardeners will continue to garden, but I'm sure there are many people (like me) that have been truly inspired by your content, and your's above others, and may not have taken the leap into composting/gardening/etc without your wisdom. Whether you create more content or take that leave and focus on yourself, your art, and your garden, that inspiration will always be there. I have learned so much from your videos and will hold on to that knowledge and inspiration that you have given, and will continue to return to your videos when I get my own piece of land to grow on! Best of luck, my friend.

Ariana, you don't know how much hearing this means to me. Your case is exactly the reason I started the channel: to inspire, even those who are not actively looking for gardening info. This makes me want to keep going with the garden videos. I will drop the art ones, and unfortunately the Garden Philosophy (which I love but are going to hurt the channel viewership). Thank you for sharing your story and inspiring me to continue doing this. Thanks!

I am hoping you continue to make your videos!!! I am a 70 year old grandma, a nurse, a mother of 4, and I have watched most of the gardeners here on you tube. I got rid of my cable 6 years ago, and my computer is my sole form of entertainment and education. Most gardening videos I watch once or twice, decide if I can tolerate the person speaking (or not- personna is the total reason i decide on an up or down vote)This is my decisive reason for watching. You are such a sweet , pleasant person, easy to listen to and watch. I have only stuck with 2 people on here, You and MIGardener. Puhleeeeeze! don't stop! of all these people on you-tube, you are without a doubt my favorite. I find your show interesting, beautifully done (I am an artist also) and I certainly do not want you to stop . I subscribe, I give you a thumbs up, and would love to know what else I can do. I like the artsy ones, but the gardening and recipe combination are my favorites. Tell me what you need young man, I will do what I can on this end to help you out...Think about the Gramma in Twinsburg Ohio, watching you daily. I will be watching here to find out. Just know that your videos have ALL been watched by myself, and I hope there will be MANY more...(((Katie gee, professional Gramma, and heavyweight gardener)))

Have a great garden this season. 🥕🥬🥒🍅🥦 I understand about discouragement. I joined a local garden club which has the oversight of an historic trust property, the Kilgore-Lewis House in Greenville, SC. I made a video to promote this unknown urban arboretum, but both it and this garden remain undiscovered. The good news is it is the first day of Spring and a few peas are starting to come up in our veg plots. 🌱

I have been enjoying faithfully watching and following you for a couple years now. You are a big inspiration for me to produce the videos I started to this last spring. I myself went for what I like to see in garden videos and make them the way I feel they capture what I want viewers to see. I think that would it would be disingenuous to not make videos they way you feel they should be and opt for quantity. I also think that there is not enough sharing between content providers in the garden community. We need a lot more shout outs between channels and more pointing out of getting further information from other gardeners and really make this a garden community. I also want you to know Siloe that you are an amazing artist in so many lights, I loved the drawing videos, and that garlic scape recipe was awesome!

I hadn't seen you on my feed in a while and decided to visit your channel only to find you haven't released a video since this one in July. Although it does sadden me because I too am a fan of meaningful conversation and philosophy, most of the online audience is a younger generation raised and influenced by modern technology and media since their conception into this world. So many bright graphics and special effects have been put in front of them that their attention span is close to none. Videos that not only provide valuable content but connect with the audience and make them feel like they are a part of the creators life, as well as provide a ton of context as to why they do the things they do are not easy to find on youtube, especially with your production quality. I feel this is due to how youtube makes their money, if someone is watching a video on your channel, youtube may suggest another one of your videos to the viewer, if it happens to not be a gardening video maybe the person won't watch or even unsubscribe. I feel the best approach would be to have a main gardening channel, then have maybe an art and a philosophy channel you can mention on your main channel and cross market all the channels on each channel. I say this because I have seen many successful youtubers do this and like the great Picasso said "Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist", in your case you can learn how the youtube logarithm works and use it to your advantage. I know it may seem unnatural but this is just how youtube works, in a perfect world you wouldn't have to conform to this but trust me, the world needs your videos and I do hope you decide to keep making them this spring. Much love.

Do art on a second channel 3 keep the recipes. You really helped me learn to like Vegetables. It's because of you I'm trying new things. And the worlds needs this. 4. Short and sweet one shot videos are great. No editing. One a day. Show how things are growing. A little motivational talk about your love of gardening. Please, just post something for us dedicated followers. Then your channels algorithm will change. New people will follow. 5. Add a Patron account. Please keep trying. Don't let the "giant" win.

Thanks Becca. This is exactly what is sad, that subs that would be interested in seeing videos, don't get shown them just because they may not be interested in some other videos. It's limiting but I see why they do it. I've actually got into steemit and I'm still trying it out. I'll only do gardening now on this channel and upload when I can. As for short videos everyday, I just couldn't do that. It's not for me. I don't agree with them in principle either and I'm not that interesting of a person to have material everyday :-). Patreon would be nice, but from what I see, it is more hassle and work and only really works for large channels.

I found your channel a few weeks ago. I started watching KZbin because I started teaching gardening at our local library in January. I was looking for ideas. I have taught 6 classes now. 3 of them were from your videos. You have a way of communication that is original and enjoyable. At times I may learn a new way of cooking that leads me on a path of discovery similar to your squash soup recipe which my family thoroughly enjoyed last night. Another time you send me on a journey which ends with me telling how my hugelkulture experiment turned into an apartment complex for groundhogs. Maybe your mention of a particular type of vegetable will send me to my seed catalog to order because I'm curious about the taste of a specific vegetable you mentioned. The bottom line is that I have subscribed to only 4 channels. Yours is one of them. I really enjoy your content. Thank you from the bottom of my soul. Sincerely, Jeff

I've been watching your channel for years. I love the quality of your videos and its always a cut above, you're clearly a very talented editor and narrator. Tbh I too am shocked by how slow your channel growth has been. To me you're on the same league as Nerdwriter and the likes. Your channel could easily have 500k subscribers and average 100-300k views per video. That said its incredibly sad to see this happening to your channel. KZbin really fucks up in this regard. I don't have any advice but I just hope you keep on persisting, 4 years is a long time but who knows you might just a collaboration and rightly chosen video away. You've got the substance, you just need the traction, keep on persisting man. If you did a Patron I'd definitely contribute. All the best!

I like the way you do your videos, I love the quality. I like how you present your musings, and leave them open to differing thoughts. Very few channels, the ones I watch anyway, have the same approach. You mentioned you are an introvert, I am as well. I question my thoughts and actions quite often, and I like the feedback, it's hard to swallow sometimes, but I feel it very necessary. Unfortunately, not many people think like that (now I sound pretentious), most like the same thing over and over, and KZbin knows that. They are a business, and they need to sell ads. I hope you keep true to yourself, and do what you want. This channel is about you, and if you want to turn it into a business, you need get rid of the personal part. One thing I have learned in my business life is, intermingling of business and personal, does nothing but convolute, and degrade both. I will watch either way, you put great vids together, and I love seeing success in any garden.

I would want to devote more time to it and make better and more videos. Of course getting financial support from it would allow me to do that. In a way its sad to know the potential it could be but be blocked by the realities of life. I don't want it to be a business with capital B, but investing so much time and getting less visibility, seeing videos go down is sad. For instance if a video shows a lot of potential and is growing fast but I don't upload more it starts to drop. As soon as I upload it goes up again. Clearly this is not an organic response. I know more people would love to see my videos but are only prevented from doing so because of the "game" that youtube is.

Danny Peace = Raising the point of demographics and ad sales is very interesting! I really REALLY enjoy SH but never buy a damn thing and skip ads. Have I been profiled? Is such a profile/"demographic" an advertising curse for the channel?
@dannypeace90537 жыл бұрын
Steph Krunic I do not know if you are profiled, I think they profile the creators. KZbin makes the analytics avaliable to the creator, which includes the avg duration of time the video is viewed. I am not sure if they keep track of commercial viewing, but I think they might, as that is how they get paid. I pay for KZbin red, so I don't even know I count, because I see no commercials. Capitalism is logic heavy, as feelings do not equal dollars.

Chances are that the system will not recognize them and show them to people. The only reason why I make videos and specially post them online is to hopefully reach and inspire people, otherwise I'll just draw in my sketchbook, which is fun.
@PermacultureHomestead7 жыл бұрын
you sound like ian, he too only produces 2-5 vids a year in the name of quality. you artsy video guys make me jealous, ive been all about 4 years of weekend walkabouts. Love both of you guys for your eye for visual arts, my true art was physical ballet, martial arts and a garden.
@LolitasGarden7 жыл бұрын
I only produce 2-5 videos less in the sake of quality, more in the sake of I'm not trying to drive myself nuts to keep a channel in tip-top cash-making status. I just share when I want to. When a check rolls in once a year I take the family out for ice cream and toast to the people who haven't figured out adblock yet. I'm in control of my content, not some ever-shifting and mysterious algorithm.

Hi Siloe I’m new to gardening and new to your channel. I just started gardening this year and I’ve had some heart felt lessons on mistakes that I’ve made this year. Seeing your videos have inspired me to keep going. I’ve been addicted to seeing your videos over and over again because the creativity is like no other that I’ve seen. I love your honesty and transparency. I really enjoy your recipes as well and look forward to see what you might create with your harvest. Also I love the music you included. I hope you keep doing your awesome videos because they greatly appreciated.

I wouldn’t do that if they weren’t good quality, inspiring and thought provoking. So it was worth adhering to your beliefs of going for quality over views. I value highly the difference you have made to me, and indeed my garden! Thank you 🙏🏻

Hey brutha! I LOVE YOUR VIDS! Your a huge reason why I go onto KZbin in general. I myself have been struggling with a similar issue. By not wanting to be a part of the system that keeps people entertained I've stopped myself from creating a solid KZbin channel. But I've been reconsidering and am planning on making one anyways. I suppose we've become slaves to entertainment to a certain degree, even education is more appealing when its entertaining. But that doesn't necessarily mean its BAD or EVIL. The way I see it, if any of my videos can inform or inspire someone, EVEN ONE PERSON, then my work was worth it! WHO KNOWS WHO YOUR WORK CAN INSPIRE!!! The next Bill Mollisan or David Holmgren!!! I genuinely do understand that struggle tho, the long hours, tedious work. Perhaps your can still do what you love but in a different way? Gardening or Permaculture illustration guide book? A PDF? Perhaps a documentary? Even switching to a different media platform! I see your Instagram wasn't really used that often, I would really recommend Instagram for a place to inform and inspire!!! There are many ways your work can be manifested through! Idk, it just saddens me to see someone who I really look up to be uninspired like this but again, I get it. Some time off isn't a bad idea either! Haha, sorry if that's a bunch of unorganized thoughts. I'd just like to say as I finally submit this comment, that YOU ARE NOT DISPENSABLE! Your work, your style and vibe can reach others that no one else can! Sure there are tons of other garden vids out there but there isn't another Siloé Oliveira making garden videos! Ultimately tho, follow what's in your heart, for that is most important! You ARE as impactful and a great contribution to society with your wit, presence and knowledge! Much Love!

Siloe, I just today came across this very sad video. My heart breaks for you. Your gardening stories are such a pleasure to watch and full of positivity. You are such an inspiration to other urban farmers. As our country goes further down the road of massive debt and collapsing empire, providing at least some of your own food will be essential to quality of life. Have you thought about using your voice for profit? I enjoy the quality and tone of your voice, so soothing. Stay well my friend.
@sherthom56727 жыл бұрын
I like your videos: gardening, cooking, and art. I guess KZbin is like any art form. You have to ask why you are doing it... to express yourself, to turn it into a business, to please an audience, to get responses... and then ask yourself whether you would continue to do it regardless how many people watch it... would you write a book even if nobody read it, would you paint that painting even if it was never displayed? Are you in it for the joy of doing it, for the response you get, to be acknowledged? Will you compromise what you want to garner a reaction from the audience. These are questions all artist must come to grips with. All answers are legitimate as long as you understand your own motivation.
@suburbanhomestead7 жыл бұрын
Very well put. I believe publishing videos is inherently public art. So surely I wish for it to be shown. It's disheartening to do more and get less not because of the inherent quality or value of what you did but because of pure luck or dumb strategy.
@sherthom56727 жыл бұрын
suburban homestead I found that I am happiest as an artist when I gather more joy in the process rather than in the accolades... so I would vote that you build a body of work that you are proud of regardless how many people watch it. Like Van Gough, maybe your work will be a treasure that a few find now and the masses will discover later.

Just when I find you, NO!!!! Listening to your video you mention the word "purpose" I feel you have several purposes you want to fulfill with your videos. Reading the comments I believe you accomplished some, one that is creating a nice community that feels and want to create gardens thanks to your teaching & inspiration. I understand that making videos is taking away that escape, that time of connection with nature and we wouldn't want to take that away but I only watched one video and at this point my selfishness wouldn't want you to stop I want more lol. Yes there are other gardening videos but for me yours are so enchanting, therapeutic! you have a very soothing voice, they are so well explained videos so beautifully edited and of great quality i say this with much respect I admire you for your green thumb and patience for i am neither but I don't give up and these types of videos gives me direction & inspiration . Don't sacrifice that quality for quantity. Remember WHY your started making videos you now have a new subscriber that hopes & craves to see more of your videos, what you seek will come you just have to treat it just like you do with your garden and you will also receive here your harvest and another purpose fulfilled.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I recorded this a few months ago, but precisely because of comments like your I decided to return and invest in quality versus quantity. Thank you for your viewership and encouragement. It means a lot!

I just found your channel last night, and I love it! I watched one of your earlier episodes with my kids and they really enjoyed it as well, and my older two were very excited about your art videos. Whatever path you choose to take, I think you've done an excellent job with making your channel a resource that can be referenced time and again, even if you decide KZbin is no longer a sustainable option for you. But please know that your work, and the quality of it, are thoroughly appreciated even if "the machine" doesn't reflect that in terms of statistics and graphs and views. I hope you are well!
@jerButler877 жыл бұрын
I personally prefer the quality that you produce on your channel. You need to be completely honest with yourself about WHY you are making videos. Are you doing it to get views and make money? Or are you doing it to create quality content that will inspire others? It is possible to create inspiring content and still get a lot of views (Veritasium, Smarter Every Day, etc...) But please do not lower your standard of quality with the hopes that you will get more views. Those who actually care about what you are doing will be the ones that stay, and in my opinion, those are the people for whom you should be making your videos.
@jerButler877 жыл бұрын
Oh, I also wanted to add: Do what makes you happy. You do not owe your viewers anything. The last thing I would want is for you to feel like you are forced to continue to make videos because now you have an audience even though you no longer enjoy doing it. Do not let your viewers be your shackles. I love watching you, but I would much rather you be happy, even if that means that I don't get to watch you.
@suburbanhomestead7 жыл бұрын
That's the thing veritasium and other have said they have lowered their production quality exactly because of that. I value quality and ultimately everyone does also, but the system doesn't reward or recognize quality only visibility and addictability. Sometimes the two are related, most of the times they are not. Thanks for watching and sharing your view.

I've followed your channel for quite a while although I've never interacted. I'm a quiet stalker ;) Personally I prefer your gardening videos, and those I really like with or without recipes. I like the artistic quality of your gardening videos, it makes them unique and interesting at the same time. The garden philosophy I don't watch too often for the simple reason they are a bit too long for my taste. I don't watch long videos in general (I actually think this is the longest one I've watched in a long time without quitting before the end). I would be a loss if you stopped doing videos although I would understand if you did. I think you need to decide if you do the videos for your own pleasure or to to please others. Be true to yourself.

Second. I understand you don't want to break up your sub base, but it might be best for cohesion and viewer interest.
@suburbanhomestead7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joseph (both of you :-) I feel that is best. I will probably not include art in this channel anymore because it hurts it. I knew that most current subscribers perhaps wouldn't be interested in it, but I wanted to become more varied, keeping the gardening at the same rate as before. The trouble is youtube judges you according to the last video and how well it did with your subs. So even if my art vid would have potential for an art audience, just because my gardening audience is not interested it deems the video as bad and never tries it with another audience. This has the tendency of funneling an audience to a narrow sliver. Also youtube wants us to create everyday otherwise the channel starts to wither away. So I couldn't make enough material to fulfill 2 channels. All that being said, I will probably continue with the traditional gardening videos because that is what this audience likes the most, even if I have to continue producing as often as I always did and cannot fulfill youtube's demand for more videos.

Late to the party, as they say. I appreciate your frustration. So much in life is about following the path of least resistance. I only found your channel recently, but have subscribed because I like the old videos as well as the new ones. Going back to catch up. Hopefully things are going better for you now. You are brave to put yourself out there! Balance is key!
@carolinehonse357 жыл бұрын
It seems simple to me. If you enjoy making a certain kind of video then continue making them. If you think KZbin is being unfair, then boycott them and find another venue. If you are losing viewers, figure out if being popular is more important than doing something you love. If you aren't making as much money as before consider how important that is to you and readjust if necessary. KZbin is a business and businesses are rarely fair, are rarely, if ever, only interested in the greater good, and are rarely ashamed that they are profit-motivated. I like your videos and like to watch them to see your content which is often unique and presented by someone who seems kind and honest. If you are more interested in popularity or profit, I will probably be less interested in your video content unless of course you really understand what it is that you want and there is an honesty about what you want then your viewers are your friends and not your consumer audience that must be appeased. Either way is legitimate but only one seems to be compatible with what makes you happy and glad to be alive. Peace be with you about all of this and I hope you find the answer that works for you.
@suburbanhomestead7 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is that there is not another viable venue. The cruel reality is that there are too many creators, and sensationalism wins. But thanks for reminding me that businesses are rarely fair and almost never looking out to the good of all. It's just overwhelming at times that we our culture preaches that they are.

I know what you mean. I just finished watching the documentary and then the drama based on Edward Snowden's life and actions. I truly love my country and the people who share living here with me. But, oh my, how nearly fatal is the feeling of being overwhelmed by what is happening here and everywhere on the planet. When I was young I never expected to feel this helpless and sometime hopeless as I do now at 71 years old. And yet, hopefulness is hardwired in us as well so we must plow along and share the road and adventure with others. You are definitely on the path as well and it's good to know you.

Siloe, I love the quality and voice of your gardening videos. I was drawn into subscribing to your channel because I am a novice gardener and was looking for channels that put out both info and inspiration. I found both here. I, for one, vote for you to keep putting out your gardening videos, but I understand the paradox you're facing. We all feel small and insignificant given the tide of our times, but I think the wants, needs and opinions of the small potatoes in our world are an important force that can become a tidal wave under the right circumstances. As an passionate artist, gardener and interlocutor what you have to say and the conversation you are engaging in matter. As KZbin consumers/contributors we all have a say (albeit small) in how this thing called social media evolves. Like any kind of organic evolution the changes and results are hard to see in the short term, but they all have an effect. Everything that is in need of change these days seems like a daunting uphill battle, however, I'm still hopeful that we can effect the change that is inevitable in positive ways by putting our voices in fray. I think the best thing you can do is keep speaking up about what you want KZbin to become while balancing your art and your personal time. That's all any of us can do and keep some modicum of sanity. Slainté.

I have only found you a couple of weeks ago and now am 'looking for' your videos. I have already shared your 'channel' on youtube with each of my children and I can hardly wait for spring due to your inspiration. I love the art that is included in the gardening videos and what i can see in your home. Your offerings are richer for them reflecting your individual personality, beauty and the natural grace you possess. I am not a student of art, i might not search for art videos, but I absolutely appreciate it's influence in your videos. If they are important to you to share, then you must HAVE something to share. Do them! Think of it this way. There are many people who do gardening videos, but YOURS INSPIRE. That is your ART. If your discontent is with KZbin, perhaps have you considered a website of your own? Another idea, maybe course-style offerings or workshops. Perhaps some of the readership drops because we 'established' the garden we needed to begin. Then we would look for what is next. Networking? Perhaps the videos showing how-to would be first, then where would you WANT to go from there? What do YOU NEED from it? Do you want a gardener/artist community who converse & share? Sharing selections of new seasonal varieties? How to harvest/control pests/ replace nutrients in soil? etc. If you do leave KZbin, please leave us a trail of where we find you next! Your videos are more than gardening. I enjoy just hearing you as if a comforting, inspiring friend comes in to 'chat'. Something this world needs a lot! And a quick vote on the gardening WITH recipe. I love to find a new way to use what we grow. Tired of the same old thing. I backed up your video over and over to copy a recipe i wanted. KEEP!

Every single one of them has a great quality, but I'm not watching them only for the quality, nor for the content (I don't even have a garden or a balcony with some basil in a pot, and I'm so afraid of bugs...), it's beacause of the beauty in them, the relaxing beauty that you yourself emanate, clearly living the life you love. Hey Siloe'. I just ran across this video and wanted to add my voice of support. I really enjoy your videos. I enjoy the ones that have your recipes as well as all of the others. In my travels through this life I've come to realize that EVERYONE is relevant and while nobody is the right fit for everyone there is an audience out there for everyone. You have a unique style of video because it is a real part of who you are. 40 years ago a celebrity hair dresser told me that he wouldn't want to do the hair and make up for every woman in DC if even if he could. This caught my attention and I have taken it as my philosophy in life. I'm not for everyone and wouldn't want to be. There are enough people in the world who DO understand and appreciate me to keep me busy in life. As long as you are being true to who you are there will be an audience for you. Frankly, I find your videos to be not only informative but full of inspiration in many facets of life. Your personal story and value system come through and are as inspiring as are your approach to connecting with the earth and your food. There is a huge difference between SOIL and dirt and there is a big difference between YOUR videos and the videos of every other vlogger on KZbin. Keep up the good work and keep the faith.

Please don’t change ANYTHING about your format: from your gentle poetic language, your engaging “vintage” appearance, your artistic manner in explaining the world around you to your honesty and intelligence...you are everything I look for on YT. I have rarely been so stimulated to garden, cook, create beauty and defend the Earth by anyone else videos. We should be awarding you a medal, but suffice it to say that when you seemed your lowest a bunny hopped into view and a delicate butterfly laced the hydrangea behind you....the goal you mentioned at that moment was to be one with Nature. You have achieved it, my friend. You are an artist on every level! Don’t let YT crush you!

Hello Siloe. I know this is an old video, but I felt a need to respond, because I know that feelings like this never really go away. Personally, I'm so happy you continued, because your veggie documentary series is what got me hooked on your channel. Your style is so whimsical and artistic and as an artist/gardener myself I am so inspired by what you do. I've been wanting to start a channel for so long but the way youtube works... like you said.. you kinda have to focus on one thing.. and as an artist thats not the way my mind works. However I see that you have an etsy with your art, and this channel is a way to direct people there in a way, and thats really inspiring to me. It shows that you don't just have to do one thing, because in real life, people are into a variety of different things. Its just nice to see that you don't have to be "just" a gardener or "just" an artist. You can be both, and even more. So thank you!

Ha! I really have enjoyed the recipe part of the videos. My daughters and I were just talking about that the other day. It is unique in gardening videos.

I really do adore your videos. I do watch the whole video unless I'm at the moment like sowing carrots, then I may be watching the beginning over and over again. You are one of the few that actually show the planting, sowing, saving seeds etc. Other garden videos are just pointing at sections of their garden and talk about it.

I love your channel because you’re a cottage grower. The information you give out is new to people just starting. You’re gardening philosophy is wonderful. Please don’t stop. It’s easy to get discouraged. I’m happy to have found you. The two things I wasn’t really interested in was the history of the particular vegetable, and yes the recipe. But this isn’t a negative. I won’t stop watching you. Meant to be positive input. Also maybe the drop off in May and June is because people are outside actually doing what they learned from you right before the most gardening begins. I would also watch a separate channel on recipes or history of food. Your art content does deserve a separate channel. 💜

I only just found you and I have been a gardener for many years. You resonated with my desire for things to be functional and beautiful. The video on doing your shed over was phenomenal and I found myself wishing I knew how to use power tools and that you would do more on design for novices and how you decorated your house. I love art also, but am also no expert on it. I'm sure everyone has noticed by now in 2024, the algorithms are much worse . If we don't watch one or two videos from someone they no longer show up in our feed. It's unfortunate.

This channel automatically populated on my KZbin home page a couple of days ago. I've been binge watching this channel. The music, the colors, the cinematography, the choice of clothing, the scripts are all thoughtfuly or orchestrated. There is even yoga! Kudos proud warrior. Thank you for all your efforts.

Your backdrops, your playfulness with colors, even the little rabbit wandering into the frame is art. You say it best by just doing. I love your quiet philosophy. Please dont stop. Everybody doesnt want all of the sensationalism that alot of youtubers give us. A place of Reflection.Yes!!!!

I personally love your videos with the recipes because sometimes I want to grow something, but I don't know what the uses are for the vegetables I'm learning about. For example, the patty pan squash. I want to grow them, but have never have cooked with them before. So it's like the total package! I know I'm commenting on a year-and-a-half old video, but please dear god I hope you don't still feel the sad discouragement you feel in this one.

I've also been here for some time now, I specially look forward for your gardening videos, altough I doubt I have seen them all. What I really wanted to say is that I understand you feel hurt somehow by getting into the "machinery" of youtube, which might at some point make you gain some viewers that could *not* be the ones you were looking for, and now you feel like loosing them is a real loss (but they could actually never be a real gain). Don't we all sometimes feel like the world moves faster than we can to keep the rithm? Specially for sensitive people this holds true. The path of learning how to let the good things in and the bad things out is the hardest one. I do (as many of us which still remain) appreciate all the love you put in your videos. And this is all you have to let guide your way, whatever you love, please don't stop doing it, because here, on the other end, we DO notice. Receive all my love back and the best, whichever your choice of path will be :-)

Please don't go. You are the first person I've discovered who has similar gardening philosophy and techniques as I do. I only discovered you a few days ago and I have been watching your videos every chance I find. You are a beautiful soul with a peaceful monk-like disposition. Every word you speak is well thought out and filled with wisdom. Even if the youtube system doesn't understand you, you are a blessing to the rest of us in this community you have created. Thankyou so much for being so brave and opening up to us. 😄

As long as people like you continue watching I will try to keep going. It is just a matter of how much I can output. I value each viewer, but economically for me to be able to produce in any constant and regular way I need a set amount of views to happen consistently. Viewers who have supported the channel by buying my art on Etsy have given me hope that this can be economically sustainable without needing a huge audience (I don't really need a huge audience. I just want to inspire those who want to be inspired). I hope this is sustainable.

First of all, I think you're very smart for coming to your community to ask their thoughts about this matter - not enough people do that - I know it's not easy. I only just found your channel and subscribed. I had a terrible potato harvest his year (my first) and came across your 2 videos on the subject - I learned something and enjoyed them very much. I've watched MANY gardening videos over the last year, and yours stood out due to their artistic flair which is very unique, and I personally enjoy - so I hope you keep those up :) I love the recipe at the end, however I would suggest mentioning up front that there will be one coming later so as a viewer I know to stay tuned for that and not click away the moment my question (reason for watching) has been answered. I know personally how time consuming it is to shoot and edit YT videos, so you definitely have to be clear on exactly how much time you're willing to dedicate to it or it will suck up way too much of your life. Then... are you doing it just for the love of it, or is it supposed to lead into something bigger - both are fine, but clarity around that is important. I'm really new to the whole YT thing, but I've been learning A LOT about video structure, proper setup on YT, cross promotion on other platforms (social channels, etc.), repurposing content, etc. from some really interesting and very successful people online such as Steve Dotto, Amy Schmittauer, Sunny Lenarduzzi, Roberto Blake, just to name a few. These are people that are saavy when it comes to YT, but also about online marketing as well. Maybe they would have some info that you would find helpful regarding getting your videos found by more people, etc. I very rarely take the time to post such a lengthy comment to anyone, but I could feel your frustration in this video - I've been there myself with projects. I also really like what you're doing here and feel as though you're offering viewers a unique and authentic experience, which is wonderful. It's all in the marketing of your wonderful work - you just need to learn how to get more eyes on it. I hope one of the resources I mentioned above is helpful to you in some way. Keep up the beautiful work! :)

I really enjoy your videos. They are high quality. The most recent ones about creating a cottage garden are amazing. Really inspiring. Don’t become like the rest. You are a quality person and it really comes through. I’m just not into growing produce because my cottage garden is going around a septic lol. But maybe a small raised bed. But I love your cottage garden. You are talented.

I love your videos - every single one is thoroughly though out, informative, funny and the video quality is just great. Don't give up for your fans and you won't regret it! There are a lot of gardening videos out there, but you are unique. I feel out, others do too!

I’m a new subscriber and love you and your place. Too many gardening channels tape everyday, same thing different plant. Your an artist young man. I’m 60 and trying to create my garden space on our acre. You inspire me. Keep on doing what you do. I’m disabled and the outdoor gardening is my happy place.

siloe i love the art you bring to your garden videos and you have inspired me in my gardening. it is like you talked about with crops and mass production. youtube wants the most eyes on the most videos for the most time. and the more they get, the more money they get. KZbin is like walmart and you are the farmers market on saturday morning. youtube is biased toward junk like walmart is. and some people love walmart. but i still want to go to the farmers market on saturday mornings! i hope you take the time you need but still put quality videos out periodically. Thanks for everything !
