For references, I would have looked at things like ancient japanese depictions of tigers as well as foo dogs (for face shape). Magnamalo's overall design is inspired by the armor of samurai - its horns are most notable because they resemble the Kabuto (兜, 冑). The horns resemble the datemono (crest) - the maedate (front decorations). It's hellfire gas is supposed to resemble onibi - will-o'-the-wisps!

Having done exactly that - (a lot of times because hobbies are just fun to accumulate I guess) it's a learning process. To start off I just got sculpey and some of the materials , like aluminium foil and some thinner gauge aluminium wire ( I got 14 but I'd recommend 16 ) and a cheap toolset from Amazon and just sculpting something you know (something you see a lot) and when you think it looks ugly - just keep going cuz the worst case is that you can just give it another go , not losing motivation is a huge hurdle to get past but if you can it's really fun to have lots of hobbies
