Thank you to Sakuraco for sponsoring us and enabling us to work on these DIY projects, make the videos we want to make, and live the quiet, at-home life with our cats and garden that we want. Feel like we skipped middle age and jumped straight to grandparent lifestyle, and I'm totally good with that. Use code “RNJ“ for $5 off your first Sakuraco box here: team.sakura.co/racheljunadventures-SC2306 I feel like I am living my dream and I am so so happy and grateful!! I was finally able to (mostly) finish my bathroom and share the results! I love it SO much. This project used an IKEA LOMMARYD mirror. It could fit a 45x60cm cabinet completely hidden behind it, or you could add a much larger horizontal cabinet if you wanted to DIY it into a sliding mirror. I used acacia since it's a very dense, hard wood. Went with 2cm thick backboard and side walls. Make sure to fully pre-drill holes in acacia or you'll crack the wood (which I did the first time around, whoops).

So idea since you said about the spiders. Why not have one of those small round mirrors that are used in like high traffic areas so people can see what is around the corner and have it placed strategically so you could see the back side of the mirror? Lie have it in the same corner as the wall shelves and toothbrush?

Thank you for the video. Mostly, I'm just happy that noone got hurt during the project. (Well, as far as I can see, at least. Since nobody showed any band-aid, I hope it means that noone got hurt...) When mirrors break, it can get dangerous pretty fast. (By the way, I love the part with the pillows. Looks funny, but if it works, it works. And with Jun getting a very special view. I can't tell, if men actually like that or not. Particular from his girlfriend. But it's hilarious to see.) Take care and lots of love from europe

I like that you guys have separate bedrooms and bathroom. One of the things that stress me out the most when thinking of being with someone long-term is not having my own space anywhere anymore. Of course it takes a lot to be able to afford such a comfort, but it's great to see that it can work and it's not weird for a couple to have their own spaces.
@RachelandJunAdventures
@RachelandJunAdventures Жыл бұрын
Technically we have the same bedroom, but there are two guest rooms that we've split into an extra room for each of us as well. Although in our bedroom we do have separate mattresses/blankets/etc, and it is SO helpful for getting good sleep. I think a lot of people need their own space at times, and especially when you've been in a relationship for a long time it feels easier to not need to be connected at the hip for everything. It'll depend on the relationship but I think there are plenty of people out there who won't mind keeping some things separate! It's not even that uncommon to have entirely separate bedrooms. Good sleep is seriously so important. The separate bathroom situation probably isn't something everyone can do, but it works SO well for us. It solves tons of minor issues and arguments before they happen, haha. We each get to set things up exactly as we want and clean to our own personal preference levels. (I'm the super anal cleaner. Could you tell lol)

@freechilli8755
@freechilli8755 Жыл бұрын
NGL it's not the solution for all couples but I'll be damned if it isn't a great one. We used to just have separate blankets but now we have separate rooms. My partner snores like the Shinkansen and I'm a bed hogger, so this setup has improved both of our sleep quality a lot. It's also fun to send texts summoning the other over.

The worst are those fake recessed medicine cabinets that are only like 3 inches deep. They're like when companies put pockets in pants, but then sow them shut. Just enough to tease you into thinking they're useful when they actually aren't helpful at all. Should be illegal!

medicine cabinets are great but i think that storing medicine in the bathroom is not a good idea, it should be stored in a place with low humidity otherwise it possibly decreases its shelf life which is not the end of the world for some meds but detrimental for others which can save life

One of my cats also has trouble jumping. She’s not a good jumper at all. She can get to a windowsill or tub but anything higher or more complicated, she doesn’t know what to do. I think it has to do with her falling when she was younger. She fell from second floor railing to first/ground floor; didn’t get hurt at all, just stunned. After that, she just quit jumping. (A previous cat did the same thing. Landed on her feet, shook herself & walked away. She was on a thinner railing so that didn’t help. She also learned that lesson but it didn’t impact her jumping ability.)

If you put sort of a very dim string of lights around the mirror's backside for an "underlighting" effect, you would be able to see if there were any spooders by the shadow they'd cast when it was on. Also it would look kinda neat. There are strips that will do rainbow or other gradient cycles, for extra mermaidy vibes.

Well done, Rachel! Good to see you finding workarounds when presented with obstacles. A couple of suggestions if I may. Drywall screws are for drywall, not for mounting cabinets. They are case-hardened and have little shear strength. This means they will break rather than bend first if put under excessive load. In a bathroom I would recommend using stainless steel screws as they will not rust and they will bend rather than simply break like drywall screws. Granted, since you have used 6 screws to fasten the cabinet to the wall it will probably be fine from a load bearing standpoint but you might keep it in mind for future projects. Also, if you want the mirror to ‘float’ consider painting the outside of the cabinet behind it white to match the wall tile. If you like the look of the acacia and don’t mind advertising that there’s a cabinet behind the mirror then leave it alone. After all, it’s your bathroom. Congratulations once again!

a fairly easy idea for lights behind the mirror is to get some led light strips, I have seen quite a few you can cut in-between the lights to customize the length

If you ever encounter a similar situation with hinges, a piano hinge is AWESOME for holding weight as well, since it's a single hinge that can be as long as you want.

I still love your cats. My fav parts is when Poki jumps down to the laundry shoot and Nagi tries to jump too. So cute! Haku sit together with Poki into the shelf and they bathing. ❤ I do love when Rachel wrapped a new tableware to Poki. So, super kawaii!! ❤ Overall the mermaid bathroom, it looks really good!! 🧜‍♀️ ❤

Okay but as someone who’s been obsessed with the ocean ever since I was a kid and saw the original Little Mermaid and wouldn’t stop singing Part of Your World, seeing Rachel make her own beautiful mermaid princess bathroom was getting me so high on serotonin like you wouldn’t believe.

I feel like I'll be like Rachel when I get my own house! I already make some of my own clothes when I can't find what I'm looking for, might as well do the same with furniture when I have the space for it 😂 Also I ADORE the look of your bathroom!! It feels very ethereal!
