I appreciate you sharing this project, it was a fun watch! I'm happy to see KZbin recommending creators with less than 7 figure subscribers for once.

Hi thanks for watching and the comments. Yes I agree with you. KZbin can make or break content creators. I think you may have already but if not please consider Liking and Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

Maybe maple for the tone board and probably much thinner. The regulator could in fact be used at scale with modification. Possibly a simple adjustable drag brake. The spring was my only initial thought of worry, scaled it would be highly difficult and dangerous. Not to mention difficult to obtain a flat coil spring that could preload enough energy and power to move the mass of the drum. The project as a whole is there, I mean close though, would love to see you revisit this after awhile. Great start!

Hi thanks for watching and the comments. I learned a lot of things building this project. The spring was a concern for me and I knew the difficulty of building or sourcing a spring like that. One idea I had for the spring was to tie the drum shaft to a much smaller drum, say 4 inches in diameter. I would wrap around that drum with something like a seatbelt strap. I would then use two large extension springs that would pull the strap. This would also require a one-way coupling between the two drums. The coupling would allow you to wind the thing up as you wouldn't be able to spin everything backwards otherwise. I think you may have already but if not please consider Liking and Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

For the tone board, you can used a sheet of metal and regulars the actual note by adding weight to the tip (what you used the miter saw for) or reinforcing a strip near the base.

Yeah good idea. I'll get back to this project some day. Thanks

You need to stay with this and finish. Would be a great gift for a music box lover like me!!

I notice a lot of 3D printing dudes on youtube design their parts around slots and bolts with inset nuts. This could help reduce defects that come from the manual labor needed with the tools you have.
@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS2 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching and the comments. Yeah 3D printing certainly has its benefits. Either way I think you may have already but if not please consider Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

You should definitely finish this! You could potentially replace the tone bars with keys from a xylophone, or perhaps fabricate your own from aluminum or steel bar stock. The part that spins to regulate the speed is known as the Governor (it 'governs' the speed of the mechanism). It might require some trial and error, but I think you could get your current iteration to function properly.

Hi thanks for watching and the comments. I'm going to get back to the project at some point soon. I've had others recommend the xylophone bars too, so may be a good direction for me to try. I have some ideas on the governor as well. I think you may have already but if not please consider Subscribing. I would really appreciate it!

regulator fan thing = governor, also a better tonewood try something harder/denser - overall, an interesting experiment in scaling things up
@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS2 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching and the comments. Yeah, governor would have been a much better way to describe it. I learned a lot from this project. I think you may have already but if not please consider Liking and Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

You could also drill holes into the regulator fan to reduce airpressure
@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS2 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching and the comments. That would help I’m sure. I think you may have already but if not please consider liking and Subscribing. I would really appreciate it.

What about scavenging the tone bars from a xylophone and incorporating them somehow?
@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS2 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching and the comments. I'm going to get back to the project at some point soon. Good idea on xylophone bars. I'm also considering tubes like on a wind chime. I think you may have already but if not please consider Subscribing. I would really appreciate it!

I'm sure you've considered this, but can you imagine the sound if you made it out of brass?

Just make the toneboard out of steel sheet.
