I had this same idea a couple months ago. I thought I was a genius, but now that Uri did it...... I _know_ I'm a genius. I thought about the grain direction problem, but my idea was to make it as a scrub plane. The advantage of a bi-directional plane is speed/efficiency, so using it to hog off lots of material where you don't care about the surface texture would probably be the best use. You could also go the opposite way and make a smoothing plane, where the blade depth is so shallow/fine that it won't tear out when going backwards.

The adjusting two blades problem can be overcome with "divide and conquer" cut the plane in half and you get two planes to adjust separately. Nice idea for an entertaining video, well done.

Brilliant, now you don't have any wasted effort when you have to move back to the starting end of the peice of wood you are plaining!! LOL What might work better is having one end set for a thinner shaving then the other. You can then use one end to get your wood close to finished dimension then switch to the finer end to finish off. Have fun experimenting and I look farward to seeing it in future videos

Lay the thumb of the hand holding the plane against the top face of the blade you don't want moving, as you tap the other for adjustment. This force will act as a sort of clamp and keep the second blade from moving as you adjust the other.

Mount screws to push in/pull out the blades that way it dont move if you got a fastening wingnut or similar. Then make 3-10 groves going across the plane bottom that you put some rounded metal rods into so the wood plane itself dont become wore down

Suggestion: mark a line in the middle, cut down through with a saw, place a half at each end of the work piece. Much easier to adjust depth of cut, and still works in both directions. I wish I could build a plane half as nice as yours.
