i feel gender should have been an assumption too, because usually the male child carries the surname forward whilst the female doesn't unless both/either partners either merge it or use both. not trying to be narrow minded but that's what the worlds following and for a realistic simulation that parametre is essential.

Here is a interesting story from Serbia: There was a woman with a husband. They rented apartments with their business having a name "Royal apartments". Unfortunetly at one point her husband died. The woman created her legit new surename, "Kralj" which means "King" in english. And that is the story of the first and last "King".

Nice video style! First video of yours I've watched and really enjoyed it! You're also very expressive! Well, I think there may be some relations between families and attraction, due to the genetic variation favored by genetic itself. I mean, genetic variation means better chances of survival for the species as a whole, so basically people tend to be attracted to different immune systems and facial variations, and some families are more inclined to have relations with a particular family or genetic variance.. also forced marriages and homosexuality interfere with the way names are transmitted or if they are passed at all to an offspring.. Like.. this is really complex and takes a lot of variables to consider! But, anyways, that was a nice topic for expeculation and scientific approach!

My fathers mother a previous catholic nun had 13 children. They almost all have different fathers. They all have different last names of each father. Our family got our last name because she couldn't figure out who knocked her up. So best we can tell my father was Mohawk Lebanese with the rest of us having English and Irish mixed in. With the last name of a famous cat. I'll bet there is a lot of weird ways people get lest names.

We had this problem of too few last names at the beginning of New France in now-Quebec, that's why they started to call people by descriptors like "the white", "the brown", "the young" and those descriptors eventually became the prefered last name of subsequent generations, so you get names like Leblanc, Lebrun or Lejeune. This "too few last names" thing was exacerbated by the custom of naming the first boy son like the father and the first born girl like the mother, and all the other kids (which there could be 10 or 15 kids altogether) would be named for ancestors or saints, so there were also just a handful of first names, which compounded the problem.

I’m really impressed with how much you coded in such a short time. If you want ever try this again should find a way to code in relatives to the kids based on there gender. For example a family could have 2 kids 1 boy and 1 girl. The boy dies with a child while the girl get married which stereotypically take on the last name of there spouse. If there would be a way to do this probably give you some more diverse results

Good video but I would add a slight additional action. Though not the norm as it used to be, it's still quite common to keep having children till a boy is born, to inherit and continue the family name and often to inherit the families material goods. Thankfully that is slowly phasing out, but not as fast as you think.
