I love how it turned out & how it looked with the green dress! I was wondering, what type of reactions do you get from older folks when you're out & about? Are they surprised when they see a young person wearing clothes from their era? I would think either way it'd make them happy

Walmart has a waterproofing gel I've used on cloak seams. It's in the camping section and has a brush on the top. When I last got it I paid $5.00 for it, and it's a decent size bottle. It was clear on the waterproof fabric I used but I've never put it on clear vinyl. Should be transparent but it might have a slight color to it. I let it dry overnight and then put on a second coat just to be really certain the seams would stay dry

What a fantastic idea! My mom had a small bag sealer at her business, and your burn experiment reminded me of that. I wonder if a straight edged tool, like a heated butter knife, would work to seal the edges? I also thought mini magnets would be a fun alternative for the snaps.

I've used a hair straightener before to seal plastic, but you have to get the heat and exposure time *just* right so that it melts without burning.

@@charliegirl42ify yes 😊 it was about the size of a large stapler, and had a spring loaded arm. She had a party supply store, and sometimes we needed to reseal a bag. (We marked prices down for products missing a quantity, like if there were 7 toys instead of 8 per bag).

@@SewRenaRegarding the heat fusion method for seams, YOU CAN! I’ve seen many tutorials using vinyl (for various items - pencil and makeup pouches, hair bows filled with sequins, etc.) and an iron or hair hot tool (flat iron or a curling iron even, if you can make it work!) and baking parchment paper, to fuse vinyl together. Wherever you want to fuse, simply cover with parchment paper (to prevent burning), and press the iron/clamp the hair tool, for a few seconds until the pieces are fused together. It works like a charm, and with the adjustable temp options on your iron, it’s very adjustable for your specific situation.

Transparent vinyl raincoats were sometimes available in the 50’s when I was a child. They were often worn with translucent rain boots that you wore over your shoes, and also clear foldable (pleated) vinyl rain bonnets (that were available everywhere). These items were not exactly glamorous, and young people rejected them in the sixties, and they had pretty well disappeared from the market by the seventies.

So fun! I grew up in the 60s & 70s and remember the clear rain coats and my grandma would wear the plastic bonnets. Also I had a plastic umbrella with purple trim. I loved it! My mom was an upholstery sewer and she used a walking foot machine, so it sewed everything! She also used silicone spray on her machine table to help keep plastic from sticking. It's also recommended to use a Teflon foot to help with the sticking. Love your videos! Your explanations are very clear and easy to understand! Keep up the wonderful videos!!

This looks gorgeous! Maybe you could try using a hair straightener to seal the seams? I've done that before to seal bags for shipping, like you said it just needs to be a lower temperature and play around with the exposure time. Maybe even melt in some pretty ribbon to make highlighted seams instead of hidden? Not sure if that would strengthen or weaken it 🤔 never had any trouble getting melted plastic off the straighteners, just have a cotton rag handy while they're hot and let them cool thoroughly before chipping off any remainder with an old credit card.

If you sprinkle and smooth a little baby powder on the vinyl it will go through the machine fairly easily. After you're finished just wipe off with a damp cloth.

I wonder if a lower heating element, possibly applied for a longer time, would work. Like a hair straightener paired with a pressing cloth on each side. Or a biastape iron, with a pressing cloth, probably at a quicker speed. Looks stunning, love the floral print!

The cricut cut decals give it such a nice touch! Some of that pyrex is astronimical and really isn't worth the price....its getting trickier to piece together sets because of inflated reseller prices and goodwill for example sends a lot its stuff to their website completely bypassing retail stores...SO FRUSTRATING.
