This was so cool, and your enthusiasm is infectious! Everyone had such a good time, and I love that your default response when frightened is a very polite "No, thank you!" The costume head for Pirates of the Caribbean put their costumes in a cement mixer with water, dirt, and rocks in order to distress them. Small cement mixers can be rented for fairly cheap, so maybe an option for future projects? If you're running over things, the rougher the road surface, the better. A dremel or other electric sander will speed up your distressing time and save some hand and arm aches. Cut the fabric and then run it through the wash and hang to dry - this will make it more wrinkly and tendril-like than it would have been if it went through the dryer. This effect is magnified if the fabric is a loose weave; cotton gauze does some wonderful, horrible things when treated this way.

Thank you so much for the tips Janis! I will definitely keep that in mind for the future!

This was fun to watch, so I’m sure you had a blast doing it. I worked in our local haunted house for a few years until the property was sold. It was so much fun and a great fundraiser for our little community. Everything looked great from the set design and concept, makeup and special effects, actors, and of course the costuming.

I worked in costume for The Patriot. All the tri corn hats you see, were sanded down, to make them look old, was done by me. My only claim to Fame. 😂

What an exciting project to work on! I love haunted houses/roads/whatever. I love the adrenaline spikes from getting scared. I scream at the top of my lungs and then laugh.

Awesome!!! What an awesome side hustle. You could have put grease or oil on your tires before running over the clothes. Well, you might have stained your driveway then. Never mind.

Ghoulishly good. Although the pig farmer is probably going to be haunting me for the next while. Le Sigh. Happy Birthday month! Today I'm 53. Two days ago, Mister Husband turned 53 (country-wide blizzard?). Tomorrow is the 24th anniversary. And Thurs Mister Husband celebrates his second year being ordained a Vocational Deacon. Apparently we believe in doing things all at once... - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown

What a fun experience! I have costumed many theater productions and Halloween every year for the kiddos but I have never done costumes for a haunted house before. I have had kids work in them though, and to support them I will go see them but like you I dislike haunted experiences very much. They give me nightmares.

I'm having major flashbacks to working on Dracula (60 performances in 7 weeks. it was A Lot) and the intervention the liquor store tried to have with me when I worked summer stock and literally every show was period so I could only wash skins and /nothing else/. so much vodka. so much sweat. This is also Exhibit A as to why I'm not aloud to go to haunted things. I get very punchy and 0/10 do not enjoy. Love distressing, love FX makeup, do not like being scared

What a cool job!!! I DIED when you ran over the jeans with your car. I also hate haunted houses, I'm not allowed to go to them because apparently my instinct when I'm scared is to kick people, so you're reaction was very polite comparatively lol.
