Not bad for your first foray into GB programming, but things would've been a lot easier if you had used sprites and the window layer

@@mysticat The Game Boy has 3 layers, the background layer, window layer, and object layer (sprite layer). Your character uses a couple of sprites on the object layer, and your background layer contains your blocks and house and all the rest, so I think you've probably left the Window layer blank. You could move the inventory over to the window layer, which rests on top of both the background and object layer, that way it won't mess with any background tiles. But besides that, what it seemed like you were doing to add an item to the inventory was changing the tile's pixels. So you had to have unique tiles for each slot, that's pretty scuffed. What you should do is change the tile number at that position. You can do that by editing the value of that position in the tilemap in VRAM. Of course, I've never used Game Boy Studio to program the GB, so I'm not sure how low level you can get with it. But if you ever want help making a sequel, I'd be happy to lend any assistance if you have questions.

As a guy who loves retro/vintage tech and uses GB studio quite regular because im a Gameboy fanatic i can say you did a very good job at making Minecraft for the original Gameboy. But judging by Zelda games and Pokemon games you could technically add a basic NPC interaction/trade system with them and even different weapon combo's/attacks. If we were using a Gameboy Advance even more could be added like possible multiply dimensions more blocks/tiles better color in over 256 shades of color, more trading, small structures and even technically some but very limited skin customization plus the biggest of all you could have way more detailed textures due to its ability to render up to 64/64 pixel resolution sprites. Also a Gameboy color could render proper colors instead of the green and gray of the original Gameboy so you could have possible added some color variation to the game. The Gameboy color can render 56 colors in total. But still this was epic and i think it fits the theme and aesthetic of Gameboy games and kinda reminded me of the Legend of Zelda Links awakening.

i find breath control to be key. what my trainer at SVL taught me is focus in an order: pitch -> breath -> nasality -> volume try hitting the highest pitch you (comfortably!) can: aim for a D3-D4 range, and only afterwards, add breath control to see if your pitch goes up.
