Here to highlight a few key tips from your comments! I can't tell you all how much I appreciate that every time I upload I Iearn new things about sewing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! - to achieve a very invisible zipper: consensus seems to be gently ironing the teeth to uncurl the edge and using an invisible zipper foot (I was just using a regular zipper foot) - to achieve a straight bottom hem: hang the garment for at least a day before trimming the bottom because the bias cut might relax according to gravity - what is bias: if you think of fabric as a grid of woven threads, often clothing is cut with the gridlines running horizontally and vertically. Bias, however, is when the fabric is cut so the gridlines are running diagonally. Another way of putting it is that often clothing is cut with the threads in a + orientation, but bias has the threads in an x orientation. At 2:56 I folded the fabric together at a 45° angle to get the threads in the x orientation

Omg. The grey one is perfect. As a more busty girl I can never get a “classic” cowl (like the champagne one) to work. It always look like a pouch to keep snacks, protruding very awkwardly, and giving me even more top volume (not flattering when you’re already too heavy). The darts and the more modest draping is lovely. I wish I had the confidence to sew like that. I need a tutor.

Hey Wendy! I’m a fashion major and the way we were taught to sew in invisible zippers was to first take the zipper and press the teeth! The teeth of the invisible zippers curl a bit to help hide it better, but it’s not always easy to sew close enough to the teeth because of this. I unzip it and flip it right way facing down and the use the tip of my iron to flatten that curve near the teeth so it’s laying as flat as possible. Then when you use your zipper foot it’s easier to get closer to the teeth. Hope this helps!

Then fold the seams outward and place ur zipper in the center. Sew as close to the zipper as possible and then remove the stitches that attached the seams together. Your zipper closure will truly be invisible! This tip helped me loads!
