Reminder that scoville heat units is a measure of concentration/dilution. Adding a tablespoon of 9M SHU pepper paste to a cup of vinegar will dilute the SHU by a lot.

Reminder that scoville isnt a measure of concentration/dilution, but a subjective scale of felt heat. As capsaicin is fat soluble, 100k sauce with no fats doesnt feel as hot as 70k sauce with a lot of fats. But yeah, diluting 9m sauce with vinegar will drop down the felt heat unless you consume all of it.

@@MrWerd.That's how i've survived every chili challenge i've done. Just getting it done as soon as physically possible, so i only have to suffer badly once. It's much harder to go back to an extreme heat after coming off a big wave of heat. When eating actual chilies it's a better strategy to chew really well because large chunks are guaranteed to cause much worse stomach cramps.

That misshap with the burger patty and sauce. Ugh. I've done something very similar before, and I know just how bad it can be. I wanted to make concentrated soup stock so that I could meal prep hot soup for a few days. I loaded it with hot peppers and powders and hot sauce, then let it reduce whilst I went a couple of rooms away and played a few games of cod. I came back to a kitchen full of vapors that genuinely felt like I was snorting broken glass with each breath. I managed to kill the heat before running away and opening every window in the house.

I think it boils down to the reason why you're eating. To try it out? Yeah, it burns like hell. To show you can do it? It still burns like hell but you can power through. To win something? This is one of those challenges that I find inspiring on multiple levels. I'm gonna definitely make some habanero glazed bacon, loosely based on Josh's recipe, in honor of these heroes. Not gonna lie, spiciness aside, that burger looks really tasty. Although if you want to do another one of these, I just thought of a potential super spicy pizza recipe: the “Now That’s a Spicy Meatball” pizza (apologies to anyone who might be offended by that name). The main topping would be meatballs with diced chilies mixed in (dealer’s choice, but I’d personally try habaneros since ghost or higher would probably be hard to find for me) and coated in extra spicy hot sauce. Then the other toppings would be pepperoni and jalapeño slices, and you can spice up the other pizza elements however much you’d like. Let me know what you think.
