Made this last year, It was supposed to be ready for October but it was rank. Left if (forgot about it) and was taking out the Christmas decorations when I seen it at the back of the shed. Tried it and low and behold it was absolutely beautiful. I must have under carbonated it for the Pressure Barrel. Although it was perfect from the barrel I decided to keg it and used the Guinness /nitrogen gas on it. That just added the finishing touches to it. Just made up a new batch today 👍

Great to see you brewing your own beer, Fred. I've been doing it for 20+ years now and love it. I make extract kits and all-grain beers - I'm no snob though, I'll drink 'em all. Really good to see you had success on your first attempt. Beer kits are so much better these days and you can make almost any beer you fancy. Cheers!

I’m so glad I came across your video. I’m half way through brewing this. I read the instructions wrong though, I assumed it was 10 days fermentation in total (7 days, add hops and then 3 further days) but I now see it’s 10 days after hops. So glad I am not about to ruin the whole thing by bottling a week early. Looks like a really nice end product, I’m looking forward to the first one.

Very entertaining video. Two quick comments. Clear bottles are a problem for hopped ales. Light (UV) will "skunk" the aromas and flavors. You really need to package hopped beers or lagers in green glass or plastic but not clear or brown. The other thought is that you really need to sanitize any container or tool that touches the wort (the liquid before you pitch (add) yeast. In brewing there is a hot side and a cool side and MYO kits would seem to remove from the brewer any work on the hot side. When the temperature of the wort is significantly below boiling (100 C or 212 F), the wort becomes a heaven for all kinds of mold and bacteria which will spoil or sour the ale, even with the addition of hops. I am surprised that MYO kits do not include sanitizers (unless, of course, they did but you never mentioned that very critical part of brewing your own beer). Your first experience just after you left secondary (high school) suggests that you never sanitized any equipment. Here's a third comment. For the record, Marmite is made from cooked yeast. The liquid malt extract is made from roasted malted barley. Malting is the process of allowing the barley seeds to grow roots about the same length as the grain, after which the maltster dries the grains to halt the germination and then roasts the grains in kilns at about 220 F (or higher) to produce the kinds of flavors and colors we know and love as beer or lager. Malting produces enzymes in the grain that the brewer uses to convert the starches in the grains into fermentable sugars. The liquid malt extract that you mixed with the water was essentially the extracted sugars the enzymes had converted at the MYO brewery.
