Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 - Intro 1. 0:04 {Confession Time} What did Mike get wrong about Genesis 2, relating to the topic of polygamy? 2. 9:16 {All Things vs. All This Through Christ?} The NIV changed Philippians 4: 13 from I can do "all things" to "all this" which makes more sense to me in context. Do you think "all things" has been misused historically? Will other translations follow? 3. 14:52 and 19:57 {Unforgivable Sin in The Didache?} In the Didache, judging the spirits wrongly was included as the unforgivable sin. Could you explain why you think that is not the case? 4. 17:17 {Apathy vs. Anxiety} I have a lot of guilt/shame about not suffering for Christ the way missionaries and the persecuted church do. How do I find the balance between lukewarmness and anxiety that I'm not doing enough? 5. 27:27 {Can We Live More than 120 yrs?} How come people live more than 120 years when God said we wouldn’t in Genesis 6:3? 6. 30:39 {Spiritual Power?} How can I argue biblically against the idea that we gain personal power/status in the spiritual realm by being full of the Spirit, and how does this relate to abiding in Christ & James 5-16? 7. 37:51 {Advice for Depression & Spiritual Dryness} When I was a teen, I had depression leading to a suicide attempt. Through God I'm still here, married, and have a family. I read/study the Bible and pray, but I feel lost and far from God. Advice? 8. 42:17 {The Doctrine of Impassability} Can you help me understand the doctrine of impassability a little bit better? It's confusing for me, and I'm not sure how to relate to the Lord and bring Him my pain, knowing this doctrine. 9. 47:11 {Balancing Ministry & Family} As a young youth pastor, I am struggling to balance my desire to fully invest time and energy into ministry, with also being married with 2 young boys (2 and 1). Can you give some good principles here? 10. 51:31 {If Trump Wins, Were the Prophets Right?} If Donald Trump gets elected this year, does that somehow validate any of the false prophets from 4 years ago who prophesied that he would have a second term?

This is part of why Mike is my favorite Bible teacher, because he doesn't gloss over mistakes, even small ones!! The issue he mentions about internalizing poorly taught scripture is so real and is why I stopped reading the kjv when I left mormonism. Something about that translation makes all the heresy come back to me. When I read it with a fresh translation it helps me see it with new eyes. 😊

If you’re going to split hairs about a single word perhaps you should choose the correct spelling of a word such as “strife” when it should be the word “strive”, a mistake by you in one language. You’re guilty of the “pot calling the kettle black” while bringing attention to someone’s mistake in more than one language. I spoke 4 languages, 2 fluently, by age 6 when I was first brought by military adopted parents to the U.S. to live and I guarantee that certain words don’t directly translate. For example Kindergarten which is a German compound word created for preschool that was’t originally mandatory. I refused to return to Kindergarten after my first day while my father was stationed in Germany. I was born 1/2 Japanese speaking Japanese when first adopted in Okinawa by an American man & his French born/raised wife who was later stationed in Germany. So I still remember a few Japanese words that I didn’t know they weren’t English until after I married. My new husband couldn’t understand when I asked him where my gaites were when looking for thongs because when I spoke 4 languages I spoke all 4 in the same sentence. My mother understood me but I made myself stay in English when my father was home. He was grateful for my German when a salesperson came to our door and needed a translator 😊I am 70 and wish I had learned Greek & Hebrew.

Day 2 of asking Mike Winger to engage directly with Terran Williams and Andrew Bartlett about Women in Church Leadership, preferably over livestream
@MikeWingerАй бұрын
Save yourself a lot of time friend. I’m done with a project that sucked two years out of my life. I don’t intend to keep going back and forth. I think my work stands on its own and that the criticisms of Williams and Bartlett are insufficient to significantly change that. I did address some of their work in my last videos of the series, offering quotes and refutations. Otherwise, I’m moving on. I always, and I mean always, have people who want to debate me and do dialogues and back and forth on projects I have already completed. If I say yes then I will never move on to other projects. In my honest opinion, a thoughtful person is not likely to be swayed by their papers on me, unless they fail to check the actual context of the things they claim. The real reason I’m being pressured to help platform them has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with attention.
@5MadMovieMakersАй бұрын
@@MikeWinger I wish I had as much time and resources as God does to fight for women sharing the gospel. I’m not reaching out to you to promote myself, and I don’t believe others are engaging with you for selfish reasons either. I don’t put my face in my videos or thumbnails if I can help it, but a number of Christian scholars that aren’t celebrities or influencers or vloggers are unhappy with the way you’ve interacted with their work and they don’t have the platform to visibly refute you on KZbin. I’m sorry if I’ve poked a sore point, but if you’ve found something that was truly good in your studies, you would want to share it with everyone you met enthusiastically, instead of saying you’re open for feedback and then shutting the door when you want to have the final say. We’re all going to have to answer to God about our own actions someday, and I sure don’t want to rope off any area of my life and say “I’m done with that, God has no more work to do with me there.” But if you want to say “I’m good, no more”, then that’s up to you. God refuses to leave women in the dust, even though their fellow humans have been doing that for thousands of years. Our church just decided to confirm women as pastors since Jesus and Paul want ALL believers to chip in however they can, but some of my friends are looking to you for their lead. Thank you for responding to me, I know you and I both have finite resources so I appreciate the time.

I taught preaching at a small college in Ohio. One of the most significant lessons I taught (that the Lord gave me) Be mindful of everything you say from the pulpit. Make sure it is true to Scripture because there are some who will take YOUR words to the grave, whether it’s biblically sound or not. IE. Someone holds a mistaken view of Scripture, and you can show them directly from the Bible that it’s wrong, but they will say “I’m not sure about what that says, all I know is my PASTOR taught me this.” And they will take the pastors words to their grave. THAT, to me is the scariest thing about being a preacher.

At minute 38. ( question #7 ). Good answer Mike. Depression can be caused by a simple chemical imbalance, or brought on by any number of things. ( loss, grief,prior or current abuse, etc ) Depression can alter or suppress our understanding, and/or our experience of God in our life. Incorrect theology can also mess us up. ( Listening to Mike Winger will help, although nobody is 100% correct ). I lived under a “Reform/Calvinistic” theological cognitive dissonance for many years. As I started studying our scriptures, without the Augustinian-Calvinistic lenses, I began to understand how present, intimate, and loving, that our God is, in all of His Three Persons. Learning to live in the love, joy, peace, presence, and strength, of The Holy Spirit, has radically changed my life. I still take an antidepressant every day, but also experience the peace and presence of our transcendent God in my life. Besides the Bible ( in 3or 4 translations ), a book that might help is “ Maximum Faith” by George Barna. Written in 2010 +/- , it is available on Amazon. Blessings in the journey.

Good job on addressing the 1st Q where you correct a previous mistake. Pastors don't often do this, and I am glad when it does happen. We all make mistakes, have a temporary confusion on a matter or misspeak on something, but once an error is found, it is good to go back and clear that up, so that people don't go forward being confused by something incorrectly said. Part B to that issue is I guess Adam at least had to go for a swim when dealing with the water-based animals. >>;=) Great session as always; I enjoy watching your 10 Questions; the audience really comes up with some deep and good questions too. • Regarding the thing about persecution, I think the only add I would've had is that God is graceful; He doesn't desire that we suffer, so a lack of persecution or other stresses aren't necessary for us to be with God in how we live our lives, but it is a blessing if we are following the Lord and things are running smoothly for us. I feel that that is a gift He can and does also grant us, but shall yet bless us even if we face much hardship in our Earthly life yet endure and praise God through it. I get sad when people feel like "misery" is a prerequisite to being right (or right as we can be) with God. We have to be spiritually/mentally prepared for the worst, but also thankful for the blessing when all is well. >>:=)

It's so refreshing when a pastor (leader, teacher etc) admits when they are wrong, made a mistake and apologises. My family and I have recently got out of a cult-like religious group where the leaders had no accountability, and even when someone pointed out a mistake or blatant lie, we were gaslighted, manipulated to thinking we were in the wrong for questioning the leadership and made to feel bad, and we were to repent for questioning them. Thankfully we got out after a terrible incident where my adult daughter became suicidal, and it became obvious the leadership didn't care - which led to us realising and waking up to what had been happening over the years. Praise God my daughter is still alive, but after 6 months of a nightmare, following her up and down the country contacting doctors, police, etc etc preventing her from jumping off a cliff (literally), she did eventually cut off all communication with us (she is still very unstable in her thinking - but we still love her and pray for her) and throughout all of this - not one person in leadership gave us any support, in fact we were even blocked from the prayer group online. Anyway, I say all this to say, I appreciate you being accountable.

I love to hear when you hold yourself accountable to the scripture. Sad, but happy story my mom just told me, for a mistake I made, that everybody makes mistakes. I don't remember the last time she ever told ME that, but thank God : 1) cause she didn't get mad. 2) So I can share with you that everybody makes mistakes, but God is good. ❤❤

Beautiful example, and yes totally happens to all if us. I love that you are sharing this example of the importance of correcting ourselves when we get it wrong.

Thank you. Yes, in Bible Institute we spent two days on the problem of interpretation by going with what others taught us without vetting it thru study, thru catreful exegesis. People were crying at the end. It is difficult to question what we've been taught.

Thank you, Mike! Love the honesty. And in ALL respect, as a fellow Christian and complementarian, I think you (accidentally) did the same in Gen 1-3. Reading hierarchy into the narrative was something I automatically did very recently until some intense reading and prayer changed my mind on it. Still complementarian for now, just thought I'd throw that out there in case you saw it!

Mike, u even teach us how to say sorry WHEN (NOT IF) we make a mistake. Blessings and love and thanks and respect from Canada!

I forgive you for your mistake. Thank you for correcting it. I heard you say that and thought, "huh, that sounds weird..." But I was driving while listening to your stream and I forgot to look it up later. It's good to know you are humble enough to admit your mistakes, no matter how minor.

I appreciate your humility. This is such a common problem in Christianity people just taking what they heard as scripture without proving it out. This is why it is so important for teachers to be precise in teaching only what the Bible directly teaches lest they pervert the word of God.

You don’t have to be embarrassed, we all make mistakes, and you handled it the right way, by admitting it and bringing it up instead of trying to hide it. That is why we trust you as a teacher.
