Welcome aboard!
If you have watched the My Expense in Dubai as a Pilot video • My Expenses in Dubai a... you will be familiar with what is waiting for you in this video. Yes, you are right! In this video, I'll be talking about my expenses in the U.S. This video will be my first-ever video from the U.S. Since I moved and started living in Texas in May 2023, I thought this video could be a good benchmark for foreign pilots about life expenses in the U.S. As usual, you can communicate with me through comments. I would appreciate if you like and share this video as well as subscribe my channel.

Hi Caner, thanks for this interesting video about your expenses here in the United States. It is a great benefit that the state of Texas doesn't have any State Income Tax. Good thing that you didn't move to California as they have an extremely high State Income Tax. The fact that you haven't had to pay to charge your care is awesome as well. They say with the cost of electricity it is very expensive to charge an electric car. Glad that you found a nice Apartment complex to live in the Houston area and things are working out well for you.
@CanerAcarbay
@CanerAcarbay 9 ай бұрын
Hey Ben, yess I tried to avoid California. If I wanted, I would be based in LAX or SFO. However cost of living on CA is too high. Actually, In tesla App you can see how much you saved by charging your car compare to traditional Gasoline cars. Based on my current data I would have paid 99 USD if I had to pay on my own. Based on the milage and same class car, I would have spent 323 USD for the GAS. Electric cars still cheaper (99 USD vs 323 USD)

Very good video-I believe is a perfect guide for a pilot who wants to reallocate in US. Especially for the pilots who live in the Gulf region -where salary packages are always pretty good. I agree that at your age you need to have a long term vision and not dealing only with the first two years low salary in US. But I don’t know for how long you will be able to “squeeze “ so much your monthly flying hours in order to get the days off needed for your commuting back to Turkey . I mean the fatigue due 6-1&6-1 roster is too much if you add up the jet lag back and forth in Turkey.Maybe now as you are in the first months working in US , is still doable but in the long run might be a problem. But this is something personal and you know how to handle it. I wish you safe flights!

Hello, Thanks for such a long and constructive comment. 6-1 was an example. For instance, In August I had 7 off -3 on -2 off- 3 on - 1 off - 3 on - 2 off - 3 on - 3 off - 3 on. There is still time to rest. Also, most of the flights are daytime. Therefore they are not that tired compared to red eyes. You can check my schedule from here :) As you mentioned, in the long term I won't be doing this strategy. This is the beautiful part of flying in the US. You can get whatever you want as long as your seniority allows it. www.caneracarbay.com/ucus-takvimi/

Thanks Caner, Great video. I have one question I have had a hard time finding an awnser too. As an airline pilot, if you want to work less to have time for side projects, are you allowed to drop trips and just accept to make less money in order to consistently get lighter schedules (8-10 flying day a month) ? thank you in advance.
@CanerAcarbay
@CanerAcarbay 9 ай бұрын
Hey, There are couple of ways to achieve what you are aiming for. You can drop flights (if there is enough coverage), you can drop flights (assuming good trips that people would like to pick up from you), you can bid for reserve and try not to fly. These are only couple of options and all of them are related with your relative seniority in the base. It's not hard but not easy especially when you are a new hire!

In one of your videos you mentioned an FO with experience earns around 40-50k usd per month . How is that possible with hourly rates in the range of 200 usd even with experience?
@CanerAcarbay
@CanerAcarbay 8 ай бұрын
Hey, as I mention previously, It’s an extreme case and It’s not their salary. If your flight (20hours worth) is bought off by the company and you are awarded a day off, now on these days off, you pick a flight that pays 100% premium, and you are getting paid 20 hours for a long range 3day trip. You will get paid 60 hours on a 20-hour trip. If your hourly rate is 300 USD. You can make 18,000 USD from a 3-day trip.
