Espero llegar a un punto más seguro monetariamente para poder contratar a alguien 😊 Sigue siendo tan bacán, y me alegro mucho que te esté yendo muy bieeeen! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank so much for the video, Fran! You are so right - it is so hard to find information on hiring staffs. I was so swamped a little over a year ago with my Etsy shop that I missed out on a huge order. I was overwhelmed and very sad. After discussing about the situation with my husband for a few days, he decided to quit his job to join me full-time. Best decision we made, ever! And last year, I also hired a virtual assistant to help me with listing new products on my website because I didn't have time to do it. I think virtual assistant is a good way to go if we aren't ready to hire a full-time staff or have someone comes into the home to work with us (I lived in a tiny studio apartment, so no space for staff). And, they can be hired on hourly basis, so they are pretty affordable.

It was a very good video. As a person who helped with hiring/training staff, I wasn't bored with all the details :) . In many companies you'll have yearly appraisals, which helps setting future goals and such. Also, if you can, having a trial day for future assistant is a good idea - even few hours spent together can help with making right decision. Can't wait for graphic novel details, so excited!!! :D

Hi Fran, thanks so much for this video. I have a rather uncomfortable question, well it feels a bit uncomfortable to ask, but thinking of hiring someone makes me nervous concerning the payment. I mean there is a moment in a freelancer’s life when it feels like there is too much work and a need for someone to help but still maybe not enough money to pay someone else properly... when do you think comes the point or when it happened to you when you have to risk to spend money you maybe don’t really have to pay an assistant for allowing you a better chance to grow WITH this help of the assistant and in the end to have MORE money BECAUSE of the help... it sounds so complicated, sorry. But do you know what I mean?? Did you have these issues and thoughts too? I would be very interested to hear your opinion about this. For me it is so difficult because I’m fully booked and have no time to do more but also think it’s not enough to pay a salary for someone else, so it seemed there is no chance to grow, although I have so many ideas for other ways to use my illustrations. Well I will find a way somehow but would love to hear your opinion. Thanks so much, hugs from Vera
@CassRudolph6 жыл бұрын
Vera Schmidt I’m in a similar spot as you. Too busy that you need help but not quite comfortable profit wise to afford hiring someone consistently. I started billing clients on projects that could make use of an assistant for the days I’m working on those projects and no one seems to mind so far. I maybe have someone helping me 3 times a month but it’s helpful, even if they’re just doing admin work or moving gear for me.
@veraschmidt50986 жыл бұрын
Cassandra Rudolph wow, thanks for your answer, it’s good to hear that I’m not alone and I appreciate it very much. Yes maybe it’s a good way to start small and just hire someone for 3 days a month and see how the profit really is. I should think about it. :-)
@CassRudolph6 жыл бұрын
I would do as Fran mentioned to make a list of all the things you could use help with and see what can be done in a few days a week? or on one specific project. Another thing I know some people do is they hire someone to take care of their personal task list, like they have a cleaner come in twice a month to clean the house (which is usually less expensive than an assistant for work) or have someone go buy their groceries. It means you have more time to work and less time dealing with things in the way.
@veraschmidt50986 жыл бұрын
Cassandra Rudolph yeah that’s something which doesn’t work unfortunately. I have a cleaner but only drawing without doing personal stuff like going to the grocery store or just sniff a bit fresh air from time to time leads me to burnout. 😂 but thank you for all the tips! 😊

in America, when you pay them without insurance and retirement, people with pay them "under the table" meaning it's off the records and the no one is taxed, but there's no contract and no benfits. So you're way better than most employers in America, you're paying for someone for reals.

How do you know when your business is ready to hire someone? I also feel like I am very bad in delegating :) I often feel like I can not do everything on my to do list all alone, but I feel it is so difficult to find out what kind of skills I am looking for in the person who helps me? Is it someone who can help me with finishing my jewelry-orders, so a technical skilled goldsmith, or someone who knows how to use Social media and can help me with my Etsy shop? Both things in 1 person? But if someone can do all of this, why would they want to work for me and not just have their own business... maybe I am overthinking this...
