This is super helpful. I'm planning a writing challenge, given that since graduating uni I haven't been able to do any of my own creative writing, and it's terrifying. I'm afraid I won't be able to commit or that I'll realize I've turned into an absolutely awful writer. The discussion about motivation, the "why" struck a cord with me and I really think asking myself this will help. Thank you for this video!

Yeah. I did Inktober last year and learned sooo much! It was really fun too. Sometimes struggled with coming up with ideas, but then I would just keep it simple and finish and usually by the next day I would have ideas again. Very rewarding.

You know what? Your shirt designs are great for kids and tween shirts. Especially the colors! Some of the designs are great as well-spaced patterns. ♡ push it forward! Test selling a few of your designs. Make a poll which 5 designs your audience wants to buy? 😀

I love your short hair much better than longer, looks so great on you!!! And yes the pressure of making a 30 day challenge is crushing sometimes but you're awesome and you made it congrats! Keep the great content! The only challenge I ever made was inktober in 2015 and I remember I had to travel in-between and I fell behind so I kind of kept going with a gap in-between because I really wanted to learn to ink better, it was very helpful even though I couldn't finish it completely. Love the T-shirts so much I wish I could have one!

Watching you do your t-shirt challenge really motivated me to do a challenge too (28 days because I did it in February). I definitely agree that having a list beforehand is super helpful. I'm at day 16 and I do my drawings daily so sometimes it's hard to come up with the next drawing. So having a list gives me someplace to pick from. I didnt create a full list for each day, but I add items to them as I'm inspired to ensure I have options. You're so right, after 2 weeks it starts to get harder but I'm digging in and really do enjoy it. Thanks for this video Fran, took some notes for the next challenge!

Great advice, I found starting off simply at first keeps you from burning out. I'm currently doing the 100 days of making comics challenge, I did to push myself to work on my comic. I look forward to your videos every week.

A mí me pasó en mi primer Inktober (porque fueron 31 dibujos y 31 videos) que ya finalizando me enfermé de una manera repentina, me dio como un resfriado que no me dejaba ni hablar, y obviamente era algo derivado del challenge, porque nunca había hecho algo así, y aunque estaba contenta con lo que estaba haciendo, mi mente y mi cuerpo me estaban pasando factura. Ya en el segundo Inktober no me pasó, le bajé intensidad a qué tan ambiciosa quería ser con los dibujos y me fui por algo más sencillo, así que no me pasó nada y todo feliz, haha. Y es verdad, cuando entras en el mindset de este tipo de challenge de repente los primeros días son un poco flojos, pero tan pronto tu mente "calienta", por así decirlo hahahha, es un flujo constante de ideas. Y no sólo de ideas, sino que no tienes tiempo para descartar nada y hasta te obligas a ti misma a no ser tan exigente y probar cosas que, de tener tiempo para pensar demás, no las harías. No sé si me explico, pero a mí me encantan estos retos de un mes, siento que sacan esa creatividad como nada en el mundo; tienen su precio, pero valen la pena ♡

Hey Fran!! I love your videos - they are so familiar and motivating. I've watched so many recently. A question - when you started to do illustration, did you know what direction you wanted to go in? Did you always know you wanted to Graphic novels, or were you focused on other things? I love illustration but I'm definitely an overthinker and i'm struggling with knowing what kind of work to do and to what end - my insta is all over the place, no one style/theme etc and I feel like it's because I don't really know what I want to get out of it, aside for the hours spent actually putting pencil to paper... could you talk about this in a video maybe? Or have you talked about it in the past? xxxx
