England has become stricter than our English speaking neighbors over the Atlantic and also non English speakers on the continent. One example would be it's cannabis laws. Fully legal in most of these countries, but here not many English politicians support it. If they are like that about cannabis then they are going to be excessively strict about other categories of life too. Cos some people have a stereotype of English people being strict, and it's one of those stereotypes that has a lot of truth in it

I read the 1984 book in the early eighties. Today, it’s more relevant than ever, and pretty frightening to be able to relate to situations today. You are absolutely spot on, with your analysis of today’s life in the twenty first century. How on earth did it get to this situation. I was also raised in Barnsley and to this day, like James I make a lot of humorous comments with a dry delivery. And round Barnsley they are understood, but don't always translate in some places that aren't used to dry humor. It just shows me how limited people's intelligence must be when they cannot even figure out when something is being said as a joke

I'm going back 27 years mind. Someone told me "Peters" is still there - their food was incredible, people used to rave about "The Magic Roundabout" for food but I thought Peters had some of the nicest tapas I've ever had. Fantastic but crazy times! ✌

It’s amazing that in todays electronic society that people can’t seem to grasp that people are self deprecating at times, they tell jokes, these idiots can’t tell the difference between things like documentaries and shows, and reality, they don’t realise they have off buttons on these things, that they don’t have to watch things if they don’t like them. The part that annoys me is that when Ytube demoetises videos it still often shows adverts but the creators receive no revenue from it. Ytube is a dying platform, that is for sure.
