I’m 73 not in very good health anymore, having difficulties walking and I have an 8 year old shepherd. I made arrangements a couple of years ago in the event of my death or becoming totally disabled that I know where and to whom my dog will go to and be cared for. You MUST make plans for your pets! You take care of your pets like you would take care of any loved one!

I’m so glad that you spoke up for her. How awful. That’s one thing I never even thought about. There are so many things that are happening behind the scenes that people don’t see. My gosh 😢. Lee, I'm a 82yr old retired nurse/teacher. I worked around and with people for 54yrs before retiring. I enjoyed exposure to the public. Now, I have family members working in nursing/teaching, etc. They go home exhausted, as attitudes have drastically changed for the worse. Lee, many in humanity have taken a huge step into negativity. For years was involved with rescue but now old ill and try to do what I can on a li.itrd income. My hope years ago when active in rescue that things would get better and worked tirelessly ....unfortunately, I see things as worse than before from a society that is more selfish and feelings of entitlement. Thank you Rebecca for your compassionate heart ❤️.... I too found myself in the same situation 7 days ago. My sons girlfriend works with this person who wanted to put the dog down. They just went straight to that as their solution, not even trying to reach outside for other options. Thankfully we are in a position to take her and make her part of our family. She's not even 2 and they wanted to end her life before it even began... I could not allow that to happen to her We have had her for 7 days now and she's fitting in with our other 2 fur babies and the household , and she's so sweet that I thank God that I was their to take her away from that situation .

Having communicated with Rebecca during the difficult process of finding help for Sunny, I can say without a doubt that she is one of the most gracious, empathetic, and patient humans ever. Although she was buried under a mountain of requests for help, she took the time to offer resources and advice, and never once made us feel like we needed too much from her, even though it was obvious that we were merely one of THOUSANDS of emails she deals with every month. She is dedicated, organized, focused, and mission driven to do the best she can for the greatest number of dogs that she can. She's the one who sorts through all the heartbreaking stories and desperate pleas, and she offers everything she can. She is a tremendous asset to The Asher House and deserves love, respect, and even applause for the kick-ass job she does under such difficult circumstances.

Dear Lee, this subject has come up before, and doubtless other high profile rescues receive similar requests. I know Takis in Crete does. Of course you're absolutely correct in saying these requests are likely to be from irresponsible, uncaring owners. All animal lovers, especially your helper Rebecca for instance, are bound to be affected by hearing of pets suffering. It's cruel to both humans and animals that some people use emotional blackmail rather than solve the situation themselves. Goodness knows, most rescue services must be working long and hard enough every day, without such unnecessary and upsetting intrusions. I'm sure your regular followers are glad that you are making this plea - in your always charming and thoughtful manner - that there are FAQs and other info accessible on your channel.
