Scott, I am a silent one, don’t say much. But here I have to speak up. I have been watching you for many years now. Dude, my hats off to you and yours. You are a inspiration to me. Just wanted to say Thank you! Oh and as far as a rod goes…..:6’ 2-6’6”. Medium/heavy. I would jump on and purchase one of them right now! I’m kind of a accident waiting to happen when I’m out on the water, but somehow I keep coming back dry, just usually have a broken tip, or right in half! 😳. Much love man. Keep the videos coming!

If I had to replace my bass pro spinning/ or bait casting. I’d build a multi purpose rod one that would take care of it all regardless of lures flip,cast, that way your not tripping on rods in the boat. I personally like medium heavy. Not telephone poles. You want something that won’t wear out your wrist or fore arm. For a bait caster smoother the better. Maybe a reel that has anti back lash capabilities so if it’s windy. Plus for any new fisherman that’s new to bait casters. They can cast without having to worry about the line bird nesting. Spinning super long casts super smooth retrieve and a drag system so for monster fish the drag will self adjust so it won’t break of the fish. You can dial it in close the reel finites the rest [smart drag] I’d put line size on the rod recommended plus if you sell these rod/reels I’d do a combo that way your already matched.

Scott I’ve been a follower , guided with you and a big fan for well over a decade . I was so sorry to hear you and your family had Covid . I notice we had not seen much of you on the Tube , just thought you were taking some family break time . But you didn’t tell us where you thought you might have caught Covid and if you and your wife and your fishing partners on the tour had been vaccinated. You have a great channel and a lot of solid followers like me . If you were not vaccinated, after having Covid do you think your followers ( adults) should be vaccinated. Your advice might help a lot of people. Thanks-Scot

A 7'6" Flippin stick for getting over cattails on the North Shore. A 7'3" heavy for casting 12" wild shiners in the Monkey Box. And a 6'8" light heavy for Shellcracker fishing at Bird Island. Ok? Just my opinion...lol Love to use Favorite rods, anything ya'll come up with is quality!
@derrickwestfall20023 жыл бұрын
There’s already a 7’6” flipping stick. My guess is he will design something similar to the old okuma tcs 7’11” mat daddy rod. At least I hope he does. And wouldn’t a light heavy just be a medium heavy?
@russellwatters58913 жыл бұрын
@@derrickwestfall2002 In my opinion, a shellcracker rod needs to be stiff, but have a fast tip, for snatching them suckers off the beds...That way the other ones won't know what's happening, like shooting hogs with a suppressed .300 blackout. Lol
@Grimlock18323 жыл бұрын
It’s may not be your thing, but there are so many instances where I need and prefer a shorter rod. I see so many 7+ foot comments the the shortest I heard today was 6’10” but at times when I’m in a boat with a few people or fishing back in creeks or under heavy tree cover or I want to be REALLY accurate casting, I grab my 6’6” medium light and it always delivers. Mine is a spinning rod, but I know others that have a cranking stick at that length. Something to consider.

I have all of your okuma tcs rods and that lineup I thought was absolutely perfect. I have high end Shimano rods. G loomis and other staples in the rod game but I absolutely love the tcs 7’3 frog rod and The 2 mat daddy rods.

Since I understand that I’ve had problems with spinning rods and braid, then you did on the st. Lawrence I think a good fast action medium light rod, more of an inshore spinning rod action. My favorite rod for keeping them pinned on bass is a penn squadron III inshore 7’ 6” medium light fast action, it works well. Maybe a moderate fast spinning rod 7’ and it work amazing with 10-20 lb braid and a mono or flouro leader.

Hey Scott, im a big fan. Such a big fan that i decided to buy a Favorite phantom/sick rod combo because you endorsed them. But to be honest, ive never been more disappointed with a combo. First, when i recieved the rod the drag on the reel was completely stripped and wouldn't stay adjusted. After a long long time trying to get through to customer service, a.few days, i finally got a hold of someone who was very helpful and just sent me a new one without hassle. But then a couple months into having the combo i then had the rod snap in half on a cast of a 3/8 oz jig. I have never broken a rod in my life. I have been trying to get a replacement but they will not cover my shipping to return the broken rod, only the shipping for the replacement. Problem is shipping is like 60 to 100 dollars which is almost half of what i paid for the combo. Ive about given up on Favorite, but im so disappointed because this is the most ive ever spent on a combo and it has been nothing but problems. I'm not happy to inform you about this, but it is my reality. You and your father have been such inspirations to my fishing, but i cant believe how awful my experience with Favorite has been. Keep making great content

Hi Scott: I love to fish all types of fish. LMB, SMB, Northerns, Muskies and pan fish. So I have a problem. My favorite fishing at this time is for Crappie. So can you convince Favorite rods, with your help, to not make a great rod, but instead make a crappie rod? (Sorry pun intended.) How about a 6’2”, light, fast action, super sensitive blank at a price every fishing Grandpa can equip his grandkids without breaking the bank. Easy to cast for old guys like me, enjoyable to learn fishing as a kid and strong enough (with the right drag setting) to land a 5# bass. I can already hear the kids screaming with joy. The goal to get more kids into fishing and warm the hearts of all family members! By the way, I pray Hilary has a great first tournament and she doesn’t beat the boys to badly. I know you’ll have an amazing day. God Bless!

I'd like a 7ft 3 or 7ft 4 casting rod for fishing big Texas rigged worms, heavy finesse jigs (3/8 or 1/2),& magnum shakey heads! I fish lake west point, harding, Martin and eufaula and those techniques are what I use the most on those lakes

I'm up north and do a lot of drop shot fishing for smallies. If you did a 6ft 10" to 7ft 1" medium-light power, fast action spinning rod, I'd jump all over it. I have a couple older Dobyns Savvy spinning rods I use for this exact purpose, love them but they don't make em any more at least not the Savvy series. Can do drop-shots, lighter shaky heads, ned rigs, I even throw lighter jerk baits on it and they work great. Up in the northeast where I live, if I'm fishing for small-mouth, I'm finesse fishing most of the time. Spring/Fall when I like fishing for largemouth the most, it's hard to go wrong with a 7ft 3" medium-heavy fast action all-purpose rod for spinner-baits, texas rigs and even swimbaits. And then maybe something like a big stout punching rod.

Im just starting to get into fishing. In my humble opinion - Everyone who's INTO fishing prob has their ideal rods (what they can afford) Of course ppl will buy yours to support the channel. I think a $100 - $125 baitcaster combo would do well. I am ignorant when it comes to specs lol just give me/ppl something extremely versatile that we can cast from the bank and tie on anything (except the 9 in swimbaits etc) bc im sure that requires large everything. Ya, u may not make a killing on a lower end rod but it may be more fruitful in the long run because ppl will end up buying your higher end stuff the more they get into it or when they have the cash to spend. A lower end combo also makes a great gift, drop it early nov and ppl will buy em for their kids. Or do like a box set, include baits and the combo for cheaper. Food for thought 🤷♂️

Hi Scott! Love your channel. Subscribed to you, your Dad, and Hilary. Been watching your Dad and buying his books since the 1980s. Which Favorite rod would you suggest for drop-shot fishing lakes like Sydney Lanier? The water is deep and Bass tend to be in 15 to 55 feet of water at various times of the year. I notice that many KZbinrs cover shallow water fishing. It seems that most do. I mostly fish deep water. Lake Lanier has points that drop to 70 feet. There are underwater humps at 45 to 70 feet down. During the summer, the spots were at 35 to 55 feet. BTW: I’ve already loaded the Pro Series Favorite (7.0 Medium Heavy casting) into my shopping cart on Favorite’s web site. I saw your Dad using it to bank fish in Arkansas.

Florida bass rod is my number one desire for you to make. Call the fellsmere slayer? Second would be a very sensitive (for light jigs) rod for fishing deep in calm slow water. Something that could be used for walleye or smallmouth. The best of coarse now is the loomas but way too expensive.

Great video !! Excited to see the rods from Scott Martin and also Hilary's tournament on the St. John's. I never understood this whole rod specific thing. I know the diehards and elitists will chomp on that comment like a 10 lb. Largemouth but I just don't get it. Sure rods will very with their action, their balance, their capacities but to me it's all just a gimmick to sell more equipment by the manufacturer's. Believe me when I say I've bought rods and later on given them away, given them to my son, sold them, etc. For one reason or another, they just didn't perform the way I wanted. It wasn't that they weren't good rods. It was just an overall thing where maybe the manufacturer missed or cut corners on the guides or maybe an inferior reel seat or simply ... they just broke for no reason. I've had custom rods made and have also sold them. I've paid anywhere from $50 to $250.00 for some. On average, my rods cost around $100. Cost is a huge factor. Why pay for the name and hype when I can pay less for something that suites my needs and is of good quality. I also understand that cost is no object for some. For most of my fishing, I have 6'-0 to 7'-2" medium light, to medium rods. I have one or two 5'-0" and 5'-6" ultralight rods. Most if not all are fast action. I have one or two rods that are medium heavy as I do not live in an area that predominately produces catches of Largemouth, Smallmouth and pickerel in excess of 5 lbs. or more. I have them for throwing heavier or big baits lures is all. Are there bigger fish and I'm not catching them, sure, probably. I'm also not a professional angler. That being said, my rods can handle flipping, drop shot, crankbaits, jerkbaits, wormin' ...etc. I catch fish just fine. None of them are specific to any one type of fishing. I've been through a number of fishing rods in my years and have only in the past 10 years been upgrading to slightly better quality rods. Again, none are one type of fishing specific setup or purpose. My rod brands are predominately BPS, St. Croix, Ugly Stik, custom, and a few salt water names like Penn, Lamiglass, and Tsunami. When I pull a rod off the rack my priorities are first and foremost the build quality of the rod. Does it look like it has good components. Two, I look at the specs to see what the rod can handle for what I will be using it for. If I'm fishing for Stripers or Fluke in the Atlantic ocean, or fishing for Largemouth, will the rod handle the lure weights and the line I need. Three, the weight of the rod. Most rods today are super lightweight IF you buy quality. I don't want to be hurling or casting a tree trunk all day. Fourth and usually last ... if I really like the rod ... I look at the price. Let's say a rod costs, $79.99 and I really like it. I also found another rod and it's just feels that much nicer and seems to be a little better quality but it's costs $124.99. It's then that I weigh the cost over quality. I'll research reviews of others that have purchased both rods. I weigh the cost of spending another $45.00 for a rod that I know will last me a lifetime. I'm not one to replace fishing rods every few years like some people do. And that's fine. Unless they somehow completely reinvent the wheel ... my current rods will probably be my last. I'm only 55 ... so I have a few years left to fish. But I don't see my gear changing much. :-)

I enjoy how Scott's excitement seems to be like that of someone who seems to have made it himself in pro bass fishing. I truly would like Scott to make a video that explains how the average American, trying to become the self made fishing pro that Scott Martin is, becomes just that. I get that Scott considers him lucky to be born to a fishing icon, but my question is, "How do I, Darren Manicone, whose dad was the son of an Italian immigrant family from Lodi, New Jersey, become a fishing pro without being felt entitled to it? How do I Find sponsors? or how do I develop the capabilities to market rods that still have the seller tags on them come tournament day? Thank you so much for posting your video and hopefully you can respond honestly to my comment on what it takes for an average guy like myself(whose dad isnt already famous in filming/fishing bass tournaments). Btw if your response is to winning tournaments, than my next question is, "How did Scott Martin afford his truck, boat, and tournament fees wheb he first started?"

Off the subject, but you shoukd make a bass fishing guide book. What type of baits to use during different seasons, what rod and reels to use with what type of line, colors, ect. I coukd go on but you know what you would put in a begginers guide. Not a whole book but just a cheat sheet to keep in your tackle box! That would be so sweet to have. I know you do these videos on all this but to have like 4 baits and colors for each season, what rigs to set up, and where the fish are most likely to be durring certain temperatures would be awesome. I would have. Sell like hot cakes my brother!! Lol FR

And a little more give in the tip to load it up a little. Too many manufactures making the longer rods and stiffer tips for braid...give us finesse pitchers something.

Scott, you need an EMPEROR series style rod with your name on it.. I've always wanted an EMPEROR series but never got around to fund one.. Always see your dad fishing with them and loved them when I seen them

Good call trying to get back in shape. Regular cardio brings a calm to both mind and body, should help with decision making out on the water. I have been doing 90 minutes of hard cardio in the gym everyday for 7 years now, and if I can't make the gym now, I really feel lousy and a little tense.

I’m old school and would love to see a shorter pistol grip rod. Maybe 5’ 9” MH. Needs to be lite enough for all day one handed use.

Just watched a video about japanese made rod's and the guy was talking about omni directional spine and how important it was and that most japanese rod's don't have this what they have is usually called a directional spine that is usually oblong and generally pointed in the direction of the eye's, but the problem with this is that your sensitivity and strength only are felt in one direction which is limiting. The omni directional spine has full sensitivity in all directions and has strength in all directions, so no matter the direction of the bite you feel it. If theirs any truth to this it will be how I choose the next ten rod's that go in my rod locker. Hopefully favorite is looking into this.
