It is also super important to ensure that cats eat enough Taurine. If they have insuficient taurine levels, they have cardiovascular and retine deseases! Maybe you already know that, but I have seen brands that claim that their food have enough taurine even if they do not supplement it. If they do not provide a laboratory analysis I wouldn't trust them. Remember that cooking destroy a great amount of taurine. There is nothing bad to give your cats cooked meet if you supplement enough taurine! Without supplements it is dangerous :( the same goes for kibble and commercial wet food. "Complementary cat food" is not required to include suplemented taurine. It is good as a treat but not as a regular meal. Stay healthy cat lovers!

Naomi this is an excellent and extremely important addition as taurine is essential to a feline for optimum health!! I would like to add that just adding taurine is not enough. People need to do the work and understand "how much" taurine needs to be added to any given meal. Like cal/phos levels it is very important to understand this. If you can't put in the time for that work then, as you stated as a treat is fine but not as a regular meal.

Great video! I switched my Bengals to raw a couple months ago. Started w/ Darwin’s, then decided to use the 80/10/10 formula and, after a TON of research, invested in a great meat grinder and am now making the food myself. I am in complete control of the quality (and Darwin’s is great but crazy expensive). I think many veterinarians don’t recommend the raw diet bc people are out there doing all sorts of crazy stuff without adequate research (or comprehension of said research). A comment about re taurine is a good one. You want to use the dark meats if your protein is chicken bc the white meat will lack adequate taurine. I add even more water to the raw food. My cat’s urinary crystals are completely gone, their energy levels are through the roof, coats more shiny, and NO MORE SMELLY poop! Never looking back!!

Very well done video, and very good research! I feed my cat with both wet food and kibble everyday, twice. It's not just because of the money, but also because I want to keep her used to kibble as if I know I can't be home for dinner time I also know I can leave extra kibbles without warring about mosquitos or other nasty insects. It's also easier to adjust the amount of food for meals. But I always try to prioritize wet food over dry food.
@jousis_3 жыл бұрын
6:15 I'm sorry but this is wrong. wet food should not be in the same sentence as dry food here. Modern canning methods usually involve steam cooking. Even better, pouches are almost guaranteed to be cooked using low heat. And while it's true that some (water soluble) vitamins will be lost anyway, wet food should not be bundled with dry food. Manufacturers also (depending on the heat used) know exactly how much vit A/C/whatever is lost and compensate. The same goes about flavor enhancers. High quality cans/pouches have 0 enhancers. IMO, HOME PREPARED (and not prepackaged) raw food is better than wet food, but only because you choose the ingredients and prepare them instead of relying to a manufacturer. But, this could lead to other errors/dangers. You should forget about kibble and focus on high quality wet and then do a 1-1 comparison. in EU we have a lot of very high quality manufacturers, probably US has too.

I'm liking the raw food diet but soft food can lead to dental issues for cats. How do you cope with that? Do you have a How to video on teeth brushing?
@OutdoorBengal2 жыл бұрын
I don´t have anything about tooth brushing cats. I also don´t do it with Mia. She eats raw (with very little residue) and she often eats bones, which act as toothbrush. I have started researching about the topic and might do something about it. Will let you know if I do!

Hello again, the breeder we are purchasing a kitten from feeds raw and makes it himself. I will discuss his formula with him. I can get fresh organic raised lamb, chicken and beef. So I have access to the quality meat source. My question is what about training treats? I thought I saw a video at one time but I’m not able to find it now that I want to watch it. 😩

If you want to make it very easy, find a brand that you trust in the area where you live and start with the pre-made ones. I use Darwin´s (USA) and I love it. The link is in our bio.

Hey Albert, Mine's a persian kitten (4 months old) Out of 3 meals per day, I feed her afternoon meal with raw chicken(70%) cut into small pieces and kibble (30%). Morning & night meal are completely dry food (kibble) .. How to know if I'm doing it right or not? 😐
@OutdoorBengal2 жыл бұрын
Sounds great! I would just take a look at the nutritional value and try to make sure you are giving the right amount of calories. I am no veterinarian but recommendations range between 24 to 35 calories a day per pound.
@AntifekaPR3 жыл бұрын
What are you mixing the raw food with? I tried earthborn but my cat woke up throwing up in the middle of the night :/ I feel so bad :(
@OutdoorBengal3 жыл бұрын
It's normal that they throw up when switching to raw food if you do it too fast. I was mixing her regular food with raw for almost a month. First one fourth, then half, then 3/4ths and finally totally switched. It takes time, don't rush it! :)

Ok so what about when they are kittens? How much should they eat and how often?
@OutdoorBengal2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend you to ask your veterinarian for nutritional guidance. As a rule of thumb, while they are spayed and under 1 year of age they can eat as much as they want as they are very active and burn loads of energy and are growing. You should not feed raw if your cat is too young. Again, speak to your vet!! ☺️

Hey I have 2 kitten which are now almost 3 months old... The main problem is I've tried feeding one of my kitten dry food, wet food, homemade food, chicken but he don't really like to eat anything...this is a very big problem for me..if you could guide me on this it would be really helpful to me.. I'll be grateful to you. Hope to get a reply soon☺️

There are many things that could be creating this behavior. - Does the kitten have access to the outdoors? - Do your free feed them? - Are there any factors that might be causing stress?

Something I do when Mia gets picky is sprinkle freezes dried chicken on top… also? Try switching flavors, some cats prefer fish over meat and viceversa ☺️ How long has that one cat not been eating? Have you considered visiting a vet?

What brand do you use for your cats now that Life’s Abundance does not sell any? I just used last the last can I had to feed my cats. My boys have had nothing else in their lives. Life’s Abundance refuses to tell me a substitute to give my cats in the interim until they can supply their wet food. Would somebody be willing to PM me to let me know of a cat wet food to use that is “almost” comparable to LAs while I wait? That you all!

Great info as usual. :) Thanks for continuing to educate us on this important stuff. In case you didn't happen to see my comment on Patreon, I'll ask here as well. Do you happen to know the difference between feeding your cat raw meat vs say boiled? Ideally I was going to boil chicken and incorporate it into my cat's diet but I haven't been able to find any information on whether raw or cooked(with nothing added) is better for cats. I'm guessing it's probably raw, but not sure if that's actually true or if it's just because it's easier than having to cook it.
@juliac39333 жыл бұрын
Cooking eliminates most pathogen risk but you need to add a bit more taurine and b vitamins to compensate for what is lost by heating. It can also be better for cats with digestive issues because cooking gives a slight head start to the process of breaking down proteins into amino acids.
@FoxyFernAnimation3 жыл бұрын

Cats are euthanized every day because they can’t find a home but humans paying breeders to breed more cats? The question is: do you really love cats? If so how can you let this happen in a world you live in? Can you imagine the fear that a cat goes through before he/she is killed? If you can’t than put yourself in that situation.

I do apreciate that you are all for adoption. I also understand the context that gets people do things. Like being vegetarian, adoption is a choice, and there are many circumstances that might make someone not to do it. I am happy to discuss about this further if you feel like it.
