Great, thoughtful, and interesting review and discussion of this album. I absolutely love the album, and think it is just brilliant, from start to finish. Best album of the year, without question. It is so moving and powerful, with a nice variety of styles. The songs and production are exceptional, from the emotive and contemplative lyrics to the lush meticulously and intricately crafted soundscapes and instrumentation that are so fascinating on repeated listens and work so well (and the 2 different mixes gives even more to marvel at). Just a masterclass in music construction and production, and such a rewarding emotional journey (from somber contemplation to outright joy). I expected to prefer the more upbeat songs, but quite surprisingly, for me, it is actually the more somber contemplative songs that have become my favorites (Playing For Time, So Much, Love Can Heal), just so much depth and sophistication. I think that this is a masterpiece, and quite possibly his very best album (which is saying a lot as he has multiple standout albums).

I agree. Really like so many songs on a first listen which is so rare these days. I hate to say or think this, but it almost feels like a final masterpiece for PG's great career from the feelings I get listening to all the songs.

This was fun to listen to and almost makes up for him putting Yes' 90125 album second from the bottom and ranking Magnification at a ridiculously high #5 (!) Almost makes up for that but not quite. :)

Saw him live recently.....an incredible show. If anyone has a chance to see him on this tour, I would HIGHLY recommend it. Truly an artist. Tony Levin rocked it too.

Saw him in October (2023), saw Roxy Music in 2022. Only one left on my bucket-list is Brian Eno.

Best review I’ve watched on this album. I agree with most of what you said. But what I disagree with actually shows what a great album this is. Music is subjective. “Love can heal” was mentioned as the weakest track on the album…. But it is actually one of my favorites. I thought the crescendo build of the chorus was fantastic and had many nuances buried in there. Great review, thanks for taking the extra time on this one.

I kind of did the same thing with after seeing him live, something made a little more sense to me with the songs. The songs came more to life live, which isn't surprising.

I went into this without having heard any of the singles as i wanted to go into it fresh and with all of that wait, i would say it's absolutely worth it. Just fantastic songs, performances and production that i came to expect from the guy. I don't think this album is quite Up and Melt-worthy but it's close. All around, really great album.

Maybe I was an oddball but knowing I would be buying this album I didnt listen to any of the singles. In fact I dont listen to singles very often now that they release so many before the album is out.

I don't think you're the oddball. I know a lot of people who did that.

@@NotesReviews In terms of the album I thought it was tremendous. I did agree some of the back half felt too similar but all in all to get this quality of music after 20 years from a man in his 70's is pretty special. I liked Panopticom best because I thought that most sounded like his first few albums which were my favourite of his solo stuff.
