I was recently watching a vid by a fighter pilot and maintenence came up in a viewer question. The pilot explained that even with fighter jets, if the pilot flags an issue, maintenence will ask, "did you try turning it (whatever system) off and on again?" I prefer native gaming on amd and I always will the pure power really helps. Imo without dlss or ajy extra ai processing added amd will always win to me. I hate over processed images with jaggie lines. I think people have forgotten what relasitic sharpness is. People talk about color accuracy well reference viewers on movies also turn off extra processing as we want that normal image. You can always see an over processed image. To me dlss and even super resolution feels over processed. I just hate it boosts fps while adding different processing. I get people wsnt to point what looks better or not but it's not the best imo. So amd for me all day for native gaming lol

I still prefer native rven on my 3090ti but the benefits of fps from dlss and still getting very close to native is very nice. I really do love the hardware acceleration on nvidia. So yes I take back what I said it's Def much more polished now. I legit just got my 3090ti lol also native gaming on my 3090ti beats out the 6900xt so I'm happy af! Idc about price I'll pay for the best if it really is the best. As you see I'll be honest also if it is that good which it is. I'll just wait for the 5000 series to upgrade now also lol.

GN (Steve specifically) wants the audience to understand what the numbers mean, not just this thing makes frame rate go up by 2. Plus, my card is rendering in the highest possible details of the given game and not heating up or shortening it's life faster. In addition to that, my frame rate doesn't need to be competitive; I don't do PvP. I'm a casual sight-impaired gamer who plays to have fun, and getting my blind ass handed to me constantly isn't fun. That's why.

Hello Jay, thank you for including 1080p too in your tests. Unfortunately most of the other reviewers did not include 1080p in their tests for some unknown reasons when the Steam survey clearly showed that a big majority of players are in fact still on 1080p. People act like if you're buying an RTX 3080 or 6800 XT to play on 1080p then there's something wrong with you, when there are 240hz and soon to be available 360hz monitors on the market.

With a year of hindsight, Nvidia's ray-tracing hardware IS better, don't get me wrong, but it was nowhere even CLOSE to as far ahead as it initially looked at the RX 6000 series launch!!! Every single game with real-time RT at that time had been explicitly designed on, for, & with Nvidia's RTX GPU's, and thus its RT hardware. Since the RDNA 2 based next-gen consoles arrived though we are seeing more & MORE games w/ RT optimized for RDNA 2 instead (games like Dirt 5, Godfall, & Far Cry 6 for example), which MASSIVELY closes the RT performance gap with Nvidia (& in more & more titles like the prev. mentioned FC6, basically completely, actually)

Well, you can't expect AMD to cover that big of a gap. Like Jay said, the core architecture is nearly identical to those in consoles. So in the next few years, games will be more optimized for AMD GPUs. AMD just need to get their sh*t together for their software and they are well on their way to the GPU crown.

It's only when I run super recent AAA titles, poorly optimized early access titles, or modded to heck Skyrim that I drop down to 30-40 fps sometimes. I'm running a Ryzen 5 3600 with 24 GB of RAM (I only planned on 26 but there was an extra matching stick laying around) so I'm doing fine spec wise. Monitor and GPU are my next upgrades. I expect to be on this CPU for the next 5 years or so.

@@s1mph0ny More likely that the code is highly optimized for specific hardware/conditions. One way this can happen is if the game tries to make decisions on what code to run to begin with based on the detected hardware, completely disabling some effects (or running different code to render them) on certain hardware. If drivers improve and more optimizations are able to be performed in certain code paths but not others, then as different code paths are chosen - due to different hardware being used - the performance goes up and down erratically because the game's code wasn't updated to account for the driver improvements.
