Ashley, the civil (or revolutionary) war coats would be purchased by re-enactors. If they look shoddy, it's because the goal is to look "period correct." Re-enactment garments are quite pricey and might fetch you a nice profit. You can probably call a shop that specializes in this stuff for more info. Regimental Quartermaster in Gettsburg, PA might be a good resource for you.

I lived near there, & my son went to Medical school in Philly. We would pass there SO many times over an 8 yr period to visit him. My brother lived about 2 miles from there also. The re-enactments are amazing…

the "Union" jacket coats are used by living history reenactors. I cant tell from the video but if they are period correct material (wool) and stitching they can sell for big money. they could also be from a film or museum:). loved watching your reactions!!

@@HustleatHomeMom Hi, my brother in law sent me the link to your video. I worked with living history museums and intepreters for many years. The coats appear to be standard kit for Union soldiers. Rough shape is not considered a negative at all, because hello, realism is what is valued here. These coats would have been damaged in use by actual Civil War soldiers, obviously. As the respondent above states, you need to test the fabric to be sure it's actual 100% wool. Otherwise the coats are worth much less. I can help you get in touch with folks that are still active in the field if you have trouble locating someone to buy them. You can list them on ebay but you'll get much less than their actual value that way. Best to sell thru the living history/reenactor networks to get what they're worth - again, if they are actually wool. The buttons and tape around the collars also need to be authentic reproductions or this will also devalue the item. Best wishes, Susannah Eanes (you can google me and find my Facebook page).

Civil war jackets. I am not an Authenticator but things to look to be on lookout for would be: jacket is size. Are they smaller in stature? Men were typically smaller in stature at that time. I can see from lighting in video that the dye of the coat is not uniform, so it could be older handmade fabric. Stitching: are they hand stitched. Definitely get the buttons authenticated. They could be worth more than you think.

You also have to take the entire lot into account. Everything in the box was high quality there were no obvious fakes so I would have no problem listing everything as authentic. You must have got a lot going to a high end store like Saks or Bloomingdale’s. Good score!!

I want to buy a pallet or two of these items just to have gifts for my family. This is so fasinating and I have raised my kids to be LABEL CONCIOUS (my mistake) so they would be thrilled to receive these items. People are asked to declare their shopping when traveling, and some don’t declare to avoid paying taxes or penalties. They are then given the choice to pay the fees/duty or give up the items.
